The strong winds that blew through the Bay Area on Jan. 21 and 22, causing property damage and power outages throughout the region, look to be returning this week.

The National Weather Service issued an advisory Monday morning that northerly gusts from the offshore wind event coming Tuesday and Wednesday will effect most of the Bay Area, and winds could reach over 70 mph in the North Bay mountains.

“Models are suggesting that this event may be similar to our recent event on January 21-22,” the NWS said in a news release.

That wind event saw gusts over 60 mph on Mount Hamilton and Mount Diablo, and a staggering 96 mph in the Healdsburg Hills. In the East Bay, the storm downed trees and power lines and knocked out power for many.

“At this point, it looks as though Tuesday and Wednesday will be the strongest days with a focus on the interior mountains of the North Bay,” the NWS said in the advisory.

The alert effects the entire Bay Area and Santa Cruz mountains with the exception of the Santa Clara Valley.

“Good idea to secure outdoor objects, don’t park under trees & prepare for power outages,” ABC7 meteorologist Drew Tuma said in a tweet Monday morning, sharing the warning.

The NWS says the wind event is likely to occur from late tonight until early Thursday (Feb. 3) and will potentially down trees, knock out power and create hazardous driving conditions.

A large storm system is moving through the west, bringing strong winds, heavy rains and white snow conditions from Monday night to Tuesday. The storm is expected to move east from Wednesday.

Parts of the California coast saw more than 9 inches of rain and feet of snow in the mountains on Monday, where whiteout weather conditions closed Interstate 80 from California to Nevada overnight.

California was hit by gusty winds at speeds of 80 to 80 miles per hour, which caused damage.

Heavy clouds will move over downtown Los Angeles on December 13, 2021.

Record rainfall was reported at the San Francisco airport. The area received more than 3 inches of rain, which resulted in flooding in some parts of the bay.

Rock and mudslides have been reported in Northern California due to the rain.

The storm moves through southern California on Tuesday with a strong risk of rain, mud and debris flow.

Flood monitoring is in place in areas north of Los Angeles where mudslides and debris flows could occur. In Southern California, 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected in a short time.

California and the Rockies could see between 1 and 5 feet more snow in the next 48 hours.

The storm is moving to the central south and Ohio Valley, delivering heavy rains and heavy storms on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Severe storms could hit Iowa and Minnesota on Wednesday, with noxious winds and a risk of tornado.

On Thursday, the storm system will penetrate the Ohio Valley and the central part of the south. From Kentucky to Tennessee, Arkansas and North Texas, strong to potentially severe storms and heavy rain are possible on Thursday nights. The areas could see between 1 to 3 inches of rain.

SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) – Record-breaking investments and large commercial office businesses are still being made in Silicon Valley, although many of the large office buildings are still vacant during the pandemic.

“We made the largest office rentals of the year in the United States and the largest investment sales of the year in the United States in a week in Silicon Valley,” said Mark Ritchie of Ritchie Commercial in San Jose.

In one of its most recent major office deals, a British investment company was paying a record San Jose per square foot price for three office buildings on Coleman Avenue in North San Jose.

“It just shows the incredible global interest in investing in Silicon Valley to buy the office space for the tech companies in anticipation of the return to work after COVID,” said Ritchie.

But in some parts of downtown San Jose, the only sounds you hear are the pounding and machinery of high-rise buildings.

And most of the people on the sidewalks are construction workers.

With most office workers still working from home, once busy streets and sidewalks feel like a ghost town.

“I think it’s pretty dramatic, we have little foot traffic during the week,” said Randy Musterer, who owns two sushi restaurants, one in downtown San Jose.

“We’re getting some companies, but definitely not what we’re used to,” he said.

It’s still a struggle for the small businesses that are trying to survive.

“It’s an uneven recovery, there are still many shocks with working from home, the bottlenecks in the supply chain. Small businesses are nowhere near complete recovery. While things appear to be going in the right direction, it will be a top priority when considering some of these future investments, ”said Derrick Seaver, President and CEO of the San Jose Chamber of Commerce.

“There is light at the end of the tunnel, but will it be in a year? In two years or in 10 years? ”Asked Musterer.

Kevin Graham chose a great time to arrive in the Bay Area. The San Francisco Giants had the best record in baseball, the excitement for the 49ers was heightened by the picking of Trey Lance in the first round, and the return of Klay Thompson to the Golden State Warriors line-up is imminent.

When such events take place, enthusiasm among local sports fans rises. These fans then look for more conversation about the teams, players, and topics that grabbed their attention, and for the summer book, the majority flocked to The Sports Leader, KNBR.

For the entire week (M-SO 6a-Mid), KNBR took 1st place in the market for men 25-54 with a 5.1. The station also produced a 5.1 in the weekday prime (MF 6a-7p), which put it in 2nd place. An even better highlight for the brand was their performance in September, which included a 6.3 for the entire week and a 6.1 for the busy season. With the 49ers playing regular season games and the Giants in a tight playoff battle with the Los Angeles Dodgers, October should see even better results.

Looking at the station’s weekday shows, Murph and Mac performed the best among the prime weekday shows for the quarter. The morning show produced a stock of 6.1 and took 1st place. Their share grew to 6.7 in September.

At noon, John Lund and Greg Papa finished 6th with a 4.0 share. Papa and Lund improved to 5.4 and 4th place in September.

In the afternoon, Tom Tolbert, Larry Krueger and Rod Brooks moved into second place with a share of 5.3. Her performance in September brought her to 1st place with a 6.4.

On the night (MF 7p-12a), the combination of San Francisco Giants baseball, 49ers preseason action and Mark Willard’s evening show (Mark has since moved to 95.7 The Game) helped The Sports Leader with a 7.7. to 2. parts. Similar to the daily shows, the evenings in September grew to 8.9.

For 95.7 The Game, the story was the afternoon show with Damon Bruce, Ray Ratto, and Matt Kolsky. The Bay Area trio produced a 4.7 share for the book and took third place, just six tenths of a point behind Tolbert, Krueger, and Brooks. The show retired by five tenths in September thanks to a surge to 5.9. Since then, Kolsky has moved into the evening hours, one point that should be taken into account. This means that the autumn book results of the afternoon show will be determined by Bruce and Ratto.

The second best show on The Game for the quarter was the noon show starring Matt Steinmetz, Dan Dibley, and Daryle ‘The Guru’ Johnson. Steiny, Guru, and Dibley scored 3.3, finishing their timeslot in 10th place for the book. Her September number was the same as her rating for the entire book.

At the start of the day, The Morning Roast recorded a share of 2.3 with Bonta Hill and Joe Shasky, earning them 14th place. Much like the noon show, the September number was the same as the rest of the book. The evenings were well behind in 24th place with 0.6. Once the warriors return, that number should improve.

Overall, The Game took 10th place for the book in the weekday Prime (MF 6a-7p) with a share of 3.7. The station also took 16th place for the entire week (M-SO 6a-Mitte) with a 2.5 share.

With the entry into the autumn book, The Game has revised its line-up. The station now offers The Morning Roast from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., Mark Willard and Dan Dibley from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Steiny and Guru from noon to 3 p.m., Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Matt Kolsky and Company from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

The Chicago Fall Event – Potter & Potter Auctions was a best seller in every way. The last time the hammer fell, 98 lots fetched $ 750 to $ 2,499. 23 lots fetched $ 2,500 to $ 9,999; and four lots broke the five-digit mark. The prices shown include the buyer’s commission of 20% of the company.

Museum quality art, paintings and prints participated in this exciting sale.
• Lot # 630, Le Pigeonneau by Pablo Picasso, was valued at $ 10,000-15,000 and traded for a staggering $ 37,500. This hand-colored and signed artist’s proof from 1939 was printed by Robert Blanchet in Paris and accompanied by two certificates of authenticity.
• Lot # 605, David Hockey’s framed Ossie and Mo, was valued at $ 1,000-2,000 and made $ 4,800 – nearly five times its low estimate! This signed work was numbered 4/75, printed on Chisbrook handmade paper by Maurice Payne, and published in 1968 by Petersburg Press.

Despite some technical issues on opening night, inconsistent sound issues, and a lack of confidence in the performance of Elizabeth Krebs ‘choreography Mary Poppins – the musical theater version of the Disney film inspired by PL Travers’ stories loosely inspired by her own childhood adventures – opened for a rousing ovation from the audience at Smyrna’s Springhouse Theater Company on Friday night.

With sympathetic leading actors, Crystal Kurek, Michael Adcock and Kristina James lead the ensemble of eager and dedicated players (including two really cute child actors who play Jane and Michael Banks) in a pleasant and often appealing version of the much-produced musical that won awards on Broadway and in the west end. Directed by Margaret Meeks with a certain light-hearted elegance, the audience should be made aware that the only actor to use an accent – namely a Cockney – is Michael Adcock as Bert, while the others have Central American-sounding voices with a lagniappe of affect here and there a southern trait added to the mix.

The story should be familiar to anyone who has ever watched television, been to a movie house, or partially knew what was going on around them: A troubled family living on Cherry Tree Lane in Edwardian-era London needs a new nanny to correct you the wild and pesky pair of Banks children (played by Jackson Kinsey as Michael and Shelby Baltimore as Jane) while their parents (played by Kristina James and Gregory Henry) stand at odds as their two awkward servants (Marsha Allen as Paula Deens angry wig [aka Mrs. Brill]and Jack Gilpin as the aging Robertson Ay) try to make the best of an increasingly dire situation.

Literally flying into her life to save the day as an Edwardian superhero is the sometimes silent but refreshingly direct Mary Poppins (the aforementioned Ms. Kurek), the magical and “practically perfect” governess who intends to become the Banks’ houseship -Family in Bristol repairing fashion – with the theater bag full of tricks in their carpet bag.

On the way from quarrelsome family to heartwarming and affectionate foursome, the members of the Banks household struggle with all sorts of fun (some of which will make you laugh, others will make you scratch your head) charming street performer with chimney sweep named Bert (Mr. Adcock has all the sparkling eyes and warmth in the role), who donates good luck with the handshake while he asks for the beautiful Miss Poppins.

Disney’s Mary Poppins and Cameron Mackintosh – as it is officially titled in the eloquent fashion of contemporary musical theater – includes a book by Julian Fellowes (he created Downton Abbey and also wrote the book for Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s stage adaptation of School of Rock, which is now on stage at Andrew Jackson Hall from TPAC through Sunday if you want a Julian Fellowes theater weekend) and features the original music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman (who made the Disney movie) with new songs and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. As written, the musical can be inventive and resourceful as its imaginative story unfolds on stage when all the technical requirements go smoothly, but when things go off the rails for even a brief moment the action slows down to a crawl and steps in moving forward at a treac pace.

This was the case on the opening night, when the very capable musical director / conductor Allison Hall and her accomplished nine-player orchestra had to vampire for (at least) five minutes while some technical snafu or other type of offstage was causing nonsense backstage. I half expected Fellowes to come off the wings to distract us with jokes and crazy stories of backstage gimmicks while the technical crew worked to fix the pesky issues.

However, we’re happy to report that thanks to Flying By Foy (the people who have made certain actors soar to heaven in their flying belts for generations), Mary Poppins flies gently and ethereally across the sky with her branded umbrella above and her magical carpet bag in her arms, much to the delight of every single person in the audience.

Director Margaret Meeks’ decision to cast Crystal Kurek (who previously played the title role for the Hendersonville Performing Arts Center) is an obvious, wonderful choice, given that her leading actress, Mary Poppins, confidently portrays Mary Poppins with generous charm and impressive panache, and her beautiful voice at the same time used musical score is due. And if there is anyone better suited to play Mary Poppins, then it is clearly her. Adcock is good like Bert, and uses his own charm and showbiz acumen to produce a believable performance. He’d be the first to admit he’s not really a dancer, but he speaks admirably throughout the show, which lasted two hours and 45 minutes on the opening night.

Kristina James is delightful when the actress became the wife and mother of middle class Winifred Banks, demonstrating her own singing talents in the process and showing off her own ample stage presence in scenes with the engaging Gregory Henry as her husband, the unhealthy George Banks. Among the cast members, Ximena Lindsey as the shopkeeper Mrs. Corry makes a bold statement by adding wit and panache to the sensational number “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”, and Shannon Henry almost stops the show herself as the malicious and demanding Miss Andrew (George Banks’) former nanny), with her lovely soprano who publishes some sheet music that is sure to rip your socks off.

The show can be a tech nightmare, and Springhouse Theater’s Mary Poppins will continue through September 30th, giving the company plenty of time to iron out any technical issues that will continue to nag until the issues are resolved (we even assume so that performance will improve significantly tonight)).

Owners said the high turnout gave them confidence that the Bay Area was headed in the right direction.

Newly opened Peruvian restaurant Jaranita on Steiner Street in the Marina District says they had to turn away some diners before this weekend because they were full outdoors.

But on this Saturday evening they were able to greet guests in their room for the first time.

“I feel great and I feel like we’re going back to normal, like things are going to go back to normal,” said general manager Kenzeo Mpoyi.

The energy was palpable, according to chef Javiar Cussato.

“The atmosphere is great, the people, like I said, love it, the music, the atmosphere of the restaurant, the colors – the way it is,” he said. “And also what we want to give with food that is made with the soul.”

Under the Red Tier, indoor eating is now allowed with a capacity of 25%. That means an additional 25 covers for Jaranita.

“It has gradually become popular,” said Mpoyi. “The first day wasn’t that much because people are still skeptical. But if they do see us with the right guidelines we will make sure they are safe even when they are inside, taking the temperatures at the door and socially distancing themselves from the tables, as gradually as you can see people coming . ”

The current 7-day mean new case in San Francisco as of February 26 is 56, compared to 170 the previous month.

Ristorante Parma in the Marina says adding four tables inside makes a significant financial difference for the nearly 40-year-old family business.

Owner Angela Elia recalls the year since the first lodging order and says it was a roller coaster ride of emotions.

“From sadness to happiness to depression, looking a little hopeful, but I’m just tired too, it’s very emotional and sometimes exhausting and worrying,” Elia said.

The next districts in the Bay Area that are expected to move into the Red Tier as early as the coming week are the Alameda and Solano districts.
