Clackamas County Historical Society recovers 40% of potential revenue from event space.

Thanks to generous donations, a new HVAC system was installed at the Museum of the Oregon Territory on May 4th.

In early 2020, the Clackamas County Historical Society’s HVAC system on the third floor failed, making events impossible in the CCHS’s Tumwater Ballroom, which generated 40% of the historical society’s revenue. Fortunately, according to CCHS Marketing Director Waldo McGinnis, the Clackamas County community donated 27% of the total goal of $ 143,000, or just over $ 38,000, which CCHS used as a down payment to secure a loan to cover installation costs.

“The COVID-19 pandemic had already profoundly affected Tumwater’s operations; however, the paralyzed HVAC system ensured that the ballroom would not be able to host events at full capacity due to this critical system failure.” said McGinnis. “However, we are still happy about financial donations, as these contributions would help to relieve our reserves and ensure better financial stability for the institution.”

McGinnis said the historic society is “eternally grateful” to its supporters who helped make this HVAC installation a reality.

“We know last year was a particularly difficult one, and we appreciate your donations even more,” said McGinnis. “Please know that the Clackamas County Historical Society would not be here without your contributions. While the HVAC units are now installed, we are not out of the woods yet. ”

The CCHS loan is due by the end of the calendar year, so donations of all sizes continue to be accepted on clackamashistory.org for more information on the museum’s exhibits and services.

“The less money we have to pull from our reserves, the more exhibition updates and relevant programs we can make available to the community in the years to come,” said McGinnis.

On April 7, the Museum of the Oregon Territory returned to full operating hours, four days a week.

MOOT overlooks the Willamette Falls, which changed the region’s industry by powering mills and electricity, as shown by the exhibits in the museum. MOOT is home to petroglyphs and Native American artifacts, the original maps of Oregon City from 1850 and San Francisco from 1851, a piece of the Willamette meteorite, original items from 19th century immigrants to Clackamas County, and thousands of other objects, photographs, and documents representing the Reflecting the history and culture of Clackamas County.

The MOOT is located at 211 Tumwater Drive in Oregon City and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. Admission is $ 8 for adults, $ 5 for children ages 5-17, and $ 7 for seniors 65 and over. Veterans get free entry with ID.

Mariners 7, Astros 2 – Seattle (10-6) won the three-game series with Houston at T-Mobile Park. The Astros only managed one goal from starter Nick Margevicius in the second inning. Margevicius threw four innings and five relievers threw a no-hit ball. Ty France hit a homer with two runs and Mitch Haniger had a double and triple, as well as three RBIs and two runs.

Seattle will play the Los Angeles Dodgers at home for the next two nights.

College baseball

Pilots 8, Lions 2 – Portland (18-17, 10-5) won the three-game series with a visit to Loyola Marymount. Chad Stevens and Hunter Montgomery met UP; Stevens had scored three hits, two RBIs and three runs. Sam Brown went 4 on 4.

The pilots play in a series of three games on Tuesday at OSU and next weekend in San Francisco.

Beavers 5, Bears 3 – Oregon State (24-10, 10-5 Pac-12) won the three-game series in Cal. Ryan Ober and Garret Forrester each drove in two races. Dylan Beavers met Cal.

The Beavers will host Portland on Tuesday and three games at UC Irvine this weekend.

Ducks 7, Trojans 5 – Oregon (22-8, 8-4 Pac-12) scored four runs in the eighth inning and won the three-game series at USC. Sam Novitske and Gabe Matthews had three hits each; Novitske drove in three runs, Matthews scored three runs.

The ducks are hosting UCLA for three games next.

College softball

Bruins 6, Beavers 0 – Oregon State (15-20, 3-12 Pac-12) only managed two hits. In the three games at UCLA, the Beavers had three hits and were beaten 20-0. Maya Brady returned to UCLA. After 12 days, the Beavers will play four games at Stanford starting April 30th.

Huskies 6, Ducks 1 – Oregon (28-8, 6-6 Pac-12) lost three of four games in Seattle. UWs Gabbie Plain took the lead 23-0. Morganne Flores and Sami Reynolds each faced UW.

Oregon went 3-1 against both UCLA and Washington in the past two weeks. The Ducks will host four games at Stanford this weekend.

SATURDAY 17TH APRIL

Pro baseball

Astros 1, Mariners 0 – Zack Greinke allowed four hits in eight innings, and Ryan Pressly ended when Houston beat Seattle at T-Mobile Park. Taylor Jones’ RBI single in the fourth inning overshadowed the only run of the game. Seattle starter Chris Flexen gave up 10 hits and one run in six innings.

College baseball

Ducks 13, Trojans 4 – Oregon scored four home runs from Anthony Hall, Kenyon Yovan, Jack Scanlon and Gavin Grant; Scanlon and Hall hit 3-run shots. Gabe Matthews, now UO’s all-time leader in hits, had three hits and two RBIs.

Beavers 2, Bears 1 – Ryan Obers single ran in the tie run and then Jacob met Melton on the throw of the game when the State of Oregon caught up in the sixth inning. Cooper Hjerpe allowed three hits in sixth innings, and Jake Mulholland got the save and set the School save record (38, previous Kevin Gunderson record, 37 from 2004-06).

Pilots 9, Lions 1 – Ben Patacsil (two-run shot) and Sam Brown each arrived when Portland defeated Loyola Marymount. Bradley McVay improved to 5-1 on the hill and Jacob Dobmeier allowed a hit in three innings of relief.

College softball

Huskies win 4-2, Ducks 10-1 – At the start, Sami Reynolds from Washington met and Gabbie Plain threw himself to 22-0. Oregon’s Shaye Bowden came home. In the second game, Oregon beat UW in a five-inning game when Rachel Cid returned home and ran four RBis and avenue bunkers in three runs.

Vikings 8, Bengals 4 – Paetynn Lopez hit a Grand Slam home run for Portland State (7-22, 4-8 Big Sky) versus Idaho State.

Bruins 7, Beavers 0 – Megan Faraimo allowed a hit and knocked out 17. The second game of the double header has been canceled.

FRIDAY APRIL 16

Pro baseball

Mariners 6, Astros 5 – Houston led 5-2, but Seattle rallied to win. Ty France was awarded the winning run in the ninth inning at JP Crawford. Evan White had finished the game with a homer from the eighth inning.

College baseball

Trojans 9, Ducks 5 – Tyresse Turner hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and Ben Ramirez hit a two-run double in the eighth inning as USC rallied against Oregon. Ramirez also tripled in the run.

Oregon State 15, Cal 8 – Jacob Melton had four hits, including a triple and a home run, and six RBIs. Ryan Ober hit a grand slam. The beavers had 19 hits.

Lions 8, Pilots 5 – Loyola Marymount had 16 hits. Briley Knight returned to Portland.

College softball

Huskies 8, Ducks 0 – Oregon lost their fourth game in a row. The ducks managed just two hits ahead of Gabbie Plain (21-0), who scored the 12th goal. Baylee Klinger and Sami Reynolds met UW.

Bruins 7, Beavers 0 – Rachel Garcia threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts against the State of Oregon. The Bruins had 14 hits, including a homer from Aaliyah Jordan.

Pilots win 8-0, Bengals win 3-2 – Portland State and Idaho State share a double header. Oiivia Gray from the PSU only allowed two hits in the opener. Angelica Cano faced ISU in the second game.

THURSDAY APRIL 15th

Pro baseball

Mariners win 4-2, 2-1 – Seattle went 5-2 on its road trip and culminated in a double header in Baltimore. Mitch Haniger scored in both games, including a two-run shot that connected the prelude. JP Crawford’s double with two runs in the sixth inning gave the Mariners the lead. Marco Gonzales allowed only three hits in the opener and a Trey Mancini homer with two runs in five innings. Dylan Moore and Haniger faced starter Justin Dunn in the second game, who allowed two hits in five innings.

The Mariners will play three games against Houston and then two against the Los Angeles Dodgers at T-Mobile Park starting Friday night.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 14th

College baseball

Ducks 18, Pilots 1 – Oregon attended the University of Portland and beat the pilots. Josh Kasevich went 5v6 with six RBIs and four runs scored. The ducks had 21 hits. Gabe Matthews had two hits, connecting JJ Altobelli (2010-13) to the all-time UO hit mark (211). Matthews has played in 200 games; Altobelli played 229.

TUESDAY APRIL 13th

Pro baseball

Mariners win 4-3, Orioles 7-6 – In a double header, the Mariners took the first game after Monday game postponed due to weather conditions when Ty France and Tom Murphy returned home and Kyle Seager scored an RBI double in the top of the eighth inning . Ramon Urias returned to the Orioles.

Then Urias overtook the winning run for Baltimore in the seventh inning of the second game. Maikal Franco had three RBIs for the Orioles. Jose Marmolejos (3-Run Homer) and Sam Haggerty (2 Run Run) each faced the Mariners.

Huskies 6, Pilots 4 – In an out-of-league game at the University of Portland, the Pilots scored three runs in the ninth inning to close it but failed to break the deficit. Portland’s Ty Saunders had three hits, including a triple and a home run. UP plays Oregon at home at 2pm on Wednesday.

Mariners 4, Giants 0 – Five pitchers combined with six hits in a shutout when Seattle won the season opening series rubber match with three games at T-Mobile Park. Mitch Hanniger and Ty France hit solo homer and Hanniger also doubled up for Seattle, which had six extra base hits and two singles. The Mariners starting pitcher Chris Flexen hit six, went two, and allowed four hits over five innings to claim the win.

Sunday: No game.

Utah 5, Oregon State 3 – In Corvallis, Jake Dukart doubled up twice and drove for the Beavers in two runs, but the Utes won the last game of a three-game Pac-12 series in the fifth inning thanks to four inexperienced runs.

Oregon 2-6, New Mexico State 1-1 – At PK Park, Cullen Kafka (12 strikeouts) and Brett Walker (13 strikeouts) ducks took off in the non-conference, double-headed sweep of a four-game game beaten sweeping the aggies. Oregon pitchers hit 33:20 in the second game that day.

Portland 3, Saint Mary’s 0 – Left-handed Brad McVay threw seven innings with eight strikeouts and five hits. Newcomer Sam Brown went 3 to 4 with a home run for the pilots (13-13, 6-3, WCC).

College softball

Oregon 4, Oregon State 3 – The ducks held the beavers back to play three out of four games at Corvallis, including two out of three that count in the Pac-12 standings.

Oregon’s Brooke Yanez hit 12 over 5.1 innings and Makenna Kliethermes pulled the last five Beavers back in sequence. The Ducks (26-2, 5-1 Pac-12) got a home run from Rachel Cid, who had two of their eight hits. Mya Felder delivered a single for Oregon with two outs and two runs in the top third. OSU received solo home runs from Frankie Hammoude and Missy Nunes in the sixth inning to draw within 4-3. Bailey McLaughlin also faced the Beavers (14-14, 3-6).

# 3 Oregon is expected to host the UCLA # 2 for four games starting Friday, April 9th.

FRIDAY APRIL 2nd

Giants 6, Mariners 3 – The Mariners had a solid start from Yusei Kikuchi (six innings, 10 strikeouts, three runs earned), but the Giants scored three runs with two outs on seventh off-reliever Drew Steckenrider to help build the lead revolt. Donovan Solano went 3: 5 with the starting double in San Francisco in seventh place.

After four seasons with the LA Angels, Portland native (and Milwaukie High Grad) Keynan Middleton threw 1 1/3 goalless innings on his Mariners debut.

Oregon State 17, Utah 3 – Jacob Melton hit three of Oregon State’s five home runs, including a grand slam in the seventh inning in the Beavers’ win at Corvallis.

Oregon 8, State of New Mexico 2 – Robert Ahlstrom threw six solid innings and didn’t allow a deserved run. The Ducks scored three hits in the third and fourth innings of the Nonleague win at Eugene.

St. Mary’s 14, Portland 2 – The Pilots fell 12-13, 5-3 in the WCC game, losing in Moraga, California.

College softball

Oregon State 8, Oregon 1 – At the Pac-12 competition in Corvallis, Beavers’ pitcher Mariah Mazon limited the ducks to three hits and hit seven. She also had three hits and three RBIs.

Oregon 4, Oregon State 0 – In Friday’s second game that didn’t count in the Pac-12 game, Oregon’s Brooke Yanez threw a three-hit shutout with seven spikes for the Ducks.

THURSDAY APRIL 1st

Mariners 8, Giants 7 – Seattle opened its season with a walk-off win. A real companion. The Mariners drew three runs from Giants’ pitcher Jose Alvarez at the end of the 10th to end a game they left 5-0 and 6-1. An eight-time, eight-time inning with three hits, three walks and one major SF mistake got Seattle going. The woman had only five hits – the largest a single with two runs in the eighth inning by Dylan Moore (three RBIs) – but benefited from nine walks and a batsman.

Friday game: Giants at Mariners, 7:10 p.m.

College baseball

Portland 4, Saint Mary’s 3 – Ty Saunders’ RBI single on top of the 13th won it for the visiting pilots.

Oregon State 4, Utah 3 – Jake Mulholland combined the Oregon State record with his 37th career rescue. Jake Dukart went 4 for 4 and the beavers used a fifth run to outperform the visiting utes.

Oregon 5, New Mexico State 0 – Four pitchers combined in a three-hit shutout for the No. 19 Ducks.

College softball

Oregon 2, Oregon State 0 – Brooke Yanez threw a three-hit shutout with 15 spikes as Oregon ranked third beat Oregon State 2-0 in a four-game run at Corvallis. Haley Cruse scored a leadoff home run and scored an insurance run for the Ducks in the seventh (24-1, 4-0 Pac-12). Mariah Mazon hit nine and had two of the hits for the Beavers (13-12, 2-5).

The series continues with two games on Friday, the first of which is a Pac-12 game that starts at 2 p.m. (Pac-12 Network).

Don’t look now, but Seattle has built its way into the American League playoff picture. Mariners win 8-4 Monday

The Seattle Mariners are in the American League playoff picture – seriously.

In a supposed year of reconstruction, the Mariners have risen with six wins in a row in the past few days. They beat Texas 8-4 at T-Mobile Park on Monday and completed a four-game battle against the Rangers. The last time the teams met, the Mariners swept a three-game series.

Kyle Seager hit a homer in the first inning, two runs and Dylan Moore added a solo shot in the third inning.

In a fifth inning with five runs, Moore cleared the bases with a doubles and Ty France drove in two runs with a singles.

Marco Gonzales allowed four hits and two runs while scoring seven hits and not going in seven innings. He improved with an ERA of 3.02 to 5: 2.

The Mariners (19-22) play two games in San Francisco and three in Arizona. Ljay Newsome starts Tuesday at 6.45pm in San Francisco against Logan Webb for Seattle.

In the shortened season of 60 games, two teams from each division and two wildcard teams will play the American League playoffs.

Oakland leads the AL West Division with 24-14, 4 1/2 games from Houston and 6 1/2 games from Seattle.

Other wildcard contenders are currently Minnesota (26-17), the fighting New York Yankees (21-20), Baltimore (19-21) and Detroit (18-21).

Oregon Sports History / 1969: Portland joins the Continental Football League; Ex-Duck-Berry starts for falcons in Multnomah Stadium

6-7 August 1969

Madison High’s Contractors team opened the Oregon American Legion semifinals with a 2-1 triumph over The Dalles Merchants at Sckavone Field. The battery of pitcher Jim Officer and catcher Dave Gasser leads the way, with Officer scoring 10 strikeouts.

The next day Tom Wise plays 20 Batters, while the Contractors win the series with a 7-0 win.

The Madison contribution will hit Klamath Falls for the state championship after the Falcons eliminate Corvallis.

• Portland joins the Continental Football League. The team, known as Logger, comes from a core of the Orange County Ramblers who are leaving the league. The first of 12 regular season games is August 24th.

• Atlanta Falcons coach Norm Van Brocklin, a former University of Oregon quarterback, names ex-duck QB Bob Berry as the starter for this weekend’s show against the Philadelphia Eagles at Multnomah Stadium.

• The Metro Shrine all-star soccer game is a week away, also at Multnomah Stadium. John Allen of the Jesuits is the head coach of the Metro team, aided by Boyd Crawford of Lake Oswego and Marv Hiebert, of David Douglas High to Mt. Hood Community College.

• Pro-wrestler Shag Thomas continues his final fight before retiring against Rip Kirby of San Francisco. The game will take place at the Portland Sports Arena on Saturday night.

Updates from March 6th to 7th: Lillard scores 32 points, Simons wins the slam dunk competition; College baseball, softball, volleyball, and more

NBA All-Star Game – The Trail Blazers Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons caused a sensation at Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta.

Lillard scored 32 points and took two half-pitch shots as he helped Team LeBron beat Team Durant 170-150 in the pseudo basketball game.

Lillard was the second top scorer in the game but didn’t make all 16 shots like MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo on the defense-frowning show.

Lillard during the half-field shots, one at the end of the first half and a second to win for Team LeBron:

“I didn’t do it in an actual game, but tested it in live action (now). Felt decent, fine. Like a regular jumper. I can shoot it pretty easily.”

Simons made a name for himself at halftime and became the first Portland player to win the slam dunk competition.

Simons defeated rookies Obi Toppin of the Knicks and Cassius Stanley of the Pacers in the competition and made a name for himself by almost kissing the edge as he dived.

The competition was judged by five former dunk champions: Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, Spud Webb, Dee Brown, Jason Richardson, and Josh Smith.

“Having the chance to be a part of it and win is surreal,” said Simons.

College Baseball – After the state of Oregon beat BYU, it will face Oregon 10-1 in Corvallis this Friday through Sunday. The Beavers had excellent pitching, not allowing more than three runs in any one of 10 straight wins. Team ERA is 1.64 and their opponents beat .172.

Oregon (6-2) won four games at UC Santa Barbara last weekend, the first four-game race by a high-ranking opponent in program history. The ducks defeated UCSB 38-16 and fought .302 with 14 extra base hits in the sweep.

Portland played one of three games outside the Gonzaga conference and was 3-6 over the weekend in a March 9 game in Washington and a four-game home game against Utah Valley.

College Cross Country – The University of Portland’s men’s and women’s teams and the Oregon State women’s team will compete in the 2020 NCAA Cross Country Championships held in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Monday, March 15 (TV live at 9:30 a.m.) ESPNU).

The pilot men are 17th. UP women 20 are led by WCC Champion Anna Pataki. The OSU women finished fourth in the program at the Pac-12 Championships on March 5 and are being referred to nationals for the second time in program history.

Individually, Oregon Redshirt Senior (Sheldon High) will have his third individual appearance at the NCAA championships.

Oregon’s focus is on the NCAA Indoor Track Championships, where the Duck men (12 entries) are # 1. The Duck women have eight entries in the indoor championship.

College Volleyball – Oregon made a dazzling comeback on March 7, beating seventh Washington in five straight sets. The huskies swept the first meeting last weekend and then did the first two sets on Sunday before the ducks recovered. Oregon (9-3) will play two games at Stanford next.

The State of Oregon (5-7) will host Washington State on March 12-14, after winning both games in California.

Portland State scored its first Big Sky win, defeating Montana in four straight sets on March 7th. The same teams should play on Monday.

College Men’s Football – The Portland Pilots will host Loyola Marymount on Sunday March 14 at 1:00 p.m. to claim their first WCC victory after losing 2-1 at Pacific on March 7.

Oregon State, 6-0, and 10th on United Soccer Coaches poll on March 2nd, face a big game on Saturday, March 13th at Stanford in 3rd place.

College Women’s Football – Two goals from Taryn Ries led Portland to a 2-0 win over Pacific on March 6. The pilots (2-2-0, 1-2-0 WCC) play in San Francisco on March 13th.

Oregon (2-3-1, 1-2 Pac-12) and Oregon State (2-4-0, 0-3-0) lost at UCLA and USC respectively last week, with the Beavers being UCLA No. 3 in overtime resulted in a 2-1 loss. Schools in Arizona visit the Willamette Valley for Friday and Sunday games.

Terry Porter knew there would be many educational moments this basketball season for his Portland Pilots squad, which includes four freshmen and six freshman players.

Last week the pilots experienced the best way to learn: lessons in winning.

Portland (10-15, 4-8 West Coast Conference) prevailed in extra time against Pepperdine in extra time and Loyola Marymount in two late free throws. Sure, the victories went to the only teams among the pilots in the WCC rating. But such tense victories can leave a lasting impression.

“At the beginning of the year we had sales from our young people in late game situations that we didn’t do well. And we learned from that,” said Terry Porter after Saturday’s 68:66 win against LMU. “We did a much better job in all of these games by running the track at both ends of the floor.”

Examples of the growth in this profit have been the game-winning game. The newcomer Marcus Shaver Jr. was able to drive to the basket, pull a foul and knock down two free throws with 2.3 seconds on the clock. In Thursday’s win against Pepperdine, Shaver scored seven out of 14 points in extra time in Portland.

The razor and colleague JoJo Walker also took turns keeping LMU’s top scorer, James Batemon, six points below his season average.

Freshman striker Tahirou Diabate hit a game high of 19 against Pepperdine and scored a blocked key shot late in both games – a kind of momentum shifting game that Diabate has consistently started.

The Mali-born 6-9 Diabate who appeared as a high school player in Japan has started the last 10 games. It was included on the grid at the start of the conference schedule to provide rim protection and rebound.

“He stuck to his work and learned and was very receptive to what everyone had to say to him. He is an example of our growth as a team,” said senior wing D’Marques Tyson. “At the beginning of the season he would have been worried about where he should be and not worried about protecting the rim. He recognizes that now and takes on his role and is a solid rim protector.”

For his part, Tyson has taken on a role as the bench’s goalscorer. In Saturday’s game against LMU, he made 6 of 8 3-pointers and scored 22 points.

Terry Porter calls Tyson the pilot version of Vinnie “Microwave” Johnson, who set Porter’s Trail Blazer on fire in the 1990 NBA Finals.

The two narrow victories are an emotional upswing for a pilots team that doubled their overall WCC victory last season, 4-8 in the conference.

“We started to play more as a team. That’s how we achieved these two wins,” said Redshirt student Franklin Porter, who scored 12 points in both wins last week, including eight of the last 16 minutes against LMU. “It only builds trust for the whole team. If we go down this route, we have a schedule that we think is more favorable and we’re just trying to get a higher starting value for the conference tournament.”

The pilots who visit Damon Stoudamire’s Pacific Tigers on Thursday in San Francisco and on Saturday and then play three of their last four at home have a lot to learn.

“Our boys are growing. We are making progress,” said Terry Porter. “We still have a long way to go to find the right path. But it’s great to have momentum, great to get these guys involved in what we’re trying to do.”

‘Boo Boo’ boom

Portland wasn’t the only one getting great pieces from newbies on Saturday. Portland State’s Holland “Boo Boo” Woods led the Vikings to a much-needed win over Eastern Washington at Lewis & Clark.

Woods hit all 10 of his shots from the ground (a program record for most field goals without a miss) en route to 29 points. The point guard also had nine assists and no turnovers as the power supply ended up with 22 assists and six turnovers to stop a three-game skid.

Portland State manager Barret Peery describes Woods, who finished second in the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year last season, as wise beyond his years.

“He’s been great all year round with his ability to handle the ball for us for longer minutes,” said Peery. “When he shoots the ball like that, he’s really hard to protect because he can make you come and go.”

The month of January was full of comings and goings for the Vikings, who were understaffed for most of the month due to illness, injury and suspension. Top scorer Deontae North has missed three games and was suspended indefinitely earlier this week.

Woods and Bryce Canda are the only Vikings to have started all 10 Big Sky games, and Peery used five different starting fives in those 10 games.

By comparison, the Idaho team that hit the PSU a week ago have been using the same five starters all season, according to Peery.

“January was a turbulent, crazy month. We’re just hoping for a nice, smooth February and trying to keep things as normal as possible,” said Peery.

Senior striker Brandon Hollins returned to the starting line-up last weekend after suffering from pneumonia for a few weeks.

Hollins leads the conference in Field Goal Percentage (.588).

“He was a tremendous energetic guy to us,” said Peery. “He’s a rebounder, a defender and can hit the ball on the edge.”

Having too few players means adjusting the pressure on the field and the steady pace that Peery introduced this season. Despite some gunfights in the conference, the Vikings finished fourth in the nation that week (88.3 points per game).

The Vikings face a challenging week of games in the Montana schools.

The first is a Thursday visit to the Grizzlies, who are 11-0 in the conference game. Montana’s closest Big Sky game was a 92-89 win over PSU on January 13 in a highly competitive game at Lewis & Clark.

On Saturday afternoon, the Vikings will be shooting for a second win against Montana State, which starts the week half a game before the power supply in the conference standings.

• Jefferson High Grade Victor Sanders had 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds in Idaho’s 97-88 win over PSU last week. It was the last game in Portland for Sanders, who finished second in his career in Idaho. … Columbia Christian The senior Arkadiy Mkrtychyan, also senior, had 11 points and seven rebounds for Idaho.

Knighthood

The Warner Pacific men’s basketball team was named Team of the Week for the Cascade Collegiate Conference after winning last weekend against Northwest Christian and Corban.

The Knights, who have won five of their last six and ranked 15th in the latest NAIA Division II coaching poll, start an important weekend with second place in the CCC 12-4 against Eastern Oregon. The climbers visit Warner Pacific’s CC Perry Gym on Friday at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Saturday visit to the first place College of Idaho (15-1 and # 7 nationally).

Coach Jared Valentine points out that better defense is the key to the Knights’ recent success – and that “D” will be key to avenging losses to EOU and C of I.

“I’m starting to be a little pleased with our defense work,” says Valentine. “I don’t know we fully understood the defensive execution in the first half of the conference.”

One thing the knights know is rebounding. Senior De’Jon Bowman, a 6-6 year old from Las Vegas, won a school record of 24 boards (and scored 21 points) when he won at Northwest Christian. It averages 9.7 rebounds.

After this week, WPC will end the regular season with street games against Northwest and Evergreen State.

Second place is important as it provides the opportunity to play at home in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the conference tournament.

Valentine expects the CCC to include four teams in the national tournament. A second place would mean a higher rank and better seed for this competition.

In the neighborhood

• After disappointing losses in Idaho and east Washington, Portland State women return to Lewis & Clark to entertain Montana at 7pm on Thursday and Montana State at 1pm on Saturday. A season high of 31 sales condemned the Vikings in their seven-point loss in east Washington. With 5-5 (11-10 in total) the power supply is in eighth place in the Big Sky.

• The Portland Pilots women (5-18, 1-11 WCC) will be in San Francisco on Thursday at 7:00 pm and Pacific on Saturday at 2:00 pm.

• With four games remaining, the Lewis & Clark women are fourth of four playoff spots in the Northwest Conference. The Pioneers (11-10 total) are 6-6 in the conference and one game in front of Puget Sound and Linfield. You will host Pacific Lutheran on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and visit Linfield on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The last two regular season games will be played at George Fox and the following weekend against Puget Sound.

• The men’s Concordia basketball team is still shooting its first victory at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, hosting Saint Martin’s on Thursday at 7:30 pm and Seattle Pacific on Saturday at 7:30 pm. Of the Cavaliers’ 14 GNAC losses, six are by five points or less (and two of the last three are by one point).

• The Concordia women (6-8 GNAC) host the Alaska Schools Thursday and Saturday at 5:15 pm.
