HAYWARD (CBS SF / BCN) – A person is dead Thursday morning after colliding with a Capitol Corridor train in the Hayward train station area, an agency spokeswoman said.

Capitol Corridor reported the problem shortly before 7:10 am on the 524 train, which runs from San Jose to Sacramento.
Spokeswoman Karen Bakar confirmed the death but had no further details about the person’s death.

All passengers on the train were switched to BART and the train stopped at Hayward station for more than three hours. At about 10:20 a.m. train 524 left again, said Bakar.

Capitol Corridor stated on Twitter that the delay was due to a so-called “intruder incident”. A second tweet said that another train, train 523, stopped at Oakland Coliseum station because of the delays with train 524.

Finally, train 523 was almost an hour late. Just after 9 a.m., the Capitol Corridor said that train 524 was still stopping at Hayward Station because of the incident.

The Valencia Corridor in San Francisco lights up

The newly installed lights are only temporary and are intended to help bring customers back to the region. Amber Lee from KTVU reports.

SAN FRANCISCO – – For the first time in its history, the Valencia corridor in San Francisco is illuminated.

The lights are temporary and are meant to help bring customers back to the area.

For the small businesses, the lights are a symbol of leaving the pandemic behind.

Valencia Street was known for its liveliness before the pandemic and traders said business was picking up again.

The new lighting on Valencia Street on Friday evening signals a renaissance.

There was a ceremony celebrating the event.

“To show the community that Valencia is back. To spread some joy and love when we really need it, when we come out of this extremely difficult and dark year,” says Manny Yekutiel of Manny’s Cafe. He is also a board member of the Valencia Corridor Merchants Association.

Live music from a mariachi band and a blessing from Sister Roma with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were part of the program, which created a festive atmosphere when the new lighting was introduced.

The lights will be on every night. They are lined up along ten blocks from 14th through 24th streets to attract pedestrian traffic.

A street performer says he recently returned to San Francisco after leaving the state when the pandemic hit.

“Things are coming back, so you know it’s nice,” says Alexander Park, who acts as a flame eater.

Ornot, a bicycle clothing store, reopened for personal shopping on Thursday for the first time since the pandemic.

“Now more and more people are being vaccinated, and it just seemed like the natural time to come back here and open up,” says Matt Quann, owner of Ornot.

Owning a small business was

Romy Dee-Sell-Lover-Sally’s dream since childhood.

She and her boyfriend signed a five-year deal and held their grand opening last weekend.

The native Bay Area-American said her military service helped her take on the challenge of opening a new business during the pandemic.

“My time in the Navy prepares you for success. You roll with the punches,” says Deselover-Sallie.

And the lights reflect that resilient spirit. A project that, according to the trade association, is entirely financed by donations.

“We have learned from this pandemic if we want to focus on something we can all work together as a unit to tackle something very, very difficult,” says Yekutiel.

The lighting ceremony attracted hundreds of people.

At the moment it is planned to keep the lights on for a couple of months.

Depending on feedback from the community, traders say this can become a permanent fixture.
