OAKLAND (AP) – San Francisco’s manager Gabe Kapler once again went to the right player at the right time.

Pinch-hitter LaMonte Wade Jr. scored in the ninth inning for a two-time homer and helped the Giants Rally for a 6-5 win over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.

Brandon Belt drew a one-out walk against Lou Trivino (5-5) and was replaced by Mike Yastrzemski. Wade followed with his 16th homer, a towering drive to the right on a 1-1 pitch.

“Our offensive could come from behind and put together some really strong at-bats and I just wanted to follow suit and do the same,” said Wade. “(Trivinos) has a lot of good things that move away from you and really get inside you, so just try to push it out of the middle and get your best swing out of it. Fortunately, I managed to do that. “

Trivino said he left the pitch too high for Wade.

“We had to win this game,” said a solemn Trivino. “We had the least one for most of the game and I thought we were on the right track. It hurts a little more. “

Kris Bryant, Brandon Belt and Darin Ruf also homered for San Francisco, who were 5-2 behind after six innings. The major league leaders (79-44) grabbed a two-game slip and stayed 1 1/2 games ahead of the attacking Dodgers for the top spot in NL West.

“One of the reasons I like LaMonte when he shows up on a big bar hit, cold off the bench at a big moment like this, is the way he runs a game,” said Kapler. “He leads the game from the first pitch on. We know he’s dangerous enough to stick the ball in the seats like him. “

Starling Marte doubled twice for Oakland and has continued to climb since the All-Star hiatus. Josh Harrison added an RBI double.

The A’s fell 3 1/2 games behind the Astros in the AL West. Oakland entered the day with a half game lead over the Red Sox for the second wild card.

“If they made mistakes, they took advantage of them,” said A manager Bob Melvin. “We were able to win the game. We did the OK offensive, in any case sooner rather than late. This is a game that we usually pin down. “

Bryant’s two-time homer in front of Sean Manaea reduced the A’s lead to 3-2 in the second round. But Harrison doubled up Matt Olson in the third and Sean Murphy faced Kevin Gausman’s wild pitch in the fourth game.

Belt and Ruf met in seventh place in a row against Andrew Chafin.

“I looked at the scoreboard and saw Belt’s story against Chafin. I think he was 0-16 when he went into that game,” said Kapler. “Then he will have safely laid the next pitch in the seats.”

Tyler Rogers (4-1) retired three thugs for the win. Jake McGee threw ninth place for his 27th parade.

Gausman had another unequal outing. The all-star right-handed had five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings but allowed six hits and five runs, two earned. In seven starts since the break, Gausman has made it through six innings once.

“It was a grind from the first hit,” said Gausman. “The team came huge and picked me up.”

Marte doubled and scored in the first round when the A scored three undeserved runs against Gausman after a throwing error by third base player Wilmer Flores. Marte has hit .382 (50 for 131) since the All-Star break.

RUNNING GAFFE

The Giants left a potential big inning in the eighth inning when Brandon Crawford was kicked out trying to steal third place. Crawford ran off just as Jake Diekman showed up to start his wind-up, but Diekman got out and threw Harrison, who chased Crawford and sent him out to get back in second place. That came after Curt Casali jumped to the pitcher trying to sacrifice the runners.

TRAINER ROOM

Giants: RHP Johnny Cueto (right flexor) threw a bullpen in the Dominican Republic where he was in his family due to a death. “I have a good video of it, looked good,” said Kapler. … 3B Evan Longoria (hand) had an MRI that showed no structural damage. He missed his third game in a row.

A’s: OF Stephen Piscotty was put on the 10-day injury list for a second time this season due to a left wrist sprain. Piscotty was previously out from June 17 through July 3 with the same injury. He had played 12 of 38 games since returning from that stint in the IL. “We’ll see where we go from here, whether it needs surgery or not,” said Melvin. “He got the cortisone injection, he has to do with it all year round. It seems like it has just reached a climax where he needs some rest. ”Seth Brown has been called back by Triple-A Sacramento to take Piscotty’s place. … 3B Matt Chapman was rested.

NEXT

Giants RHP Logan Webb (7-3, 2.92 ERA) has won six straight decisions ahead of the series finale on Sunday. Webb has allowed two earned runs or less in each of its last 11 starts. Athletics RHP Frankie Montas (9-9, 4.04 ERA) allowed two runs in five innings during his only career appearance against San Francisco on June 26.

SAN FRANCISCO – Willie Calhoun hit a groundbreaking victim fly after the Giants entered the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Joey Gallo followed with a triple home run and the Texas Rangers defeated San Francisco 9-5 on Sunday to avoid a threesome. Game sweep.

Shin-Soo Choo also went deep in Texas. Scott Heineman had two hits, including a double with two runs, and Jeff Mathis added an RBI single.

“That’s one thing we couldn’t, we couldn’t take advantage of and finish some of these rallies,” said Rangers manager Chris Woodward. “We got ourselves into a situation late in the game to keep beating them. We could have broken this game wide open with another big goal. We want that to be a criminal offense.”

The Rangers started with points and hits on the final day in the AL before hitting season highs in both against the Giants.

Texas broke the game up with a seventh run in four after San Francisco scored three goals in run six and wiped out a 5-2 lead.

They also got help from San Francisco’s bullpen when reliever Andrew Triggs (0-1) ran three consecutive batters on 14 fields to open the seventh. After Calhoun’s victim had flown 6-5 by Tyler Anderson, Gallo pressed a 0-2 pitch in the right center.

Gallo singled, doubled up, and left.

“To answer with runs, after they pitched a pretty big inning and started getting momentum on their side, once we got those four runs in the seventh you could feel that the game was starting to change,” Gallo said. “It was a huge boost for us.”

Jonathan Hernandez (2-0) retired six batters to win.

Evan Longoria and Chadwick Tromp met San Francisco. Tromp’s was the first of his career, with Hunter Pence tripling to get a season opening 0 for 23 Funk.

“We had really good energy, especially on the offensive side of the ball,” said Giants manager Gabe Kapler. “We showed the ability to come back in a game. That is very encouraging. We showed a certain resilience.”

Choo pulled his second home run of the season over the right field wall at McCovey Cove ahead of Giants starter Jeff Samardzija in the fifth. On Friday, the Rangers lead-off batsman hit an opposing homer in first place of the game.

Texas also had an encouraging foray from the left Kolby Allard on its first start. Allard allowed a run and two hits before coming out after throwing 75 pitch in four innings.

Samardzija gave up five runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings and was the first Giants pitcher to make it through five innings despite having a blister on his pitching hand.

“No excuses,” said Samardzija. “That’s how it works. You have to learn to adapt and make adjustments.”

GIANTS SEND HAMILTON TO METS

The Giants swapped outfielder Billy Hamilton for right-handed Jordan Humphreys for the Mets. Humphreys was immediately admitted to the alternative training position in San Francisco.

Hamilton signed with the giant in the off-season but was not on the team’s opening list.

“We know the importance of having extra bats and extra weapons in the (bullpen) and that only made Hamilton tougher, especially since we went down to a 28-man roster size later this week,” said Chaplain.

ROSTER MOVES

Triggs was retrieved from the Alternate Training Site prior to the game. RHP Jandel Gustave was designated for assignment.

Texas called infielder Anderson Tejeda.

QUOTEABLE

“It will get better. It will improve. I think 2020 should test us all, especially now. It’s just another test that we have to go through.” -Woodward

TRAINING ROOM

Rangers: Woodward hopes 2B Rougned Odor will be available for Tuesday’s game in Oakland. The smell left Saturday’s game with a tightness in the sloping area on his right. . OV Danny Santana was placed on the 10-day injured list with a load on the right forearm. Santana is 1 for 17 and hasn’t played since Tuesday.

Giants: LHP Drew Smyly was placed on the 10-day list of injured with a load on the left index finger. Smyly had seven breakouts in four innings on Saturday before leaving for discomfort in the Finger.

NEXT

Rangers: Texas remains in the Bay Area and starts a three-game series in Oakland on Tuesday. LHP Lance Lynn (1-0, 0.00) starts the opener. Texas won Lynn’s previous two starts that season.

Giants: No starter has been announced for Monday’s game in Colorado.
