PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Zack Wheeler struck out 11 in seven innings, Bryce Harper hit a three-run home run and Kyle Schwarber added a solo shot to help the Philadelphia Phillies earn a four-game win over the San Francisco Giants by 6 :1 to complete victory on Monday.

Harper singled deep against Giants rookie Mason Black, spoiling the major league debut of the Giants right-hander, who pitched in the fifth inning against the team he rooted for as a kid.

“I hope he enjoyed it with his family, his teammates and everything else because there is only one debut,” Harper said.

This season's Phillies are winning as many as the ones Black cheered for as a child.

The major league-leading Phillies (25-11) won their sixth straight and have won 10 of 11 and 17 of 20 to open a three-game lead over Atlanta in the NL East.

The Phillies have also won 10 straight games at Citizens Bank Park, just two wins shy of matching the team record set in 2012. Philadelphia also set a franchise record with 11 consecutive wins against NL West opponents.

“I feel like we win in different ways every night. And it's a completely different player who makes it big, be it a hitter or a pitcher. It’s never the same guy, which is nice,” catcher JT Realmuto said. “There is not too much pressure on a player. We all feel like we play really well together and have a lot of fun, and the guys contribute every night.”

Harper hit a home run for the second straight game and his eighth hit of the season made it 4-0 against Black (0-1). Black made his major league debut in front of his parents, younger brother, girlfriend and numerous friends and family who came to watch him play against his favorite childhood team.

The 24-year-old Black – rated the seventh-best prospect in baseball according to MLB.com – was the Giants' third-round pick in the 2021 draft out of Lehigh University. Black recorded a 1-2-3 first inning that included strikeouts by JT Realmuto and Harper, the latter of which was caught in the 88 mph changeup.

Black allowed eight hits, five runs and three walks. He struck out four hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Wheeler (4-3) showed the rookie how it's done. He rebounded from an 0-3 start – he allowed a total of six runs in his first three starts – to win his fourth straight start. Wheeler allowed one run, walked one and lowered his ERA to 1.64.

“Today Wheels did what Zack does every time he goes out there. It was fun to watch and keep us in the game,” Harper said.

Matt Strahm pitched a scoreless eighth and Orion Kerkering pitched the ninth to complete the five.

With shortstop Trea Turner out for at least six weeks with a left hamstring strain, his replacements are starting to fill the void. Bryson Stott moved from second base to shortstop and snagged a great grounder from Wilmer Flores in the first to set up an inning-ending double play. Whit Merrifield started second and gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the fourth.

Harper had a three-run toss in the fifth and Nick Castellanos, who hit 37 doubles last season, got his first hit of the year later in the inning for a 5-0 lead.

Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm went 0-for-4, ending his hitting streak at 18 games.

HUGE BREAK

The Giants lost for the sixth time in seven games, falling 6-14 on the road. They lost two of three games in Boston and ended their 10-game trip with three games at Colorado, the only team behind San Francisco in the NL West. Maybe there will be a Mile High fortune change for the Giants — they are 18-8 at Coors Field with a plus-51 run differential since 2021.

“We need to clean up,” manager Bob Melvin said. “We have to play better. We left home one game under .500 and not playing very well. I thought (the road) could be a pretty good spot for us since we hadn't been playing well. And now we’re playing terribly.”

NEXT

The Giants send LHP Kyle Harrison (2-1, 3.79 ERA) to the mound against Rockies RHP Dakota Hudson (0-5, 5.93) on Tuesday.

The Phillies stay at home and open a two-game set against Toronto on Tuesday. They will send LHP Cristopher Sánchez (1-3, 3.68) to the mound against Blue Jays RHP José Berríos (4-2, 1.44).

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Alec Bohm scored a tiebreak single in the eighth inning, Zach Eflin gave Philadelphia another strong start and the Phillies ended a three-game sweep of the reigning NL east champion Atlanta Braves with a 2-1 win on Sunday .

Philadelphia’s pitching team was the story of the season opening streak when the starting trio of Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler and Eflin gave up just three runs, 11 hits and one walk in 20 2/3 innings against an Atlanta line-up that led the majors in 2020 with 556 Hits.

The Phillies Bullpen, who scored a 7.06 ERA in 2020, failed to deliver a run in 7 1/3 innings in the set.

Eflin went seven strong innings, allowing only four hits and one walk while striking eight. The only mistake he made was hanging a curveball to Travis d’Arnaud, which ended the winds blowing into Citizens Bank Park on the seventh, ending Atlanta’s 19-inning scoring drought, with a binding solo -Homer pierced.

Philadelphia regained the lead in eighth place when Rhys Hoskins, Bryce Harper and Bohm beat consecutive singles against Chris Martin (0-1). Hoskins hit midfielder Cristian Pache just before the throw.

Atlanta starter Ian Anderson jiggled in trouble early on, hitting seven hitters while allowing four hits. Andrew Knapp homered in the second.

Hector Neris picked up his first save, dodging the problems caused by two-out walks against Freddie Freeman and Marcell Ozuna. D’Arnaud flew out to end it.

CROWD SOURCING

After the Phillies played in front of 8,500 people in the first two Homestands games, the Phillies received permission from the City of Philadelphia to increase the crowd to nearly 11,000 fans on Sunday – about 25 percent of that at Citizens Bank Park.

The club announced a crowd of 10,773 for the final on Sunday, with social distancing pods scattered around every level of the ballpark.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has increased entry restrictions for outdoor sports and concert venues to 50 percent on Sundays and 25 percent indoors. However, the city of Philadelphia has different regulations and has capped visitor numbers to just 20 percent before Sunday.

NEXT

Braves: Atlanta was scheduled to play in a three-game set in Washington starting Monday. The Nationals had to cancel their first three games of the season due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Drew Smyly will make his first start for the Braves after coming from San Francisco as a free agent. The Nationals did not reveal their starting pitcher and were not fully cleared for full squad training on Sunday afternoon.

Phillies: Host the New York Mets in a three-game set starting Monday. Philadelphia will send newly signed left-hander Matt Moore up the hill for the first time. Moore spent the 2020 season in Japan after playing only twice for the Detroit Tigers in 2019. He faces two-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom, who will make his New York delayed opener debut after a weekend series in Washington was postponed due to the Nationals’ COVID-19 issues.

The San Francisco Giants (45-26) host the Philadelphia Phillies (34-34) Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game series in Oracle Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines of BetMGM Sportsbook around the Phillies vs. Giants odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Philly smoothed the streak by beating San Francisco 13-6 as 1B on Saturday Rhys Hoskins showed up, scoring 3-for-6 with a double, two home runs and six RBIs.

Season streak: Giants lead 3-2.

RHP Zach Eflin is on the hill for the Phillies. Eflin is 2-5 with 3.99 ERA (79 IP, 35 ER), 1.24 WHIP, 1.1 BB / 9 and 8.8 K / 9 with 13 starts.

Last game: No decision with 5 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 0 BB and 2 K in Philly’s 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.

Eflin hadn’t made a decision on a start earlier this season (April 21st) against the Giants with a stat of 6 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 0 BB and 3 K with a 6-5 loss at Philly.

vs. Giants in the current squad: 64 At-bats with a .313 / .371 / .531 slashline, 11/6 K / BB, 3 HR and 12 RBIs.

Rookie LHP Sammy Long makes his first career start for the Giants. Long has made two relief appearances this season with a statistic of 9 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 2 BB and 10 K.

Phillies at Giants odds, lines, tips and predictions

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; Visit USA TODAY Sports for a full list. The odds were last updated at 10:52 PM ET.

Money line: Phillies +105 (bet $ 100 to win $ 105) | Giants -125 (wager $ 125 to win $ 100)

Against the spread / ATS: Phillies +1.5 (-200) | Giants -1.5 (+165)

Over under: 8 (O: -105 | U: -115)

forecast

Phillies 7, Giants 4

Money line (ML)

“LEAN” to the PHILLIES (+105) for half a unit because I like Philly’s First 5 Innings Run Line Price and because the Phillies have an advantage in pitching matchup and market movement.

Typically an innings eater, Eflin has failed to cross the 6th inning in two of his previous three outings after pitching the season with 10 consecutive starts of six or more innings.

Also, the Giants opened up as -160 moneylines favorites but were reduced to the current number, although the vast majority of bets were placed on San Francisco to win. In sports betting, it is a warning signal when the “house” makes the more popular side cheaper.

Tread Line / Against the Spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to the PHILLIES FIRST 5 INNINGS +0.5 (-135) for half a unit. This is the best bet I have on the game as Eflin has played at least five innings in 12 of his 13 starts. So we shouldn’t make Philly’s terrible bullpen sweat.

The San Francisco bullpen isn’t much better either, as it ranks 26th in WAR for the season. So Philly’s hot pounding could certainly intimidate the Giants reliefs.

Over / Under (O / U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 8 (-105) for half a unit. The weather forecast predicts winds of 10 mph (10 mph) blowing into the left center and the Phillies have played to over in four of their last five games.

PHILADELPHIA – A slew of excellent pitches and just enough punches gave the Philadelphia Phillies a good start on their journey to dethrone three-time NL East champion Atlanta Braves.

Alec Bohm had a tie-break singles in the eighth inning, Zach Eflin gave Philadelphia another strong start, and the Phillies ended a three-game sweep for the Braves with a 2-1 win on Sunday.

Philadelphia’s pitching team was the story of the opening streak as the starting trio of Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler and Eflin gave up just three runs, 11 hits and one walk while recording 24 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings against NL MVP Freddie Freeman and one Atlanta lineup, which led the majors with 556 hits in 2020.

The Phillies Bullpen, who scored a 7.06 ERA in 2020, failed to deliver a run in 7 1/3 innings in the set.

“Everyone did their job,” said Phillies manager Joe Girardi. “The starters came in and did their job. The bullpen did its job. Limiting this team to the number of runs we did is not easy.”

Philadelphia’s pitching kept the Atlanta lineup in check, with Freeman, Ronald Acuña Jr., Ozzie Albies and Marcell Ozuna coming together to score 3 for 44 (0.068) on the three-game set.

“We’re going to go through that in this game,” said Braves manager Brian Snitker. “We’ll probably go through that in July or August. We’ve had some good pitchings. But I’d rather be up against a team like us (as opponents) early rather than late, if we get our offensive going and get some at-bats. ” “

Eflin went seven strong innings, allowing only four hits and one walk while striking eight. The only mistake he made was hanging Travis d’Arnaud a curveball that ended the winds blowing into Citizens Bank Park on the seventh, ending Atlanta’s 19-inning scoring drought, with a binding solo -Homer pierced.

“We know these guys can strike,” said Eflin. “It’s a huge goal to go into a start and try to limit the number of strokes they can hit. They emphasize weak contact against them. It’s great to go deep into the game at the first start, get them out to balance, to double something. ” play when I had to and let her guess. “

Philadelphia regained the lead in eighth place when Rhys Hoskins, Bryce Harper and Bohm beat consecutive singles against Chris Martin (0-1). Hoskins hit midfielder Cristian Pache just before the throw.

Hector Neris recorded his first parade, avoiding the problems caused by two-out walks to Freeman and Ozuna. D’Arnaud flew out to end it

“I think we’ve proven to ourselves that we can win a game every night and we have people who move up,” said Bohm. “And we showed our bullpen was real by these guys closing the door.”

Atlanta starter Ian Anderson jiggled in trouble early on, hitting seven hitters while allowing four hits. Andrew Knapp homered in the second.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Bryce Harper joined the game in one fell swoop, scoring the winning run with a hand brushing the plate. The Phillies bat was in the mix for two late rallies that saved them from a sweep.

“This is the most dangerous Bryce Harper you can find,” said starter Zach Eflin. “You can feel that the entire team is present. Everyone gets excited about it. “

Andrew Knapp hit the winning single in the ninth inning, Harper hit a solo homer in the seventh, and Philadelphia beat the San Francisco Giants 6-5 on Wednesday.

Harper walked away from Wandy Peralta (2-1) to open the ninth and Brad Miller’s fourth goal of the game brought up two runners. Barely hit a one-off single to the left, and Harper hit Alex Dickerson’s throw, struck while standing and touched the plate with his fingertips to help the Phillies stave off a three-game battle against their former manager, Gabe Kapler, and the Giants .

Hector Neris (1-1) scored two goals with a goalless ninth goal.

In it, Ruf had a close homer with three runs in the seventh from Brandon Kintzler and the Giants took a 5-4 lead in the inning after left fielder Andrew McCutchen dropped a routine flyball due to a mistake with two outs. Dickerson drove for the lead in Mike Yastrzemski two batters later. Reputation, a former Phillie, had San Francisco’s seventh prize hit of the season and third homer, and apparently put the Giants in a position to drive home with a winning record on their trip.

“I thought we played some good baseball, and I think our offense on this series started to gel a little and show off the kind of firepower we have,” Kapler said. “I think there is a better baseball in us and I’ll never be satisfied if I go 3-3 on a road trip.”

Harper wasted little time tying the game, hitting a solo homer for the fourth time this season ahead of Camilo Doval.

Mickey Moniak made his first career home run for the Phillies five years after making him number 1 in the amateur draft. Moniak has just hit .067 since he was called up last week on Philadelphia’s latest attempt to keep production in midfield.

With Moniak, Phillies Center Fielders were 4 to 54 with no additional hits that season. Moniak finished that extra base skid when he took a 3-0 lead over Anthony DeSciafani in the second inning – to the delight of a young Phillies fan trying to eat the ball.

Moniak got the ball back and wanted to check whether there was actually a bite mark on the ball.

“Could definitely be and I honestly hope so,” said Moniak.

Moniak only had 13 record appearances in 13 games in 2020 and this season on Wednesday – and shuffled in the minors. Moniak won’t turn 23 until May and this week manager Joe Girardi gave him the chance to secure a spot in the middle. Roman Quinn and Adam Haseley both fought and even Moniak was dragged to seventh place for Scott Kingery.

Moniak gave the Phillies the boost they needed after losing 2-0 and 10-7 in their first two games.

“I think it’s a huge success, especially after we lost the game last night,” said manager Joe Girardi.

Eflin allowed a run in six innings for the Phillies. The game was paused by rain for 44 minutes and played in cold, stormy weather that was more in keeping with the old Candlestick Park. The weather had nothing to do with the slumped McCutchen hitting .164. Yastrzemski’s ball just popped out of McCuthen’s glove.

Eflin was ninth in the clubhouse and “ready to get ballistic” when the Phillies took the winning run.

TRAINING ROOM

Giants: Kapler said Solano had a strained right calf and will miss an indefinite amount of time. Shortstop Brandon Crawford also left the game with bottlenecks.

Phillies: 2B Jean Segura was put on the 10-day injured list after exiting Tuesday’s game with a right quad load to hit a throw. The Phillies also remembered Kingery and RHP Spencer Howard of the Lehigh Valley. RHP Ramón Rosso was selected as an option for the Lehigh Valley.

NEXT

Giants: RHP Aaron Sanchez (0-1, 2.45 ERA) kicks off as the Giants return home Thursday for the start of a four-game series against the Marlins. Sanchez has allowed two runs or less in each of his first three starts. LHP Daniel Castano (0-0, 1.80 ERA) starts for the Marlins.

Phillies: Open a three-game series in Colorado on Friday. RHP Vince Velasquez (0-0, 9.00 ERA) starts for the Phillies.
