The Democratic Party is taking hope from Americans with the coronavirus lockdown, Fox News employee Burgess Owens told The Ingraham Angle shortly after his speech on Wednesday evening at the Republican National Convention.

Retired NFL player and Republican candidate for Utah’s 4th Congressional District criticized the Democratic leadership for closing down businesses and sports.

LAURA INGRAHAM: RNCs “POSITIVE, UPBEAT MESSAGES” MAY END “A BAD DAY FOR THE DEMOCRATS”

“What the Democratic Party is basically doing is taking away anything that gives us hope and excitement,” Owens said. “They really are a grumpy, dark, depressed party, and on the other side of the coin, we’re optimistic, we’re easy. We say let’s go out and make things happen. Let’s find out.”

In his RNC speech, Owens shared that he lost everything after his Super Bowl championship with the Oakland Raiders and moved his family of six to a one-room apartment in Brooklyn, where he took a daytime job as a chimney sweep and a security guard at night.

EX NFL PLAYER JACK BREWER ‘FED UP’ WITH MEDIA CALLING TRUMP A RACIST

“We have business owners out there, we have this mentality that if we just allow them to let us go and do what we do best, and that, we’ll find ways to work around anything, including this virus, to work around it is finding a way to win, “he told host Laura Ingraham, who described his remarks as” electrifying “.

Former security for the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders said there was “no question” the Democrats are doing everything possible to impede freedom.

“Football, the flag, the national anthem, it all has to do with moving forward or keeping things depressed and down,” he said.

While some in the NFL are canceling practice and others are boycotting NBA games over race rioting following Jacob Blake’s shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Owens said the organizations will lose fans like him.

MP-Elect Burgess Owens, a former Super Bowl champion who went broke after the NFL, comes to Congress with a nine-word message to inspire others: “If I can, you can.”

Owens, 69, turned Utah’s 4th Republican Congressional District over in one of the most competitive races in the House of 2020.

He joins an incredibly diverse team of newbies that he has compared to Super Bowl All-Stars.

Together, the new GOP lawmakers will deliver a proud, positive message of chance and second chance, contrary to the “dark” vision of the Democrats of America, he said.

“The Republican Conservative team is all about hope, freedom, opportunity and looking inside-out, not outside-in,” Owens told Fox News in a recent interview during the Congressional Orientation. “On the other hand, it’s all about division.” . It shares with color, with gender, with wealth. “

Owens called out the leaders of the Democratic Party, including the “elite class” who lived the American dream, but believes it is impossible for others to achieve.

NYC REP.-ELECT NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS SAYS AOC’s growing influence in New York City politics must stop

“These guys live the life of luxury. The NAACP, the Black Caucus [and] Barack Obama. Many of them are millionaires and then tell the rest of us how this country doesn’t work, “Owens said.

Owens, who received a Super Bowl ring in 1981, moved his family from a Long Island house with a pool and luxury cars to a one-bedroom Brooklyn apartment after going through tough financial times after his football career with the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders was advised.

Owens says the GOP offers an optimistic message for those grappling with failure, while the Democratic Party perpetuates the sacrifice.

“As someone who came out of the NFL and lost it all and was a chimney sweep for a few months, a security guard at night. If I can, you can do it,” Owens said. “That is the difference between the conservative message and those who are in the realm of the socialists and Marxists. They want to keep you hopeless so that they can get the power and the advantage that you don’t believe in yourself.”

Owens will join the two elected members of the Black GOP House, Byron Donalds of Florida.

BYRON DONALDS, NEW FLORIDA CONGRESS MAN, SAYS TRUMPS ‘SWAG’ HAD HIM BLACK VOTES

Owens spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention (RNC) in support of President Trump and discussed his family’s roots in slavery.

Owens said his great-great-grandfather Silas Burgess came to America tied up in the belly of a slave ship. It was sold to Burgess Plantation on an auction block in Charleston, SC. A young Burgess managed to escape slavery by using the subway and grew up a landowner and leader in his West Texas community, starting a black church and elementary school.

Generations later, Burgess Owens was born in Columbus, Ohio and named after his first American ancestor. His father ended up in Ohio to earn his doctorate. From Ohio state in 1950 after being rejected from Texas colleges because of his skin color. The family moved to Tallahassee, where his father was a professor of agriculture at Florida A&M, a historically black university.

Growing up in the days of Jim Crow and the Ku Klux Klan, Owens said he hadn’t interacted with white Americans until he was 16. Despite the segregation, Owens likes to talk about how his black neighborhood in Tallahassee gained respect for his entrepreneurship in the 1960s by building a proud middle class and business community. He links the decline of certain black cities to democratic leadership, lack of faith and black men who fail to “man” and marry the mothers of their children.

“When I was growing up, 70% believed and cared about the family,” Owens said. “We now almost 80% of the opinion that having children and not taking care of them is no big deal.”

TEXAS REP.-ELECT BETH VAN DUYNE SAYS OBAMACARE WAS ONE OF THE BIGGEST LIES IN HISTORY

Owens’ debut in Congress came in 2019 when he testified before a house committee against reparations for descendants of slaves. He said his ancestors were ashamed of the proliferation of sacrifice in their proud race.

“I’m so against anyone who portrays this generation that has done so much to raise such a large group of children that they are seen as hopeless and unhappy,” Owens said. “You would be dejected and disgusted to be seen as the downtrodden when we were victorious.”

Owens feels no support for Black Lives Matter (BLM), the activist group that rose to prominence this year after the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in Minneapolis police custody on May 25. Owens called out those who stirred up and burned cities in the name of racial justice.

“Whether it’s Antifa, a terrorist group, or BLM, a terrorist group, I’ll tell you one thing they have in common with the KKK: They are cowards and bullies,” said Owens. “They’re hiding their face. They go out every night. They do it in gangs. Your goal is to destroy things, intimidate people, hurt people, and do all the things that are totally against the American way. “

Owens made a comeback as a sales rep for about 25 years after the NFL, first with WordPerfect and ending with Motorola, he said.

In recent years, Owens has been an outspoken critic of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. He has written two books: “Why I Stand: From Freedom to the Death Fields of Socialism” and “Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whimpers, Weenies and Wimps”.

ILLINOIS REP.-ELECT MARIE NEWMAN rejects SOCIALISM TAG; SAYS GOP TO ‘GO OVER IT’

Owens converted in 1983 through a relationship with a Mormon Raiders teammate of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He speaks of faith as a unifying force to recognize the skin color of the past.

“We become less racist the more faithful we are,” said Owens.

Owens raised his children on the East Coast in the LDS faith, and when it was time for college he encouraged them all to start at least in Utah to be with others with like-minded values.

His children followed the advice and stayed in Utah. Owens also moved there in 2013 and started a nonprofit to help detainees make the transition to life after release.

Now all six of his children and 15 grandchildren live in Utah’s 4th Congressional District, which he will represent in Washington.

“There is currently no district in human history that is more important to me than District 4,” said Owens.

Editor’s Note: To read the final argument by Rep. Ben McAdams, Democratic nominee for Utah’s 4th Congressional District, click here.

My family traces our American roots back to the days of slavery.

My parents left Texas to escape Jim Crow’s laws that restricted education for black Americans.

I grew up in the deep south in the turbulent 1960s.

Today I am running for Congress to represent Utah. What a difference a generation makes in this great country. My family’s story can only occur in America. Through family, education, faith, success and failure, the possibilities offered to each of us are endless.

I am living proof.

Throughout my life, I have overcome challenges that sunk those around me. In 1969, I was the third black American to offer the University of Miami a soccer scholarship, a fact that is unthinkable from today’s perspective. But when I went to college and got a degree in biology / chemistry, it was groundbreaking. Football gave me an education, a career in the NFL, and a Super Bowl ring.

Football taught me that success and failure go hand in hand. When you are at your peak, the next game can cause you to fall back to earth. These lessons continue to drive me to this day and prepare me for a life after football.

After 10 seasons, I left the NFL. A few years before my retirement, I had started a company that I believed would give me the financial resources and corporate network to quickly pursue the ultimate mission of my life: the downward trend of the once proud to change community in which I grew up.

It would take me another 35 years to begin this mission. During the decades of preparation, I have had several opportunities to personally experience the blessings of a new beginning. I would go through two chapters of bankruptcy and then work my way back to the middle class. During this time I was also a survivor of prostate cancer.

Life’s most important lessons were learned in these difficult chapters. Among them was: As long as we are ready to make our contribution, our nation has an unlimited supply of second chances in its DNA. Seven years after my retirement from the NFL and business failure, I experienced a long summer working a variety of jobs necessary to support my family and begin my journey out of poverty. That included a day job as a chimney sweep followed by a midnight shift as a security guard.

My journey back into the ranks of the American middle class has been humble. But what a great country we live in – a country that rewards the risk takers and allows us to get up again when we are knocked down.

My life story is now the subject of multi-million dollar attack reports from dark money organizations. I find it difficult to understand someone who would bless and accept such tactics. I find it even more difficult to understand why they would attack the American dream.

This brand of politics of personal destruction is disgusting and has been vigorously rejected by Utah voters in the past. I am confident that it will be rejected again in November. After all, we Utahns know what it is like to be attacked for who we are.

Instead of focusing on these increasing negative and gross misrepresentations in my recording, I would like to focus on what my missteps led to my founding: Second Chance 4 Youth, a community-based program to give young people who have been imprisoned a second chance her American dream just like me.

I know the second chances and many Utahns too. We know that our mistakes do not condemn us. They don’t define us, but can drive us to great heights. Washington politicians focused on maintaining their own power really do not share Utahn’s shared belief in America’s redemption story. You will spend millions more to keep me and people like me from getting to Congress where I will fight for all Utahns, especially those in need of a hopeful second chance at the American dream.

Negativity never works in Utah. Our positive vision of what is possible in America will win in November. Our work is too important, our faith is too strong, and we deserve our values to be represented in Congress.

Burgess Owens is the Republican candidate for Utah’s 4th Congressional District.

Washington • Burgess Owens’ conversion to the Republican Party came after a decade of professional football as he watched Ronald Reagan rise and longed to start his own business.

“I’ve always been a conservative, and I’ve realized that,” says Owens. “I grew up conservative, but I voted as a Democrat because we’d talk [about how] that was the party in our favor. “

He left the NFL a “cocky liberal” but years later he said, “I found myself a very humble and appreciative Conservative.”

Owens, 68, is now the Republican candidate in Utah’s 4th Congressional District after beating three candidates in last week’s primary. He is hoping to topple Rep. Ben McAdams, a new Democrat, in the November elections. This race is expected to be one of the most competitive in the nation. And it puts McAdams, who has long been involved in Utah politics, against Burgess, who is new to the campaign.

Ohio-born, Florida-educated Owens says his life was shaped by a black man who grew up in the deep south – how his father’s ambition to overcome obstacles helped strengthen his character. And how he believes that a strong work ethic and conservative politics are more effective than government handouts that didn’t help people who look like him.

“I happen to be attracted to a party that believes in freedom – No. 1,” says Burgess, “and believes that each of us can succeed if we pay the price for it.

“So what we’re seeing is that more and more black Americans are literally leaving the Democratic plantation,” added Burgess. “I’ve never seen anything like this because of the President [Donald] Trump because the success he has brought to the black community is the lowest unemployment in our country’s history for blacks, Hispanics, Asians, women and veterans. “

That was before the coronavirus pandemic broke out, of course, and the decline in employment for each category.

Owens is a full supporter of Trump – he put on a red Make America Great Again cap in a protest against Blue Lives Matter on June 20 – for saying the president will “do the job”.

“I support every person, every president who will fight for the American way,” says Owens. “By the way, I have no problem with his tweets. … I look at it very simply. If the tweets drive the nuts, it makes me happy. “

And he got Trump’s confirmation on Friday in one of those tweets. Trump wrote, “As a Super Bowl champion, Burgess knows how to WIN.”

In response, Burgess tweeted, “From a segregated childhood to being approved by the president. It is an honor to live in a country that made this possible. “

It is an honor to have the support of the President of the United States. From a segregated childhood to being approved by the president. It is an honor to live in a country that made this possible. Many thanks to @realDonaldTrump https://t.co/XU7V6pn1av

– Burgess Owens (@BurgessOwens) July 3, 2020

Owens says his campaign will focus on “prioritizing God, country, family first,” and he has election words for democratic leaders that he says have gone so far as to be Marxists and socialists.

“This will result in a very simple decision this time around in 2020,” says Owens. “Do we keep our country, our culture, our way of life? Rule of law, security? Or go the path we now see on the streets of the city centers: chaos, destruction, damage, death, bullying. “

The GOP contender, who still wears his Super Bowl championship ring, was far from his southern roots to find his home in the GOP, Latter-day Saints Church of Jesus Christ and Utah.

From the NFL to WordPerfect

Owens was born in Columbus, Ohio, where his father had relocated to get a degree he couldn’t get due to the then Jim Crow laws in Texas. The family later moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where his father was a college professor.

Owens, who had spent some time in college labs over the summer, eventually sought a degree in biology from the University of Miami, where he was only the third black student to receive a scholarship. Playing soccer was an added bonus, he says, but education came first.

However, football became a livelihood after Owens was drafted by the New York Jets in the first round of the 1973 NFL draft. For safety reasons, he played 10 seasons, including as part of the Oakland Raiders 1980 team that won the Super Bowl.

Towards the end of his professional career, Owens said he converted to Latter-day Saints because of some teammates who shared the faith.

Playing pro didn’t make him as much money as he had hoped, and a business he started with his brother selling electronic equipment to keep track of business expenses failed and caused his first bankruptcy.

He later moved to a one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn, NY with his children and worked as a chimney sweep by day and a security guard by night.

“That was a very humbling moment,” says Owens. “It was also a very important moment in my life, standing in the basement apartment at the end of the long day, looking outside and just thinking that I knew this wouldn’t be the way because I believe in the American Second chance promise. “

Soon after, a friend told Owens about a job at WordPerfect, a fast-growing computer software company based in Utah. The sales job was in Philadelphia and Owens answered and moved.

But he had a thing for Utah.

“I made a promise with all of my children [they] I could see any college in the country while they were in their freshman year in Utah, “says Owens,” because I wanted them to have a nice soft landing. “

Eventually Owens moved west and settled in Draper.

He founded Second Chance 4 Youth, a nonprofit dedicated to helping children in trouble “start a new chapter and live their American dream,” and embraced the four principles of Owens’s campaign: head, heart, hand, and home .

Owens has also authored several books, including “Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whimpers, Weenies and Wimps” and his most recent book “Why I Stand: From Freedom to Socialism’s Death Fields”.

Documents filed with the House indicate that Owens receives $ 70,000 a year from his foundation, plus income from his books and lectures. A December filing showed Owens with up to $ 5 million owed to the IRS. However, this was changed to $ 6,500 in an addendum published in January. Owens says the original filing was a “big mistake” and most of the IRS debt has now been paid off.

Owens’ rhetoric fits the books, and he doesn’t shy away from the threat he sees from Democrats. He says Americans must do what they can to take our country back from the left.

Owens has never met McAdams.

“I hear he’s a really nice guy,” says Owens. “And I don’t doubt that. But it’s not about Ben McAdams. It’s about the party he authorizes. “

Owens questions Congressman’s votes for the agenda of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, McAdams support for the Trump indictment and Pelosi ideology, and Liberal MP Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whom Owens describes as “very anti-American”.

In contrast, the Democratic Campaigns Committee notes Owens’ support for Trump, his plan to jettison the Department of Education, and his opposition to protecting the Affordable Care Act on pre-existing terms. The DCCC also notes that while McAdams fought against resumption of nuclear testing in the West, Owens has expressed support.

“Its out-of-the-mainstream agenda does not suit moderate voters in Utah,” the DCCC said in a memo following Owens’ primary victory.

The arguments preview the general campaign messages Utahns is likely to see, a flurry of Democrats tying Owens to Trump and Republicans tying McAdams to Pelosi. Right now, political handicappers say McAdams is a small favorite. Cook Political Report says the normally conservative 4th district “leans democratically”.

Owens says he can win because his focus is “God, country, family first” – things that all 4th district voters believe in.

“It all comes down to what I really stand for,” he said. “This is something that resonates with Republicans, Independents and Democrats who take the time to listen to it and just think about their future.”
