San Francisco Unified Reopens Campuses With COVID-19 Guidelines in Place – NBC Bay Space

The San Francisco Unified School District reopened campus on Monday for the beginning of the 2021-22 school year with applicable COVID-19 protocols.

Approximately 50,000 students and 10,000 teachers and staff were back for in-person lessons after more than a year of mostly virtual lessons.

The return to school came with an entirely different look due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Some of the health protocols included the following:

• All employees must be fully vaccinated or have weekly tests by September 7; the district is considering a vaccination mandate for students aged 12 and over.
• Students must self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms every day and wear a mask at all times.
• All classrooms will be equipped with air purifiers.

Although some were nervous about returning, there was also some excitement.

“The most exciting time,” said kindergarten teacher Lauren Goss. “We are happy to have them and love that they are excited to learn and families are ready to rejoin the community and help the students.”

The Mayor of San Francisco, London Breed, expressed excitement at the students’ return to the classroom, stressing that “It is important that children also have the ability to socialize, be with and in one another with other children To learn classrooms, “she said,” what do we? don’t want to do is that their mental health continues to decline. “

San Francisco Unified was just one of the few school districts in the Bay Area that resumed face-to-face classes on Monday. Others were West Contra Costa Unified, Berkeley Unified, Dublin Unified, and Vallejo Unified. It was also move-in day at UC Berkeley.

For parents in San Francisco who were still concerned about COVID-19 or the Delta variant and weren’t quite ready to get their kids back to the classroom, the district still offered an online learning option. These students would still have the option to return to campus when they are ready.
