SAN FRANCISCO — The rain came, the Giants rallied, but nothing could delay the inevitable.

A collection of empty seats, rain coats and umbrellas braved the brisk and blustery conditions at Oracle Park on Sunday to watch the Giants set a regrettable franchise record, losing to the Dodgers, 4-3 in 10 innings, for the 15th time this season.

After winning 10 of their 19 meetings in 2021 and outlasting Los Angeles by one game to claim the NL West, the Giants finished this season with a worse record against their rivals than any of their 63 previous seasons in San Francisco.

In the 139-year history of the Giants, dating back to the club’s inception in New York, they have finished only one other season — 1899, when they went 2-10 — with a worse winning percentage against the Dodgers than their 4-15 (.211) record this year. Their 15 losses to LA also set a San Francisco-era record, and the 32.5 games separating the two clubs would represent the Giants’ third-furthest finish from first place since moving here in 1958.

With the exception of San Francisco’s three-game sweep here in June, there has been no debate about the better ballclub. The Dodgers won 15 of their other 16 meetings, including 13 of their final 14 to close the season. The final tally on the scoreboard: Dodgers 99, Giants 55.

Limited to five runs on 13 hits over the course of the three-game series, the Giants at least showed life in the eighth, tying the game on a ground-rule double by JD Davis but left the bases loaded for the second time of the night. Davis’ ball bouncing over the wall prevented Thairo Estrada from scoring the go-ahead run from first base, the same fate that happened on Wilmer Flores’ ground-rule double in the fourth, when the Giants also left ’em loaded.

The wind was blowing in so strongly from right-center field that a would-be game-winning home run off the bat of Joc Pederson with two on in the 10th was turned in to a 396-foot flyout, blown in by 21 feet, according to Weather Applied, which tracks the impact of wind conditions at ballparks.

When the wind was blowing more and the rain coming down harder as the game started, Los Angeles leadoff man Trea Trea Turner’s fly ball on the first pitch of the game was blown in 58 feet.

Neither the miserable conditions nor the 20-minute delay caused by them fazed Giants starter Alex Cobb, who has a 1.57 ERA over his past five starts and kept up his strong stretch of pitching Sunday. Cobb limited the dangerous Dodgers lineup to two runs — a leadoff walk and a leadoff double that came around to score — over 5⅓ innings.

San Francisco’s bullpen blanked the Dodgers for the rest of regulation, but Mookie Betts doubled home the automatic runner in the top of the 10th and Thomas Szapucki forced home an insurance run with a bases-loaded walk. The two-run cushion proved too much in the bottom half for the Giants, who got an RBI single from Flores, a couple walks and a couple close-call fly balls but nothing else.

Some three hours earlier, at about 5:10 pm, Justin Turner doubled home Freddie Freeman for the Dodgers’ first run. At 5:40, Cobb retired the final out of the fourth inning. It wasn’t particularly strenuous, as you might expect from a 30-minute inning, but rather interrupted by one of the intermittent downpours over Oracle Park on Sunday.

The delay came with two outs in the top of the fourth and lasted 20 minutes.

Rookie outfielder Heliot Ramos, manning right field in his second game since being called up from Triple-A, had maybe the most intimate interactions with the conditions Sunday afternoon.

Turner hit a fly ball to right field on the first pitch of the game that appeared to be on a trajectory for McCovey Cove, or at least Levi’s Landing. But it ran into a wall of wind that knocked it down, turning it into a single one that fell in front of Ramos, who had taken his first few steps toward the wall.

Turner’s single ultimately traveled 327 feet, according to Statcast. But it was blown in by 58 feet, more than any other fly ball in the history of Oracle Park, according to Weather Applied, which tracks the impact of wind conditions at ballparks.

Recording the second out of the fourth — the final play before the game went into delay — Ramos tracked down another fly ball from Trayce Thompson but lost his footing on the wet grass while trying to throw back to the infield.

The slick ground, however, didn’t prevent Ramos from robbing Turner of extra bases and an RBI to end the third inning.

For a change, Cobb benefitted from the defense behind him. At one point this season, the difference between his actual ERA and his expected ERA was the largest in the majors, and the figures are still separated by almost half a run.

With Betts getting a running start at first base, after Cobb issued a two-out walk, Ramos sprinted from his spot in shallow right field and made a leaping grab to chase down a line drive from Turner that appeared destined for Triples Alley.

It didn’t take long for Turner to get his revenge, though, doubling to lead off the sixth and coming home to score the Dodgers’ second run on a single by Freeman.

A traveling exhibit that invokes the history of repression of Blacks in the United States arrived in Oakland for this week’s installation at Frank Ogawa Plaza.

Support Oakland Artists, an Oakland based 501(C)3, partnered with Society’s Cage to bring the acclaimed social justice art installation as a feature in front of Oakland City Hall from May 9-30, 2022.

Society’s Cage is an open air, accessible pavilion featuring 500 hanging steel bars that form a cavernous cube with a habitable void allowing visitors to experience the symbolic weight of institutional racism.

This immersive experience offers the opportunity to consider the severity of racial biases within our institutional structures of justice and allows for moments of reflection and healing.

The designers, Dayton Schroeter, Julian Arrington, Monteil Crawley and Ivan O’Garro, created the installation to contextualize the contemporary phenomenon of police killings of Black Americans within the 400+ year continuum of racialized state violence in the United States.

It is a data-driven installation shaped in response to the question “What is the value of Black life in America?”

The Oakland installation will be the first on the West Coast as it travels nationally to sites of symbolic power related to justice, freedom & democracy. Originating in Washington, DC on the National Mall in response to the 2020 murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, Society’s Cage has continued its journey as an interpretive lens highlighting the historic forces of racialized state violence in the United States.

Other sites have included War Memorial Plaza in Baltimore, Maryland, and the site of the Vernon AME Chapel in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race massacre and destruction of the Greenwood District, known as Black Wall Street.

Oakland is an ideal host site for the installation as the home of the Black Panther Party, which was founded to combat the legacy of police oppression, inequitable incarceration practices, and remnants of slavery in the form of state-sponsored terrorism against Black people.

In 2009, the killing of Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old, unarmed Black transit rider by the BART police in Oakland set off local and regionally organized protests that catalyzed a national movement.

“We were inspired to create the installation as a response to the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor,” explains Dayton Schroeter, lead designer of Society’s Cage and design director at SmithGroup, which has offices in San Francisco. “The pavilion is a real and raw reflection of the conversations about racism happening now. It’s a physical manifestation of the institutional structures that have undermined the progress of Black Americans over the history of this country.

“The name Society’s Cage refers to the societal constraints that limit the prosperity of the Black community,” says Julian Arrington, who led the design with Schroeter, and is an associate at SmithGroup. “The pavilion creates an experience to help visitors understand and acknowledge these impacts of racism and be moved to create change.”

“It only took an instant for me to commit to this project,” said Randolph Belle, executive director of Support Oakland Artists. “In my over 30 years in Oakland as an artist and community developer, I’ve strived to utilize the arts to engage the public in thoughtful ways around important and timely topics. This project, this site, and these times are an unprecedented example of that.”

Visitors are encouraged to participate in a shared experience upon entering the pavilion. After holding their breath for as long as they can, evoking the common plea among victims of police killings, “I can’t breathe,” visitors then post a video reflection of their experience on social media using the hashtag #SocietysCage. This exercise is meant not only to build empathy but expand the installation’s impact online to allow anyone to participate in this shared exercise.

The pavilion was fabricated by Gronning Design + Manufacturing LLC in Washington, DC, and Mejia Ironworks in Hyattsville, Maryland. A soundscape was commissioned from a pair of composers, Raney Antoine Jr. and Lovell “UP” Cooper.

Composed of four pieces, each eight minutes and 46 seconds in length in recognition of the time George Floyd suffered under the knee of police, they are themed to reflect each of the four institutional forces that sculpted the pavilion’s interior — mass incarceration, police terrorism, capital punishment and racist lynchings.

Early sponsors who have made the hosting of the Society’s Cage Oakland installation possible include the Akonadi Foundation, Tarbell Family Foundation, individual sponsors including principals from SmithGroup’s San Francisco office, corporate sponsorship including SmithGroup and many community partners including BIG Oakland.

Jeremy Crandall and Emax Exhibits were the Oakland Installation team.

A public unveiling is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 11 am, and a programmed event featuring local cultural artists is scheduled for Sunday, May 29, 2022, at 7 pm Participating individuals and organizations include original members of the Black Panther Party , the Black Cultural Zone, HipHopTV, and a host of local artists.

For more information, visit www.societyscage.com to find a link to the donation site. Additional donations will assist with programming and documentation related to the Oakland activation.

Randolph Belle is the executive director of Support Oakland Artists and RBA Creative studio in Oakland.

Lane Thomas led off on Saturday, after he’d hit mostly 6th or 7th in the Nationals’ lineup over the first few weeks of the 2022 campaign, and Washington skipper Davey Martinez moved César Hernández, who’d led off in each of the 16 games he’d played in early this season, to sixth.

“I just wanted to see if we could jumpstart Lane a little bit,” Martinez said when asked about the moves after the club’s 5-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants. “[Thomas] did well for us in the leadoff spot [in 2021]and also too when I talked to Cesar last night [we talked] about letting him relax a little bit and not trying to put so much pressure on him trying to get on base, and just swing the bat. And he did well today, they both did well, so we’ll see what happens tomorrow. I know we got a right-handed pitcher against us, I’m going to look at everything tonight, and then make a decision how we’re going to do that tomorrow.”

Hernández’s 2 for 4 game left him 17 for 73 (.233/.263/.274) so fat this season. Thomas went 1 for 4 with an RBI in the loss, leaving him 9 for 46 (.196/.255/.261) on the year.

Was the experiment on one-time thing, or a change Martinez will stick with for a while to try something new to spark Thomas, Hernández, and the lineup as a whole?

“We might do that,” he said. “Look, Lane hits left-handed pitchers really well, so it was nice to get him up there against the lefties and see if we can get two cracks at them, so I liked it. He hit a couple balls hard today so we’ll see what happens moving forward.”

Thomas’s hit, at the top of the order, was the only one for the Nationals’ first four+ hitters.

Thomas, Juan Soto, Nelson Cruz, and Josh Bell (who was injured and replaced by Lucius Fox early in the game) were a combined 1 for 15 in the loss. How do they turn it around?

“I think we need to just start relaxing … stay up the middle of the field. These guys are going to hit,” Martinez said. “These guys have hit their whole career, they’re going to hit, just don’t try to do too much, stay in the zone, and take your walks. I preach all the time, ‘Hey, take your walks, get on base for the next guy. Don’t chase.’ So, but I got all the confidence in the world that those guys will hit. If we continue to do what we’re doing in the bottom part of our lineup, we’re getting on base, I like that, so it’s just a matter of time before the whole lineup starts clicking, and we start scoring runs again. ”

As for Bell’s injury?

“He’s got right hamstring tightness, so we took him out,” the manager explained.

“He went to get an MRI and we’re waiting for him to get back with the results. I wanted to be cautious. With the other leg, with his knee.”

Bell is not in the lineup today. Maikel Franco is getting the start at first…

  ASSOCIATED PRESS

The San Francisco 49ers added their one big-ticket item in free agency early during the process, signing Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Charvarius Ward to a three-year, $40.5 million contract.

This addressed a major area of need for general manager John Lynch and Co. However, some fans have been thrown off by San Francisco’s lack of urgency in free agency despite the team not having a ton of cap room.

With high-priced quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo still on the books, these 49ers used their limited financial assets to upgrade a troubled area — special teams.

That includes bringing in three core special teams players in linebacker Oren Burks, wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud and safety George Odum on team-friendly deals.

For San Francisco, it’s all about upgrading a special teams unit that struggled big time a season ago before coming through in the team’s NFC Divisional Playoff win over the Green Bay Packers. Below, I look at what these three moves mean for the 49ers moving forward.

MORE FROM FORBESBreaking Down San Francisco 49ers’ Decision To Hire Brian Griese As Next Quarterbacks Coachby Vincent Frank

Ray-Ray McCloud Gives San Francisco 49ers Legit Return Threat

San Francisco 49ers added Ray-Ray McCloud to return kicks and play slot. (AP Photo/Don Wright)

  ASSOCIATED PRESS

Throughout pretty much the duration of Kyle Shanahan’s five-year tenure in San Francisco, this team has not had a reliable return man. In fact, it had to use Brandon Aiyuk on punt returns last season.

McCloud, 25, changes this big time. The former Buffalo Bills’sixth-round pick out of Clemson led the NFL in punt returns (38) and return yards (367) a season ago. He averaged a healthy 9.7 yards per return. Meanwhile, the speedy 5-foot-9 wide receiver added 776 kick return yards for an average of 22.2 per. For comparison’s sake, the 49ers tallied a total of 279 punt return yards a season ago.

In an interesting turn, McCloud also played in 48% of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive snaps in 2021. He recorded 39 receptions for 277 yards whle catching 59% of his targets. The expectation is that he will see time in the slot with the 49ers pretty thin at wide receiver right now. McCloud’s deal is for two years and worth up to $10.4 million.

San Francisco 49ers add Indianapolis Colts All-Pro Safety George Odum

San Francisco 49ers signed George Odum for special teams and to be backup safety. (AP Photo/Eric … [+] Christian Smith)

  ASSOCIATED PRESS

An undrafted free agent of the Colts out of Central Arkanas back in 2018, Odum was highly-respected wthin their locker room. He also took on a much larger role on defense last season, starting seven games at safety.

While the 49ers might rely on Odum to play strong safety at times in 2022, his meal ticket is special teams. That included the 28-year-old earning All-Pro honors back in 2020. According to Pro Football Focus, he recorded the second-highest special teams grade that year. He’ll act as a gunner under new special teams coach Brian Schneider following the firing of Richard Hightower.

In terms of what Odum brings on defense, he’ll be the fourth safety behind Jimmie Ward, Talanoa Hufanga and Tarvarius Moore — likely signaling the end of Jaquiski Tartt’s career in San Francisco. Last season saw Odum record 55 tackles, two passes defended and an interception. He also yielded three passing touchdowns and a substandard 122.9 QB rating when targeted. Odum’s deal comes in at $10.95 million over three years.

Oren Burks Provides San Francisco 49ers With Depth And A Special Teams Ace

San Francisco 49ers brought in Oren Burks for depth. (AP Photo/Darryl Webb)

  ASSOCIATED PRESS

A third-round pick of the Green Bay Packers out of Vanderbilt back in 2018, Burks never panned out in Wisconsin. The soon-to-be 27-year-old linebacker recorded a total of 92 tackles on defense while starting seven games in four seasons.

However, this deal is more about what Burks brings to the 49ers’ special teams unit.

“Special teams throughout my career, that’s been something I can hang my hat on. And kind of got some notice around the league for that,” Burks told reporters during his introductory press conference.

Last season saw Burks play in 75% of Green Bay’s special teams snaps. He led the Packers in special teams tackles during his time with the team. Burks will also serve as a reserve linebacker, joining a group headed by the likes of Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw and Azeez Al-Shaair. His deal is said to come in at $5 million over two years.

Where do the San Francisco 49ers stand with Jimmy Garoppolo? (AP Photo/Elaine Thompson)

  ASSOCIATED PRESS

The San Francisco 49ers figured to move off longtime starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo before NFL free agency even started last week.

Both the 49ers and Garoppolo admitted immediately following San Francisco’s NFC Championship Game loss to the Los Angeles Rams that his time in Northern Calfornia was coming to an end.

Now, nearly a year after San Francisco traded up in the 2021 NFL Draft to draft Garoppolo’s heir-apparent, his situation is more complicated.

To be clear. Trey Lance will be the 49ers’ Week 1 starter once the 2022 season comes calling. Garoppolo will not be on the roster.

With that said, we’re now entering the second week of NFL free agency and Garoppolo remains on the 49ers’ books with a cap hit of $26.95 million. It has impacted their ability to be big-time players during free agency with one high-priced signing and multiple lower-level deals.

Now that the likes of fellow quarterbacks such as Russell Wilson, Carson Wentz and Dashaun Watson have been traded, the market for Garoppolo’s services has shrunk. With Baker Mayfield firmly on the block, too, it could shrink even more. Below, I look at where we are at in the entire Garoppolo saga with the 49ers.

Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Market

Deshaun Watson trade complicates Jimmy Garoppolo’s market. (AP Photo/Eric Christian Smith, File)

  ASSOCIATED PRESS

Previously linked to Garoppolo, a number of teams have found their new starting quarterbacks. That includes Russell Wilson heading to the Denver Broncos, the Cleveland Browns pulling off a blockbuster trade for Deshaun Watson and the Washington Commanders adding Carson Wentz to the mix.

If we conclude San Francisco is not going to trade Garoppolo to the division rival Seattle Seahawks, there’s less than a handful of teams that make sense for the Super Bowl quarterback.

The Indianapolis Colts remain very much in the market for Garoppolo and had trade discussions with San Francisco about the veteran during the NFL Scouting Combine. It’s also important to note that Colts general manager Chris Ballard has dealt with San Francisco’s front office recently. That included the 49ers trading star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to Indy following the 2019 season.

However, things are complicated here due to Mayfield’s presence on the trade market after Cleveland traded for Deshaun Watson on Saturday. Having requested a trade prior to that blockbuster, Mayfield is not in a position to dictate where he goes.

With that said, it’s being reported that he prefers the Colts — further complicating San Francisco’s ability to trade Garoppolo. The Seattle Seahawks are also firmly in the mix for Mayfield and have had internal conversations about acquiring him after sending Wilson to the Broncos. Could Seattle use some of the bounty it received from Denver to entice the Browns in a trade? This would be the best-case scenario for San Francisco, setting the stage for a Garoppolo trade to Indianapolis.

MORE FROM FORBESSan Francisco 49ers on the Forbes NFL Team Valuations List

There’s also two NFC South teams (and potentially a third squad) in the market for a new quarterback.

The Carolina Panthers struck out in their attempt to acquire the aforementioned Watson. They now have to make a choice between selecting a rookie quarterback in the top-10 of the 2022 NFL Draft or biting the bullet on a Garoppolo trade. After all, the Panthers’ brass has made it clear that Sam Darnold is not the answer under center following his disastrous first season in Charlotte.

Also in a Watson trade, the New Orleans Saints find themselves in an unenviable position in the post-Sean Payton era. Taysom Hill is the only in-house candidate to take over under center. However, the Saints do have interest in re-signing Jameis Winston after he suffered a torn ACL last season. Will Winston’s familiarity with offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael’s scheme play a role in the Saints’ decision-making process? San Francisco hopes not.

As for the other AFC South team, the Atlanta Falcons were close to finalizing a deal for Watson before Cleveland came through to offer him a fully guaranteed $230 million contract.

While Atlanta kept veteran quarterback Matt Ryan in the mix behind the scenes, there’s a decent chance the former NFL MVP will ultimately request a trade. Likely wanting to join a contender, his market might be impacted. Perhaps, the Seahawks or Colts show interest.

Either way, it’s hard to imagine the Falcons turning around and acquiring Garoppolo should they be forced to trade Ryan. In this scenario, Arthur Blank’s team might just opt to go into full-scale rebuild mode.

Timeline And Details Of A Potential Jimmy Garoppolo Trade

Jimmy Garoppolo traded to the Carolina Panthers could make sense. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)

  Getty Images

From San Francisco’s perspective, the sooner the better. There’s absolutely no reason for this to draw on any further. Realistically, it would be a nightmare scenario if a trade is not finalized before the 2022 NFL Draft late next month. In fact, the 49ers want some sort of resolution within the week.

Any thought given to the idea that this will still remain unsettled come summer time an training camp is laughable.

There’s a few reasons for this. The 49ers currently find themselves $7.74 million under the cap. Garoppolo’s $26.95 million cap hit is still on the books. Ridding them of that figure would help the 49ers’ brass add to other areas of need before the NFL free agent market thins out even more.

San Francisco has needs at wide receiver, guard, edge pass rush and cornerback — needs it will not be able to address in a wholesale manner during the 2022 NFL Draft without a first-round pick.

For example, the 49ers have been linked to former New England Patriots All-Pro cornerback Stephen Gilmore. His going rate will be north of $12 million annually. Even after signing fellow cornerback Charvarius Ward, San Francisco still has interest in Gilmore. It will not be able to finalize a deal until Garoppolo is off the team’s books.

MORE FROM FORBESSan Francisco 49ers Sign Charvarius Ward: Financial Impact And More Informationby Vincent Frank

Recently-released former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Julio Jones is also someone the 49ers’ brass figures to have interest in given his relationship with head coach Kyle Shanahan dating back to their time together with the Atlanta Falcons. In short, moving Garoppolo should be San Francisco’s next big move.

The question then becomes what a trade might look like. Let’s take the Carolina Panthers out of the group above and focus on that initially. Carolina finds itself $31.79 million under the cap. It could easily take on Garoppolo’s contract without blinking an eye from a financial perspective. At issue here is Darnold’s presence and $18.86 million cap hit. Will general manager Scott Fitterer want to dole out north of $43 million in cap room to two marginal quarterbacks?

As with any potential trade, there’s other avenues to pursue. San Francisco could agree to take on Darnold as a backup to Lance. In the process, it demands more in return by picking up some of his $18.86 million cap hit. That is to say, demanding the Panthers up the ante by agreeing to pay out half of it. In this scenario, the 49ers add more draft capital.

It’s also not a secret that Carolina has injury-plagued All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey on the trade block. His value has decreased big time with the former Stanford star having played a total of 10 games over the past two seasons.

Perhaps, the 49ers opt to take a chance that McCaffrey’s injuries are behind him while adding the dynamic threat to Kyle Shanahan’s offense. At full strength, he’d be a perfect fit. After losing Raheem Mostert to the Miami Dolphins, running back also remains a need for the 49ers.

With a base salary of $8.4 million, the 49ers would be able to take on McCaffrey’s cap hit while adding other pieces in free agency. This scenario would also include Carolina sending some draft capital to Northern California.

MORE FROM FORBESBreaking Down San Francisco 49ers’ Decision To Hire Brian Griese As Next Quarterbacks Coachby Vincent Frank

Things get less complicated when it comes to the Colts and Saints. Both have the cap room to add Garoppolo to the mix without having to trade away a quarterback contract. Indianapolis could offer up its second-round pick and change for Jimmy GQ. The same thing could be said about New Orleans.

As it is, this is a situation the 49ers need to settle in short order. It has handcuffed them during NFL free agency. By trading Garoppolo, San Francisco would then be able to focus on adding more veterans to the mix before turning its attention to the 2022 NFL Draft as well as extending Deebo Samuel and Nick Bosa.

Right now, things are in a holding pattern. And in reality, that’s not a great look.

The series was given a writers’ room in August 2021 in the hope that anything the writers could come up with could go straight into a series order. That was the case here too, and “The Lives of the Mayfair Witches” received an eight-episode commission for its first season. The series is the second in an expanded Anne Rice universe, as the series “Vampire Chronicles” received the green light in June 2021 and had its protagonist, the vampire Lestat, occupied by August.

The series was written by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford, best known for their work on the Showtime drama “Masters of Sex”. Spalding will act as the show runner for the series under her overall contract with AMC Studios.

Spalding and Ashford shared their excitement with Deadline, explaining their solidarity with the franchise:

“The world of witches has fascinated and terrified for centuries, and yet Anne Rice’s particular focus on witches has explored something entirely new – women who are powerful, often brutal, and always determined to undermine our current power structures. We are very excited to be helping our partners AMC and Gran Via Productions to bring this mysterious and provocative world to life. ”

The women in Rice’s world are indeed wild creatures, whether they are witches, vampires, or common people caught up in supernatural nonsense. Hopefully the series will be good enough to be an adaptation of Rice’s seventh “Vampire Chronicles” book, “Merrick,” which follows a forgotten daughter of the Mayfair witches who falls in love with the eternal vampire sad boy Louis de Pointe du Lac. Louis is the narrator of Interview with the Vampire and is played by Brad Pitt in the 1994 film adaptation. Their romance is truly one of star-crossed lovers destined for tragedy.

“The Vampire Chronicles” should appear at the end of 2022, shortly afterwards “The Lives of the Mayfair Witches” should follow.

LIVE: Follow the rain with Live Doppler 7

“We are following a very wet week ahead of us. We had a storm movement late on Sunday night – that is now pushing east,” said Tuma. “The bigger picture? We’re quickly tracking our next storm on the horizon. That cold front will move in a series of storms from Tuesday night through Wednesday.”

Tuma’s AccuWeather forecast shows rain and light showers in the area for the next six days.

On Tuesday, the Bay Area will hit a 1 on the storm exposure scale, followed by more rain on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Bay Area 2 will be on the Storm Impact Scale by Sunday.

“Most of this rain will likely fall from Friday to Sunday. These are sums that we usually see in the middle of winter. If those numbers come into play, it would end our fire season, ”Tuma tweeted.

Here an atmospheric river could flow through the Bay Area

Tuma, who has been following the wet weather hour by hour, says the next storm is expected around 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The strongest storm is expected to hit the region over the weekend with downpours and gusty winds, added Tuma.

booking Major League Baseball Future bets can be quite a balancing act in the last week of the regular season.

As teams battle for a position or actual berth in the postseason, bettors look for the betting value on teams they believe may have a chance to race for a pennant or World Series title.

“I like the Blue Jays when they come in!” will announce your buddy.

With four teams battling for two wildcard spots in the American League in the past few days, the numbers race gets even more hectic.

“We only have a handful of games left for each team,” said Chris Bennett, sports betting manager for Circa Sports. “If all the playoff teams were decided at this point, I would probably book the World Series and the Pennants at a slightly lower theoretical hold percentage than I am currently. I have to put in a bit of push-in because of” this uncertainty, since it is currently there are more than 10 teams that could reach the playoffs. So that’s part of what I do to protect myself. “

“So late in the season I have to watch the games go on. I check the results on my phone or at home on my computer. So if the Blue Jays look like they’re going to beat the Yankees” Tonight I might want to make a move before the game even ends to advance. “

The checks and balances don’t stop until the field is virtually complete.

Top 10 Teams Most Likely to Win the World Series, by FOX Betting Odds *:
Dodgers: +320 (wager $ 10 for a total of $ 42)
Astros: +475 (wager $ 10 to win a total of $ 57.50)
Rays: +600 (wager $ 10 to win a total of $ 70)
Giants: +650 (wager $ 10 to win a total of $ 75)
White Sox: +800 (wager $ 10 to win a total of $ 90)
Brewers: +850 (wager $ 10 to win a total of $ 95)
Yankees: +1200 (wager $ 10 to win a total of $ 130)
Braves: +1400 (wager $ 10 for a total of $ 150)
Cardinals: +2200 (bet $ 10 to win a total of $ 230)
Red Sox +2200 (bet $ 10 to win a total of $ 230)

* Odds as of 9/30/2021 at 5:00 p.m. ET

“If it’s Saturday or Sunday and one team is about to be eliminated, I only have odds on both teams as if they both won, so it doesn’t matter,” said Bennett.

“It’s a balancing act. I would hate to do a future book that didn’t make me feel good about the opportunities we were offering or that we weren’t very competitive in the market place. It definitely is a challenge.”

Shifting future numbers every day is just a small piece of a big cake. Most sports betting has future liabilities that have accumulated over weeks or months and no liability is the same. It all depends on the positions a baseball bookmaker like Bennett held against a particular team at any given time.

After all, prices are almost always different in every store. One sports betting company could fight the Yankees to win the World Series while another could cry badly when a team like the Brewers wins it all because of an avalanche of money written in the first few months. It all depends.

“The Giants are the worst result for us in the World Series market, but the Cardinals have gotten pretty bad too,” said Bennett. “They’re probably about as bad. San Francisco has exceeded expectations from the start and St. Louis has just had this crazy winning streak. The Cardinals had very good chances three weeks ago and now they’re in the playoffs.

“We have some customers who have some obscenely good bets on this year’s Cardinals,” added Bennett. “We make fair numbers and sometimes it goes like this. It’s baseball. All you have to do is make it, and you have a legitimate chance of winning a championship. It’s not like the NBA. There are too much variance and “chance” in baseball.

“The good news is that only one of them can move up to the NLCS so I’ll be able to work with it a bit. I’m not entirely happy with our positions, but it’s not that they’re on a collision course.” meet deep in the playoffs. “

This recent Cardinals run reminded Bennett of a similar situation 10 years ago. It’s a different déjà vu this time though, as he was on the other side of the counter for that scorching St. Louis finish.

“In 2011 the Cardinals beat Rangers in the World Series,” recalls Bennett. “I remember it vividly from betting on it. It was the longest shot I’d ever hit in my sports betting life. They won the World Series by 250 to 1 and the World Series by 125 to 1 pennant by about eight or nine games remaining in the regular season.

“They were thought dead. They were a few games behind the Braves, but the Braves only had one epic breakdown at the end of the season and the Cardinals got in. They kept winning and the Braves kept losing. And the rest is history.”

Speaking of history, there’s no rivalry more famous among the majors than the Boston Red Sox versus the New York Yankees. And there’s a good chance the two longtime rivals will meet in a do-or-die tilt early next week to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the divisional round.

Bennett said that Sox (+2200 to win the World Series on FOX Bet, so a $ 10 bet would win a total of $ 230) versus Yanks (+1200 on FOX Bet; bet $ 10, to win a total of $ 130) the best one-of-a-kind would be for handle.

“That’s a pretty good situation because it’s a showcase event this Tuesday,” said Bennett. “And if it’s Gerrit Cole versus Chris Sale, they’re two of the best pitchers in baseball, so it’s even more convincing. This matchup would be a lot of action because people love to bet big games with big names.”

I asked Bennett about the uniqueness of baseball playoff betting because I couldn’t quite tell. In professional basketball, bettors love the zigzag theory. In March Madness, people love outsiders who can win straight away. Hockey is all about the hot goalkeeper. Rely on Tom Brady in professional football.

So what’s unique about playoff baseball?

“One thing that I think about right away is that people really want to be ‘under’ in these playoff games,” said Bennett. “They usually have the best pitchers and for certain teams in the Midwest and Northeast it is October so the weather is cold and the shooting conditions are not the best.

“There was a World Series game between the Royals and the Mets in New York,” recalls Bennett. “The Mets had great pitching and the Royals had a great bullpen. The total was 6 and the Unders were -120 or so.

“The market sometimes goes overboard and just hits the ‘under’. Some people just don’t want to go ‘over’ in playoff games with good pitchers. I think the market is pretty strong so you can’t just play these games blindly betting ‘over’, but that’s one thing that has been a consistent trend over the years – people’s desire to bet ‘under’. “

Earlier in this column, I mentioned that baseball bettors are looking for a team that could potentially take a run. You’ve probably been waiting for advice on this. Luckily for you, I asked Bennett.

He knows these teams and their relative worth better than anyone.

“The Rays (+600 at FOX Bet) and the Brewers (+850 at FOX Bet) are easily underestimated,” said Bennett. “Tampa Bay doesn’t have the starting pitcher people love, but they’re just so good they can thrive without Tyler Glasnow. Their line-up is real top-down, good defense. Good base run.

“The Brewers have three really, really good starting mugs. It’s kind of prototypical playoff team building. If these guys can line up and develop their potential, they’re dangerous. You saw when Milwaukee faced the Giants last month how much the market respects the Brewers. “

That is true even after Devin Williams hit a wall and most likely made himself unavailable for the postseason; for Bennett it’s more about Milwaukee’s Pitching Big Three:

“As good as the Giants (+650 at FOX Bet) were and all that, those single series of games told you that the Brewers might be better. If they can get Burnes and Woodruff and Peralta all in line, watch out. The way could work well for the Brewers. “
