As the San Francisco 49ers take on the Dallas Cowboys in the wild card round, Jimmy Garoppolo will be acting through pain after torn thumb ligaments and fractured a bone a few weeks ago. It could be his last game as a San Francisco quarterback.

As NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport explained, the 49ers plan to move Trey Lance, their first-round pick from the 2021 draft, into the starting position next year, replacing 30-year-old Garoppolo.

“To my knowledge, the 49ers are still looking to pick Trey Lance as their starter in the first round, which means they will likely be exploring trade options for Garoppolo. And for his part, he seems to be really enjoying it and enjoying this moment.”

Going on from Garoppolo could be difficult at first. He’s a consistent option behind centre, although not a standout. He helped lead a strong offense thanks to stars Deebo Samuel and George Kittle. However, Lance has the potential to develop into more than Garoppolo is at the moment. San Francisco makes the smart move to get Lance up and running after a year of being owned by Jimmy G.

It’s a tough break for Garoppolo, who overcame injury to help the 49ers get into the playoffs. He admitted he’s been thinking about his future with the team and now it seems imminent that these playoffs will be his final drive.

While the fate of San Francisco’s season weighs on Garoppolo’s performance against a stingy Dallas defense, the state of the franchise’s future weighs the balance of Lance’s skills.

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin — There will be no shortage of drama as the Green Bay Packers host the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC divisional playoff game next weekend.

There’s the Packers’ decade-long quest for another Super Bowl. There’s Packers coach Matt LaFleur’s icy relationship with his colleague Kyle Shanahan. There’s Green Bay’s playoff story against San Francisco. And there’s the next tune in Aaron Rodgers’ potential “last dance” season with the Packers.

As No. 1 in the NFC playoffs, the Packers earned the first-round bye and the right to host the lowest remaining seed of the wildcard weekend. That’s sixth-ranked San Francisco, who upset Mike McCarthy’s third-ranked Dallas Cowboys by 11:17 on Sunday.

The Cowboys bounced back from a 23-7 deficit and had an opportunity when Niner’s All-Pro offensive tackle Trent Williams was called out for a false start in what would have been a crucial quarterback sneak with 40 seconds left. Dallas started at 20 with 32 seconds remaining. A trick play won 20, a screen won 10, and another finisher gained 10 more to the Niners’ 40 with 14 seconds to go. Dak Prescott climbed to the 24 of the 49ers, was tackled within bounds and time was up when the official spotted the ball.

The rematch between the Packers and 49ers could be played on Saturday — and maybe in the primetime slot. In the past 20 years of the playoffs, the NFC and AFC have each had a divisional playoff game on Saturday and another on Sunday. Since the winner of Monday night’s Cardinals-Rams game will almost certainly play in Tampa Bay on Sunday, the Green Bay game could go ahead on Saturday.

In any case, it will be cold, although perhaps not bitterly cold.

The Packers defeated the 49ers 30-28 in Week 3. In a game that pitted two of the NFC’s supposed – and eventual – powerhouses, the Packers won in dramatic fashion.

Trailing 28-27 with 37 seconds and zero timeouts, Rodgers connected with Davante Adams for gains of 25 yards to midfield and 17 yards to the 33-yard line. After the second close, Rodgers jabbed the ball and vigorously pumped his fist into position with Mason Crosby to win the game with a 51-yard field goal.

Crosby did just that – the kick was almost blocked – and sparked a big celebration as the Packers pulled off the excitement.

“It felt like it was such a growth moment for us,” Rodgers said afterwards. “I’m really glad the guys are feeling that, and it feels like, ‘OK, now we’re on our way. Now we can go for it, now we know how to win and we can take this thing in the right direction.’”

Looking ahead, not looking back, a disparity in Green Bay’s favor is revenue. Green Bay finished third in the league with a revenue gain of 13. It ranked first in the league with 13 giveaways. it had 10 before the backups spat it out three times in Detroit. The 49ers finished 22nd with minus 4.

A mismatch in San Francisco’s favor is the red zone. Green Bay ranked 23rd in red zone defense while San Francisco ranked first in red zone offense.

Green Bay’s new and potentially improved offensive line, with left tackle David Bakhtiari and center Josh Myers, who has returned from knee injuries to start against Detroit, is being tested by the 49ers’ excellent defensive line. Even with Nick Bosa on concussion log for much of the game, San Francisco recorded five sacks and 14 quarterback hits, limiting Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott to 31 yards on 12 carries (2.6 average).

The Packers haven’t won the Super Bowl since 2010. To keep the season alive and earn a third straight NFC Championship game, Rodgers must avenge some bad playoff stories. Rodgers was picked from the playoffs three times by the 49ers: 37-20 in the 2019 NFC Championship Game in San Francisco, 23-20 at Lambeau Field in the 2013 wild card round, and 45-31 in the Divisional Round in San Francisco.

This season, the 49ers’ offense ranked 13th with 25.1 points per game, seventh in total offense (375.7 yards per game) and first in yards per game (8.2). Defensively, they ranked 12th with 21.5 points allowed per game, but third in overall defense (310.3), third in sack percentage (8.8) and seventh in terms of that Goal before goal (63.3 percent touchdowns).

“Lots of cleats” was Rodgers’ take on the 49ers’ defense ahead of the September game.

A few more notable numbers:

The Packers went 5-1 against playoff teams, including 5-0 against Rodgers. The 49ers went 5-4 including their win over Dallas.

With Rodgers leading the passer rating lead, the plus-20.5 rating difference ranked the Packers fourth in the league. The 49ers ranked 17th, up-2.5, despite Jimmy Garoppolo completing at least 70 percent of his passes and averaging at least 9.0 yards per attempt in his last three games of the regular season. However, he only had a 67.4 rating against Dallas.

Going 7-2 on the stretch, the 49ers outscored those nine teams by an average plus 11.3. The Niners were third in yardage differential, once contrary to what is believed to be a dangerous team. They ran 169 yards against the Cowboys.

Green Bay was the least penalized team in the NFL, while San Francisco had the worst penalty yardage differential.

The Packers and 49ers shared eight playoff games. Overall, Green Bay leads the series 38-32-1.

The MLB’s 2021 regular season was an unexpected delight for the San Francisco Giants as they won the league’s 107 best games. At the same time, she lost the picture-perfect regular season to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.

With a 2-1 lead in a matchup that struggled to make runs, the Giants couldn’t carry their regular season swing into the postseason. Where do you go from here?

The memory of the defeat to the rival Dodgers will sting the Giants’ believers for the ages. On the other hand, the team has a foundation that should hold them in the NL pennant race for the foreseeable future. Because of this, the Giants are returning to the MLB playoffs in 2022.

The starting shot is the foundation of the San Francisco Giants

D. Ross Cameron-USA TODAY Sports

The standout part of the 2021 Giants was their starting rotation, which dazzled from start to finish.

Manager Gabe Kapler had an alleged provisional rotation as many of the team’s starters had previously struggled to stay on the team and / or were inconsistent. On the contrary, Kevin Gausman, Anthony DeSclafani and Logan Webb led an elite rotation this season.

Kevin Gausman stats (2021): 2.81 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 0.210 batting average opponents, and 227 strikeouts over 192.0 innings (33 starts)

Gausman was one of the best throwers in the MLB. He logged high-rate strikeouts, plunged deep into the games and established himself as the team’s ace, picking up where he left off after an encouraging 2020 season. For most of the season, DeSclafani did an excellent job keeping runners off the ground trails and creating weak contact with his off-speed pitches. The right-handed man got an excellent 3.17 ERA.

Webb had a breakout season on the hill that was highlighted by a 3.03 era. He dragged bats, was efficient and came to his strengths as a power pitcher. Webb was money in the postseason as he only gave up a 14.2 innings (two starts) run against the Dodgers.

These pitchers can only get better, and they now have invaluable postseason experience. Meanwhile, veterans Alex Wood and Johnny Cueto were sturdy contraptions working out of trouble and complimenting the budding arms mentioned above. This combination works for the Giants moving forward.

San Francisco Giants have a well-rounded offensive

D. Ross Cameron-USA TODAY Sports

Yes, the Giants only got 10 runs in the NLDS. However, her offensive in the regular season was a well-oiled machine and can build on the success of 2021. San Francisco finished the regular season second in the MLB in home runs (241), fourth in OPS (0.769), sixth in runs (804) and hits (1,360), and seventh in the batting average (.249 ).

Now Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, and Brandon Belt had all-star seasons. It is unrealistic to expect all three of them to repeat their individual successes as their production in 2021 goes against career trends.

Posey’s batting average gradually declined over the course of the year. Crawford had by far the best season of his MLB career on the record. Belt was usually a respectable hitter, but not someone who knocked on the door of 30 home runs in a single season. Let’s say one of the three repeats their exploits in 2021, another takes a step back, and the other is having a tough season: the Giants should still have a top 10 offensive.

San Francisco’s veterans may step back in production because the team’s outfield, which was once the best the franchise had for itself, is capable of better performance. Mike Yastrzemski strikes clearly and is an electric hitter from the left. Alex Dickerson and Austin Slater are a year away from posting individual OPS above 0.900.

Additionally, the San Francisco Giants’ position depth map is still in shape when Kris Bryant and Donovan Solano leave the Bay Area freehand. LaMonte Wade Jr. and Darin Ruf are threats to power and versatile field players. Wilmer Flores, Mauricio Dubon and Thairo Estrada often bring the ball into play.

San Francisco Giants have a playoff squad

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

In all likelihood, the Giants won’t win 107 games or crack 100 wins next season. You may not even win the NL West as the Dodgers continue to dominate and the San Diego Padres have the talent to win the World Series; You’re a mystery, but one that can compete for the pennant if they get back on track.

At the end of the day, however, the Padres were 28 games worse than the Giants, and the latter lost a grueling streak to a team they knew well at the Dodgers; San Francisco can beat anyone in the NL. The ups and downs of NL Central and the inability of NL East further increase the Giants’ chances of hitting at least one of the two NL Wild Card seeds.

Kapler and friends have a balanced offensive that is accompanied by a dynamite rotation and a deep bullpen with a mix of proven and evolving weapons. This aspect of their ball club was also one of the sport’s elite units. In short, the Giants are basically good at all aspects of the game (hitting, fielding, pitching, and bullpening).

Nothing can be taken for granted, but the Giants are a surefire way to return to the playoffs. You have some margin for error and a team built for October.

The Overwatch League had to cancel its live playoffs in Dallas and its live final in LA this week in response to worsening COVID conditions and related visa challenges for APAC teams. The move has sparked some violent reactions, with some professionals expressing disappointment while others expressing anger over the change and how the postseason will continue to be dealt with.

Here are some of the most notable reactions we saw when the Overwatch League switched the postseason to an online format with NA teams playing out of Hawaii.

OWL players are responding to playoffs being moved to Hawaii and played online

The most common reaction to the announcement has been disappointment and sadness from many players, including Gladiators player Shu, Houston Outlaws player Crimzo, and former pro McGravy, who all looked forward to the NA-based LAN events.

Some players, overcoming disappointment, criticized OWL’s plan to host NA teams in Hawaii during the postseason. San Francisco Shock player Nero stated that NA will be at a “massive disadvantage” in response to the decision, although he admitted that nothing could be done about it.

Houston Outlaws player Danteh expressed his frustration with “jet lag + lost practice time + worn setups aghhhhhhhhhhhhhh”.

Perhaps most controversial is that Atlanta Reign’s Gator posted numerous tweets about the situation. First, on his own side, he said, “What a joke, they can’t get one thing right”. He also responded to the Overwatch League announcement by saying, “Make a right decision.”

Both comments sparked some backlash from OWL fans and journalists. In response to the backlash, Gator went on to state that he is not upset about the cancellation of live events due to COVID, but he is upset that the Overwatch League playoffs will be played online rather than on the LAN and that 5 NA teams will do so be forced to travel to Hawaii again.

In a tweet, Gator suggested that it would be preferable for both regions to play separate playoffs and then, after being quarantined, host a single final somewhere on the LAN, as they did in 2020. He also pointed out that due to Pelican’s lung collapse, he will not be able to compete now that the final is in Hawaii because Pelican, an MVP contestant and star DPS player for Reign, cannot travel due to his illness.

Gator’s teammate Masaa responded with a much less tactful response, just a video of someone laughing hysterically to show his disapproval of the Overwatch League’s post-season plans.

Even if the cancellation of the live events was necessary, it is clear that the players are not happy with the situation and the reputation of the OWL 2021 postseason may be damaged a bit.

Durant, who played his second game after returning from a hamstring injury, added 10 rebounds in 33 minutes for his eighth double-double.

“Just for all the adversity we went through this year with injuries, logs, trading situations and guys in and out of the lineup, I’m very proud of everyone in the organization from top to bottom,” said Durant.

Kyrie Irving finished the race with nine points, six rebounds and four assists. Seven other nets scored double digits on the night Brooklyn became the first Eastern Conference team to occupy a playoff spot.

The Nets won for the third straight and fourth time in five games to keep Toronto from finishing the season run.

Luka Doncic surpassed Stephen Curry for the first time in five direct duels of his career and Dallas scored 28 consecutive points bridging the first and second quarters as the Mavericks beat the Golden State Warriors 133-103.

The blowout was Dallas’ third in a row in the two-year history of the San Francisco Chase Center.

The Mavericks, who have never lost in the building, flashed the Warriors by 20 and 27 points last season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder prevented a franchise record of 15 games with a 119-115 win over the Boston Celtics, while the Milwaukee Bucks fought off the Charlotte Hornets 114-104 to avoid a rash in the team’s regular season series

The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Houston Rockets 114-107 for their third straight win.
