A computer programmer was found dead in the attic of his California home after mysteriously disappearing for a month, his family said Monday.

The body of 50-year-old Christopher Woitel was in the attic of his apartment in San Francisco at the weekend, a representative of the San Francisco Police Department said Oxygen.com by email on Wednesday morning.

“The SFPD SVU [Special Victims Unit] are investigating the incident, ”they explained. “The cause of death is pending until the medical examiner’s autopsy is completed.”

Woitel was reported missing by his mother on January 13, police wrote in an earlier article Press release. He and his mother last spoke on January 9th and had not been heard from him since. Surveillance videos from his home showed him entering on Jan. 8, said Scott Williams, a private investigator hired by Woitel’s family SF Gate. But there were no recordings of him leaving his apartment afterwards.

“My gut feeling is that something bad has happened,” said Lara haben, Woitel’s sister. said the San Francisco Outlet Mission Local.

Woitel’s family described him to that San Francisco Examiner as a generous man known for helping those in need. In fact, he was known for regularly inviting homeless people to stay in his apartment.

Williams told SF Gate that he managed to track down the last known person to stay with Woitel, a man who now lives in a nearby tent camp. According to the private detective, the man is said to have been found in possession of Woitel’s cell phone.

Williams told the outlet that the man said he had “mental abilities” and that he believed Woitel was “shot in the head and wrapped in plastic before his body was thrown into the water at the end of Mariposa Street in San Francisco . ”

Before Woitel’s disappearance, he began acting uncharacteristic and paranoid, his family members said Mission Local. They found that he was expressing his concern after January Riot attempt at the Capitol and told them he heard explosions and felt unsafe.

Just hours before he disappeared, Woitel told his sister that he could hear a “man on a loudspeaker” outside ordering people to “come out now.”
