Volunteers contribute greatly to the enhanced level of care provided to both our inpatients and outpatients. Each volunteer’s interests and skills are matched with various needs resulting in an enhanced patient-centered care. Each volunteer’s talents are closely matched with one of our many assignments:

Include in your email how you would like to help our Veterans, what special skills you want to use and the days/times of the week you are available to volunteer. Once a position is identified then we provide you the application and explain our process.

All volunteers must have current TB test and complete background checks prior to placement. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

CHICO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Tri Counties Bank announced today, in conjunction with the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco (FHLBank San Francisco), a $200,000 donation to promote Black homeownership as part of the FHLBank San Francisco’s Empowering Black Homeownership matching grant program.

The recently launched program is a key component of Tri Counties Bank and FHLBank San Francisco’s commitment to advancing racial equity in homeownership and narrowing the Black homeownership and wealth gaps. Through this new program, FHLBank San Francisco’s member financial institutions can request dollar-for-dollar matching grants, up to a total matching amount of $125,000, for their donations to approved housing counseling agencies.

“We are fortunate to have FHLBank San Francisco as a partner in our efforts to increase Black homeownership across our footprint,” said Rick Smith, President & CEO of Tri Counties Bank. “There is no better time to kick off this program than in June, both for National Homeownership Month and in appreciation of Juneteenth.”

FHLBank San Francisco matched Tri Counties Bank’s $100,000 donation for a total of $200,000, which will be distributed in $50,000 grants to four Housing Counseling Agencies (HCAs) throughout Tri Counties Bank’s footprint: Greater Sacramento Urban League, Self Help Enterprises, Community Housing Development Corporation, and San Francisco Housing Development Corporation.

Greater Sacramento Urban League (GSUL) has been aiding youths and adults from underrepresented communities throughout Sacramento County for over 50 years, providing comprehensive housing counseling, education, job training and placement opportunities to achieve economic self-reliance.

The organization plans to use their grant from Tri Counties Bank and FHLBank San Francisco to assist with their Housing Counseling Program, which is HUD approved and offered to the public at no cost. The program offers counseling in areas such as homelessness, rental assistance, first-time home buyer, credit and budgeting, and refinancing.

“Sacramento County has the lowest Black home ownership rate in California. Far too many have lost hope in the American dream of home ownership,” said Dwayne Crenshaw, JD, President and CEO of the Greater Sacramento Urban League. “With this critical grant funding, the Greater Sacramento Urban League will strive to restore hope to families we reach by offering them personalized financial planning services to help get their families on a realistic path to actually achieving the dream.”

Self-Help Enterprises (SHE), located in Visalia, California, was founded in 1965 with the mission to work together with low-income families to build and sustain healthy homes and communities. SHE serves eight counties in the San Joaquin Valley: Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus and Tulare counties. Although this area is known as a top agricultural production region, the San Joaquin Valley has among the highest poverty rates in the State of California.

The organization will use the grant to link opportunities to enhance and create outreach campaigns in Black communities to promote the Mutual Self-Help Housing Program. Participants will be served with customized homeownership resources, educational, and home counseling needs. SHE will implement alliances and collaboration strategies with partners to pursue shared goals to raise and strengthen Black homeownership.

The BWI assists with both homebuying education and down payment and/or closing costs. While the program is still in its infancy, the organization has already assisted one homeowner with closing the purchase of a home and three more are already on the way towards homeownership.

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia (WAVY) – Each week, over 40 volunteers work in the THRIVE Peninsula grocery room packing grocery bags for families in need.

However, officials say the facility lacks the necessary HVAC systems to cope with the summer heat.

“The pantry is the largest room in the building and because it houses commercial freezers and refrigerators that generate a lot of heat, it can be very difficult to keep the room cool,” said Angela York, executive director of THRIVE Peninsula. “In fact, the temperature in the pantry can reach 80 degrees in summer. It’s not a good environment for our volunteers who are already working hard. “

Warwick Mechanical Foundation volunteers are expected to work with Damuth Trane to install a new air system on Saturday morning to provide cooler airflow to the pantry.

“We had enough space in our building to serve our customers until the pandemic broke out. Then we received a flood of donations and appeals for help and we ran out of space almost overnight, ”said York.

This new HVAC system completes a six month renovation of the facility. A press release from THRIVE said the renovations were all done by volunteers and donations.

A new kitchenette was added as a “volunteer recognition station” as part of a $ 5,000 grant from Ferguson and a donation from Pompeii. The First United Methodist Church Foundation in Newport News provided an additional $ 5,000 that was used to purchase a new commercial three-door refrigerator.

A 75-year-old Asian woman who was attacked on the street is taking the nearly $ 1 million donated for her medical bills and using it to fight racism, her family says.

After Xiao Zhen Xie was slapped in the face in an unprovoked attack in San Francisco on March 17th, she hit herself back. “He harasses old people,” Xie said in a video that was filmed after the attack by CNN subsidiary KPIX. “So I struck.”

After the attack, Xie suffered from two black eyes, a swollen wrist, and post-traumatic stress disorder that made her too scared to leave her home, according to a GoFundMe page her family set up to raise money for medical bills .

GoFundMe raised more than $ 930,000 within a week of the attack. The original target was $ 50,000.

Now her family says Xie wants the money to go to the Asian American community to fight racism and say the problem is bigger than her, according to the online fundraiser.

The site also says that Xie’s mental and physical health has improved. Now she can open her injured eye and is “in a better mood”.

Anti-Asian attacks are increasing

San Francisco police said a 39-year-old man assaulted an 83-year-old Asian man and was followed by a security guard when he beat Xie.

The suspect was taken to the San Francisco County Jail and was due to appear in court later this month.

After the attack, police said investigators are “working to determine whether bias is a motivating factor”.

San Francisco Police have stepped up patrols in predominantly Asian neighborhoods after “an alarming spike in brazen anti-Asian violence in recent weeks” in the Bay Area, the ministry said.

Anti-Asian attacks have increased dramatically in the United States during the Covid-19 pandemic. Stop AAPI Hate group says it received more than 500 reports of anti-Asian hate incidents in the first two months of 2021.
