NFL Week 9: Raiders shifting on with out Henry Ruggs III

Thu, 04 Nov 2021 19:13:08 +0000

Jon Gruden resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders on October 11 after revelations of emails he wrote a decade ago made it unacceptable for him to continue as the NFL team’s coach.

The Raiders responded by defeating the Denver Broncos on October 17, 34-24 and the Philadelphia Eagles on October 24, 33-22.

POLICE REPORT: HENRY RUGGS III DRIVE 156 MPH BEORE FATAL CRASH

Las Vegas came back from its bye week with news that wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was arrested Tuesday in connection with a pre-dawn traffic accident. When the former Alabama standout first appeared on Wednesday, prosecutors said he drives his Corvette on blood alcohol levels more than double the Nevada legal limit and is 2.5 seconds away from a collision involving a 23-year-old Las Vegas was killed at 156 mph too fast woman.

“They are two completely separate entities,” said Rich Bisaccia, the special team coordinator who was taking over as head coach when Gruden left. “I felt like we carried on from what happened before and we had a chance to play two games and now we have been faced with this situation. Again, as adult men, we all have to react in a certain way. We all forge our identities in life, and certainly in the locker room, by dealing with adversity and dealing with adversity. That’s how life goes. I think you understand. We had discussions about that. …

“There is no blueprint for these things. I think we’re all just leaning on each other in there. We have a lot of other coaches who have a lot of experience. We have players who have been through different things so I think we did a good job communicating and we tried to give our players the best possible resources. “

When he got to court, Ruggs was no longer a member of the Raiders. The team did without him on Tuesday evening.

“I think we have come to this conclusion, and owner Mark (Davis) at the time felt it was best for the organization to do so,” said Bisaccia. “I think there are two separate units. There is Henry Ruggs, the football player who is no longer one of the Raiders, and then Henry Ruggs the person who is sure to go through what they go through and face the consequences for the deeds. “

For Henry Ruggs, the person, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr had a message.

“He needs people who love him now,” said Carr. “He’s probably got a certain kind of himself right now and he needs to be loved, and if no one else does, I’ll do it.”

Footballer Henry Ruggs leads Las Vegas in the 2021 season with 469 and two touchdowns at 24 receptions. In seven games this season, Ruggs had 17 yards more than 13 games as a rookie draft pick for the first round.

Ruggs helped Las Vegas win five of its first seven games, just half a game off the AFC’s best record – and the 6-2 Tennessee Titans lost their meal ticket to Derrick Henry this week due to foot surgery.

The first game of the Raiders without Ruggs takes place on Sunday when Las Vegas visits the New York Giants.

“From a footballing perspective, we’re ready to go,” said Carr on Wednesday. “We had a great practice. We have a lot to do this year, that’s for sure. Lots of guys: ‘What a crazy year.’ I’ve heard that a couple of times. I heard, ‘Gosh,’ you know, like, ‘Man, can we please? Nothing else. ‘ Not for ourselves, but for everyone else, for everyone involved. But in terms of football and competition, we are ready to play football. There is no doubt about that. We know where we are from that point of view, and we know what to do. We know this was the time of year we took a couple of breaks and we can’t let that happen no matter what. …

“Is it fair? No, because I want to have emotions about things. I want to think about things as a person. Football is secondary when something like this happens. We talk about life – many different lives and many different situations. But from a footballing perspective, it is our way of thinking that we’ll be ready to play. That’s for sure. “

The Raiders have three wide receivers on their active list – Bryan Edwards, Zay Jones and Hunter Renfrow. You can also reach up to your practice team to the wide receivers Marcell Ateman, Dillon Stoner, DJ Turner and Javon Wims.

Renfrow leads Las Vegas at receptions with 38, good for 399 yards and two touchdowns. Edwards has caught 18 passes for 346 yards and one touchdown. Jones has six receptions for 115 yards and a TD.

“Zay and our other guys are going to get a lot more opportunities,” said Carr, “and I’m looking forward to them because they work so hard. …

“Roles change quickly in the NFL. And his role has changed along with the role of some other guys. But it still holds true: whatever your role, do it the best you can. It has to be like nothing ever happened. “

Faculty pocket book: Hartford transferring from Division I to Division III

Sat, 08 May 2021 15:00:27 +0000

Hartford players celebrate after defeating UMass Lowell in the championship game of the America East men’s basketball tournament in Hartford, Connecticut on March 13. The school announced that it is dropping its sports teams from Division I to Division III. A consultant report released last month said the move could save the school more than $ 9 million a year. WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford sports fall from Division I to Division III.

The decision comes after the Hartford men’s basketball team won their first America East championship this season and played in the NCAA tournament for the first time, losing to eventual national champions Baylor in the first round.

The University of Maine also plays in America East.

Hartford President Gregory Woodward said the school is “moving to this new model for intercollegiate athletics”.

The discussion about the demotion to Division III has sparked marches on campus led by athletes and a petition from alumni to remain in Division I.

The Board of Regents said Thursday night’s vote came after a year of discussion. A consultant report released last month said the move could save the school more than $ 9 million a year.

The university announced that it would make a formal application to the NCAA for reclassification in January 2022. She plans to stop offering sports scholarships before the 2023-24 school year and hopes to complete the transition by September 1, 2025.

The school joined Division I of Division II in the mid-1980s. It is planned to comply with all current scholarships and coaching contracts.

“The University of Hartford owes so much to the generations of athletes and track and field staff who have contributed immeasurably to our community and are a source of pride for the university,” Woodward said in a statement. “As we migrate to this new model of intercollegiate athletics in the years to come, I am excited about the opportunities we will have to support the success of all of our students, including our student-athletes.”

TEXAS: Linebacker Jake Ehlinger, the younger brother of former Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger, was found dead near campus on Thursday, Austin police said.

The officers found the 20-year-old Ehlinger after answering a call at 12:18 p.m. Police did not disclose how they found him, but said the death is not considered suspicious. No cause of death was released immediately. Jake Ehlinger hasn’t played for the last two seasons after arriving in Austin as a walk-on from Westlake High School.

Sam Ehlinger was an election in the sixth round of the Indianapolis Colts’ NFL draft last week after a college career that included a leading player in Texas. When Sam Ehlinger was drafted, Jake’s face was accidentally shown on the NFL network instead of Sam. “Jake earned all the screen time you can get,” Sam joked with reporters.

Jake’s death is the second tragedy to hit the Ehlinger family. Ross Ehlinger, Sam and Jake’s father, died of an apparent heart attack in 2013 at the age of 46 while participating in a triathlon in San Francisco.

PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE: Kevin Kelley, the Arkansas High School football coach whose teams never sting and always stand on the side, will be the next head coach at Presbyterian College.

A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Thursday evening that the school would sign a deal to hire Kelley. The person spoke on condition of anonymity as the school was not yet ready to make an official announcement. Kelley led the Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas, using his analytical approach to football to nine state titles over 18 seasons. Kelley has gained national attention for his fourth loss strategy and has been sought after by coaches at all levels of football.

The Presbyterian of the pioneer leagues has an FCS season behind him 4-3 in the spring. Last month the school fired coach Tommy Spangler after 10 seasons playing 54-52.

College baseball coaches with UMF bindings are making a name for themselves in Division I programs

Robert Griffin III needs to affix the San Francisco 49ers as Trey Lance’s ‘mentor’

Tue, 04 May 2021 04:54:19 +0000

Former Pro Bowl quarterback Robert Griffin III has been on the news a lot lately. Now it looks like he wants to join the San Francisco 49ers.

Less than a week after San Francisco quarterback Trey Lance made third choice in the 2021 NFL Draft, RGIII is out here fighting for a job on the team.

“To be honest, I don’t think they have a man on the roster who would be better placed than me to look after the child,” said the 31-year-old Griffin on the Bleacher Report Draft Night Show (h / t TMZ Sports).

Before we get into whether Robert Griffin III is a good match for us, there is a specific background here. As San Francisco rose from the 12th pick to 3rd overall, it became clear that the team was looking for an heir that was obvious to current starter Jimmy Garoppolo. At that point, it made sense that the 49ers would act as the Super Bowl quarterback.

Now that the market has subsided a bit, Jimmy GQ could stay in Northern California. Even so, there are still a lot of moving parts here.

Would Robert Griffin III make sense for the San Francisco 49ers?

After his ninth season in the NFL and his third year with the Baltimore Ravens, RGIII is nothing more than a backup at this point in his career. This career began swimming in DC with the Washington Football Team. In 2012 he was selected as number 2 in the overall standings and received the “NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year” award.

Unfortunately, injuries mistreated by Washington’s brass at the time have ruined what was once a promising career. RGIII has made a total of 26 starts in the eight seasons since its rookie campaign.

Then Washington’s offensive coordinator, the current head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Kyle Shanahan, kicked off his former team to treat Griffin’s injuries. Whether this means Shanahan is ready to give RGIII a chance remains to be seen.

What we do know is that the pre-injury iteration of RGIII is somewhat similar to what we saw on tape from the talented Trey Lance. A double threat with a cannon arm and athleticism at the highest level.

The future of Jimmy Garoppolo with the San Francisco 49ers

This is another important background for the potential signing of RGIII. At the moment there is no real trading market for Garoppolo. The Denver Broncos traded for Teddy Bridgewater to compete with Drew Lock for the starting job after being linked to San Francisco’s current starter.

The New England Patriots (Mac Jones) and Chicago Bears (Justin Fields) added first-round quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft. Both were associated with Garoppolo. As of now, the only two teams that could show interest in Garoppolo could be the Houston Texans and the former Washington roster of RGIII in the country’s capital.

All of this comes at a time when some believe Lance may be ready to start Week 1. Shanahan seemed to be indicating that there would be at least one version of a training camp fight between the rookie and Garoppolo. This could cause some important problems in the future.

Meanwhile, San Francisco will pay Garoppolo $ 26.38 million against the cap in 2021. That number could be used for an immediate upgrade as the 49ers try to recover from last season’s disappointing six-win performance and head back to Super Bowl competition.

If the San Francisco 49ers left Garoppolo, they would only have Josh Rosen, Nate Sudfeld and Josh Johnson on the list behind Lance. That is a less than ideal scenario. It also makes RGIII an option in the event a divorce with Jimmy GQ becomes inevitable.
