SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) – As crime and violence continue to make national headlines in the Bay Area, San Francisco police said they continue to make arrests and investigate armed robbery and car break-ins.

The department said that due to the organization behind these crimes, it takes time to track down and locate suspects.

CONTINUE READING: COVID: High Vaccine Demand, Adds Staff to San Mateo Clinic

“We’re out here doing these operations, doing this investigation, we’re putting together good cases, we’re making good arrests, and we’re going to keep doing that,” said Officer Adam Lobsinger, a public intelligence officer for the San Francisco Police Department . “We will continue to make arrests and take cases to the prosecutor’s offices.”

Police say these crimes must be taken seriously as the stolen property charge only rudiments the characteristics of these cases.

Suspects have been found with guns and may pose a threat to the public. The division’s investigation into these crimes revealed ghost weapons and suspicious vehicles that were chasing them long before they were arrested. Last week, five suspects were detained for both car break-ins and armed robbery, including a youth.

“It’s up to the police to make arrests, and if the police make arrests, it’s up to me to hold them accountable,” said San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin. “That’s exactly what I’m doing.”

Union Square has changed since a mass robbery last month. The police remain in the area weeks later with a heavy presence.

“I feel a lot safer walking around and seeing cops everywhere,” said Kristi Lee, a Christmas shopper in Union Square on Monday. “Before it felt like free for everyone and now we’re taking it over.”

Other visitors to the shopping district were uncomfortable in the city and were surprised that the police had made progress in their investigation.

“Unless I have to get something, I don’t really walk around,” said James Scott. “Well, if they make arrests, I’m sure I haven’t heard of them.”

CONTINUE READING: Company once owned by Pharma Bro Shkreli pays $ 40 million to resolve price gouging lawsuit

Lobsinger said they are hearing the public’s concerns and are working as a police agency to change that perception. More arrests are expected this week.

“There is a certain amount of organization, there is a certain amount of planning, we are organized, we are planning, we are making these arrests, we are going to continue these arrests,” he said on Monday.

Boudin attended a rally of supporters amid efforts to recall him as the DA moves forward. Following the event, he faced media inquiries about the criticism that remained of his approach to these crimes. Boudin declined, saying he had brought more charges than the current Alameda County attorney or his predecessor in San Francisco, compared to their 2018 and 2019 terms.

“The greatest deterrent to committing a crime is knowing that you will be arrested. We need people who come to San Francisco to commit a crime to know without a doubt that if they commit a crime here, they will be arrested, ”Boudin said.

KPIX 5 explicitly asked him if he believed that he was a DA. does everything he can

“This is not a San Francisco problem, this is a problem we see all over the country,” he said.

Boudin said the guilt attributed to him has to do with pre-term politics. He said courts take two years to process cases and he has not served that long. Boudin argued that it would take three years to review the outcome of the cases under his supervision. He said that while the problem is not specific to San Francisco, he is working with other elected officials and law enforcement agencies to fight this organized crime with a regional response.

In the meantime, police are encouraging local residents to report any crimes, as individual incidents could later be linked to a major operation that they are already investigating.

MORE NEWS: Oakland City Council votes to increase the number of police officers

“We are everywhere, we are everywhere in the city and we want people to feel safe here,” said Lobsinger. “We want people to shop here and we want to feel welcome in this city.”

PALO ALTO (KPIX) – While Bay Area law enforcement continues to investigate numerous high-profile retail break-ins, detectives from two departments about 50 miles apart appear to have found links between two of the incidents.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, a group of around 40 people smashed the windshield and broke into The RealReal in Larkspur, according to Central Marin police. The suspects were able to get into the consignment store, where they stole goods worth around $ 250,000.

Later on Sunday, shortly after 11:15 p.m., a group of around 30-40 people in around 20 vehicles attempted to break into the RealReal in downtown Palo Alto, according to Palo Alto police. A security guard reported the incident and the suspects left after breaking the front door of the store.

TIED TOGETHER: Smash-and-grab mob foiled in Palo Alto

The officers later located a vehicle and arrested two inmates. Inside the vehicle, they found at least $ 15,000 worth of stolen goods from the break-in of The RealReal store in Larkspur.

Keyonnie Jones, 20, from Richmond and Imani Barnes, 21, from Vallejo were arrested according to Palo Alto police.

Both departments are now working together to see if there are any links between the people involved in the crimes in their cities and those who committed similar crimes in other cities across the Bay Area.

“They had problems in San Francisco, they had Walnut Creek, Contra Costa, they had here,” said John Woodmansee, who lives in Palo Alto. “Of course gangs move around in the Bay Area.”

Many Bay Area locals are aware of the recent break-ins in their neighborhood and other parts of the Bay Area.

Social media users wondered if the San Francisco Chronicle had published satire when the point of sale asked if residents should “tolerate” break-ins as part of their daily lives, given a recent surge in crime.

San Francisco has seen an increase in shootings, assaults, shoplifting, car break-ins, and more in the past few months. For example, the city’s Central District saw car break-ins increased by 753% from May 2020 to May 2021. More than 150 families were so scared that they even hired private security services to protect their property.

The break-in rate is particularly worrying. As of October 31, that year, the San Francisco Police Department had received reports of 810 break-ins or attempted break-ins in the Mission District Police Department jurisdiction, up 13% over the last year, according to the Chronicle.

Crime has apparently become so commonplace in the city that the Chronicle asked readers if residents should start “tolerating” break-ins.

“Residents and city guides are looking for answers: Should they tolerate break-ins as part of city life and focus on barricading houses? Should repeat offenders be given rehabilitation services or detained so that they cannot commit further crime?” tweeted the point of sale.

The play notes that the city is in an “intermediate position” as it seeks to drive criminal justice reform while it “debates how to manage the property crime rate, which has been among the highest in the country for years” . While some local residents are “appalled” by the crime, others have learned to “reluctantly accept this element of city life”.

Social media users shook their heads at this, and some asked, “What the hell is going on” in the Golden City.

Others suggested that residents take their safety into their own hands.

City police reportedly struggled to maintain order while grappling with a shortage of hundreds of officers. Many law enforcement officials have decided to take early retirement due to an increase in violent crime and to disempower the police following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in the summer of 2020. His death sparked a wave of violent civil unrest and protests in major cities across the United States

Some law enforcement agencies, including the San Francisco Police Officers Association, have also blamed the liberal policies of Mayor London Breed and District Attorney Chesa Boudin for the carnage.

“This brazen criminal behavior is endured every day by the San Franciscans and is the direct result of the criminal-first agenda of District Attorney Chesa Boudin and his facilitators,” SFPOA President Tony Montoya said in a June statement.

via Trevor Gernon, the 4-year-old boy’s father, who was kidnapped from his bed and dumped dead on a Dallas street, says he will never forgive himself for leaving his son and twin brother with a friend while he was taking the city down Skipping a cloud of legal troubles, Trevor Gernon posted a recorded statement on his sister’s YouTube account apologizing for not looking after his son Cash and asking the public not to be too harsh on him. When he moved to Dallas, he was pulling a Monica Sherrod from an old friend, and when he returned to Houston “after an unsuccessful job search, among other things,” he decided they would be better off with her. “I felt it was in the boys’ best interests not to disturb their routine.” He said about Cash and his brother Carter, who was not injured and is now with his mother. “They were comfortable, they were with other children, and it seemed that Monica was a trustworthy person. This decision, which I made with the best of intentions, has produced a terrible result. “On May 15th, an intruder was caught by a baby monitor camera sneaking into Cash and Carter’s bedroom at Sherrod’s and lifting the boy who was still asleep from his bed. Two hours later, a passer-by found the child’s body on the street. The police said he was stabbed. 18-year-old Darriynn Brown, who has some nebulous relationships with Sherrod’s family, has been charged with kidnapping and burglary, but police are waiting for forensic test results to make a decision on murder charges. Investigators have not released a motif, and Brown’s mother has said she thinks her son is being framed. Sherrod told reporters Gernon left town after being ordered into rehab by a court. CrimeOnline received court records showing several pending charges against Gernon in Harris County. Referring to his legal troubles, Geron said on the tap: “I have to fear for my freedom as the goal of some is to put me in jail instead of mourning the loss of my little boy. “He did not disclose his location or his legal status. Sometimes he cried and took responsibility for not protecting the twins.” I paid the highest and most painful price for my poor judgment and I have to live with this devastation every day, ” He said, “I will never forgive myself. If I could, I would go back and do things differently. This is a nightmare that won’t go away when I open my eyes in the morning. We just don’t understand how it makes you so smart and happy.” Addressing the boys’ mother, Melinda Seagroves added, “I am so sorry I did not protect him. That is my job as his father and I have not been able to do it.” , and I’m sorry. ”As reported by The Daily Beast, Gernon has made a number of arrests over the years and spent 68 days in jail for an attack during 2018 on his father a dispute over a credit card bill. The Strange New Twist in the Case of 4-year-old Cash Gernon after his drug abuse charge last November, he failed to appear for a hearing on March 29, 2021, forfeiting a $ 10,000 bond payment. There is now an open arrest warrant against him. Johnny Flanagan, whose son gave Gernon a job in his business until they had an argument, told The Daily Beast, “He’s one of those guys who goes any way, you know, and he’s going to do good for a few months and then doing bad things for several months and you know, just get up and leave. “In the recording, Gernon asked the public opinion court for mercy.” I can hardly get through a day that doesn’t take me to a dark place, “he said. “I hope you all could understand how fragile we all are and how quickly things can turn upside down …” I would hope that we can all work together and band together to make sure Cash gets justice he deserves.
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The numbers are staggering and San Francisco residents are now sounding the alarm over the rising number of brazen break-ins in the city.

A recent example is a video posted on Nextdoor given to KPIX 5 by a homeowner in the Cow Hollow neighborhood. It shows a man attempting to break into a house at 1:52 am on August 22nd, shattering a sense of security.

CONTINUE READING: Amber Alert: Oakland Police are looking for a kidnapped 2 year old boy

The homeowner didn’t want his identity to be revealed, but others say these attempted break-ins were widespread.

“Our neighbor was broken into and had had another break-in a month earlier,” said Ginny Fang, who lives in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco.

A spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department said they have received more reports of garage break-ins lately.

“We are doing everything we can to increase patrols and ultimately arrest those who commit these crimes,” said SFPD officer Robert Rueca.

CONTINUE READING: Fire Sweeps Through Home in South San Jose; 1 person badly burned, dog killed

Fang said thieves stole four of her family’s bicycles by breaking them and walking in a few weeks ago.

“You’re taking a walk around the neighborhood and you see so many holes just punched in garages and wires, the same wire we hooked up with. You see them lying around in the street,” said Fang.

Another victim, whose home was broken into in late August, posted a photo to KPIX 5 after gathering information about more than 50 incidents from other neighbors.

In San Francisco, burglaries were up 42% in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2019. In the northern district, which includes Pacific Heights, Marina, North Beach and Cow Hollow, the figure is 59%. 79% in Mission and 50% in Richmond.

“It’s so hard, the destabilizing feeling, and so much is already happening in the world and even the basic sanctity of your home,” said Fang.

The surge in home break-ins in San Francisco has raised concerns among residents about how to stay safe or prevent their homes from being broken into. However, there are myriad steps residents can take to protect their homes.

Police and local residents suspect the coronavirus pandemic may be a reason for the spike in break-ins, as car break-ins have declined after housing orders and travel restrictions cleared the streets of tourists last March – frequent targets of break-ins. It is also difficult to arrest burglar suspects without physical evidence or eyewitnesses, police said.

In hard-hit San Francisco neighborhoods such as the Richmond and Marina neighborhoods, some residents have adopted a siege mentality and have come together to help each other secure their homes and garages.

Furlishous Wyatt, a security services manager at San Francisco SAFE, said most home break-ins can be categorized into one of three different scenarios, depending on whether a residence is occupied and whether a burglar is facing the resident.

San Francisco SAFE is a non-profit organization originally founded in 1976 as a project by the San Francisco Police Department. The organization provides crime prevention, education and public safety services.

Prior to the pandemic, Wyatt said there were frequent break-ins between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. during the day while residents were at work. The most recent break-ins have occurred during the night, although break-ins can still occur during the day.

According to Wyatt, these are the three types of home break-ins and how to stay safe:

When a burglar breaks into an unoccupied apartment:

• All doors leading into the house should be of strong, solid construction

• Glass windows that are within 40 inches of a door and its latch should be break-in resistant

• If you have a letter slot on your door, cover the slot from the inside so people cannot look directly into the house

• Wyatt recommends a 180-degree wide-angle door viewer and security camera

• Add extra locks to the external gates / entrance doors

• Secure all windows, even if they are above the floor

• Make sure you have adequate lighting; B. constant night lighting, supplemented by motion-sensitive lighting

• Always lock your bathroom window

• Secure skylights

• Make sure your address number is clearly visible so rescue workers can easily find your home

• Cut any bushes or trees blocking windows

• Use blinds throughout the house

• Take stock of your belongings with photos or videos

• Attend the local police gathering to give your home a face and meet your neighbors

• Have a trusted neighbor to check on your home when you are on vacation

If a burglar breaks into the garage while the house is occupied:

• Do not leave the garage door open when you are not there

• Add additional locking devices to the garage door

• Cover the garage door button

• Make sure the garage door is as strong as any other exterior door

• Report if anything has been stolen from your garage, regardless of the size of the property

When a burglar breaks into an occupied house and confronts the residents – – also known as a hot slump

• Create a “safe haven”, also known as a panic room with a landline phone. This can be a bedroom or a bathroom

• Set up an alarm system
