SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) – As crime and violence continue to make national headlines in the Bay Area, San Francisco police said they continue to make arrests and investigate armed robbery and car break-ins.

The department said that due to the organization behind these crimes, it takes time to track down and locate suspects.

“We’re out here doing these operations, doing this investigation, we’re putting together good cases, we’re making good arrests, and we’re going to keep doing that,” said Officer Adam Lobsinger, a public intelligence officer for the San Francisco Police Department . “We will continue to make arrests and take cases to the prosecutor’s offices.”

Police say these crimes must be taken seriously as the stolen property charge only rudiments the characteristics of these cases.

Suspects have been found with guns and may pose a threat to the public. The division’s investigation into these crimes revealed ghost weapons and suspicious vehicles that were chasing them long before they were arrested. Last week, five suspects were detained for both car break-ins and armed robbery, including a youth.

“It’s up to the police to make arrests, and if the police make arrests, it’s up to me to hold them accountable,” said San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin. “That’s exactly what I’m doing.”

Union Square has changed since a mass robbery last month. The police remain in the area weeks later with a heavy presence.

“I feel a lot safer walking around and seeing cops everywhere,” said Kristi Lee, a Christmas shopper in Union Square on Monday. “Before it felt like free for everyone and now we’re taking it over.”

Other visitors to the shopping district were uncomfortable in the city and were surprised that the police had made progress in their investigation.

“Unless I have to get something, I don’t really walk around,” said James Scott. “Well, if they make arrests, I’m sure I haven’t heard of them.”

Lobsinger said they are hearing the public’s concerns and are working as a police agency to change that perception. More arrests are expected this week.

“There is a certain amount of organization, there is a certain amount of planning, we are organized, we are planning, we are making these arrests, we are going to continue these arrests,” he said on Monday.

Boudin attended a rally of supporters amid efforts to recall him as the DA moves forward. Following the event, he faced media inquiries about the criticism that remained of his approach to these crimes. Boudin declined, saying he had brought more charges than the current Alameda County attorney or his predecessor in San Francisco, compared to their 2018 and 2019 terms.

“The greatest deterrent to committing a crime is knowing that you will be arrested. We need people who come to San Francisco to commit a crime to know without a doubt that if they commit a crime here, they will be arrested, ”Boudin said.

“This is not a San Francisco problem, this is a problem we see all over the country,” he said.

Boudin said the guilt attributed to him has to do with pre-term politics. He said courts take two years to process cases and he has not served that long. Boudin argued that it would take three years to review the outcome of the cases under his supervision. He said that while the problem is not specific to San Francisco, he is working with other elected officials and law enforcement agencies to fight this organized crime with a regional response.

In the meantime, police are encouraging local residents to report any crimes, as individual incidents could later be linked to a major operation that they are already investigating.

“We are everywhere, we are everywhere in the city and we want people to feel safe here,” said Lobsinger. “We want people to shop here and we want to feel welcome in this city.”

A longtime business owner’s excitement about moving their business to a brand new building is now being dampened by frustration.

SEATTLE – A longtime business owner’s enthusiasm for moving their business to a brand new building is now being dampened by frustration. The new headquarters for Best Plumbing on the 8800 block of Aurora Avenue North was broken into three times in two days this week.

“We have been a member of the Seattle ward for 50 years. I am the second generation owner and I just loved staying in the community. We serve a lot of businesses here and we just feel like Seattle is our home, ”said Bill Lilleness, owner of Best Plumbing.

They had outgrown their Fremont location and bought land five years ago to build their new mixed-use facility. After a city permit process that was described as “laborious”, they were finally able to move in the entire office staff last Saturday and set up their computers and workplaces.

On Monday, they found that thieves had stolen laptops, cell phones, monitors, televisions, and other electronic devices valued at around $ 20,000.

Their surveillance system showed that two groups of break-in suspects entered the building at different times on Sunday evening. The first two suspects to see bicycles bypassed the building’s security system using a master standard code around 8:30 p.m. and then took the elevator to the second floor. They opened an office door with a crowbar. The thieves left with their bags full of stolen electronics.

Seattle police describe the suspect as a white man with shaggy brown hair, of average stature, wearing blue jeans, a yellow-green backpack, and a brown hat. The second suspect is a possibly Hispanic male with short black hair, slim stature, a tattoo on his right forearm and wrist, and a black t-shirt.

Then, at 3:10 a.m., two more suspects entered the building.

“A new group comes back and they enter the building the same way and crack the elevator the same way to get upstairs. That was when the two big screen televisions were stolen, ”said Lilleness.

Police describe the first suspect as a white man of average stature wearing a purple and white plaid shirt, white jeans, and multiple necklaces. The second suspect is described as a white or Asian man of average stature who wears a light gray long sleeved shirt with buttons, glasses and part of his hair dyed green.

Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound is offering a cash reward of up to $ 1,000 for clues leading to the arrest of one of the suspects.

“These people have probably told many about these break-ins. It is obvious to me that two different suspects, two different times when they start this deal, someone is spreading the message, which means that they are talking to each other because they are either passing these codes or saying how to do it, ”Ret said . Meanwhile, Lilleness has reprogrammed the system and changed the codes to get into the building. He also hired armed security guards. That turned out to be a smart move on Monday night when a fifth suspect entered the building with a key card stolen during the previous night’s break-ins.

The suspect was immediately arrested and told police that he had received the key card from a man in a homeless camp that stretches along the sidewalk behind Best Plumbing.

Lilleness says he is concerned about the safety of his employees who have to park nearby and is considering long-term security options. Still, he says he tried to be a good neighbor, thinking that more jobs and new construction in the area could help the local community, which has a long history of drugs and prostitution.

He says they even invited Debora Juarez, a Seattle city council member, to its opening last weekend.

“My wife tried to email her twice only to say we were new to the neighborhood. We’re kind of proud of what we’ve built here. We hope this is a light on a hill so that we can have a little variety in the neighborhood. We never heard from her office, ”said Lilleness.

I have asked Councilor Juarez for a comment but have not yet received a response. Now, Lilleness says they plan to contact her again to remind the city council that businesses and local residents may leave Seattle if proper police and security are not a priority.

Lilleness wants all burglar suspects to be held legally accountable, but has little confidence that they will remain in jail after being arrested.

“It’s kind of where our city council and city attorney are going to allow this type of anarchy,” he said.

So if he had to do it all over again, would he build there again?

“Great question. Shoreline or Lynnwood looks better, ”Lilleness said.

Police are looking for several men who got out of a car at the Grand Hyatt at SFO and started shooting at people who were in valet parking near two parked cars on Monday night.

Several people called 911 to report the shooting at around 7:53 pm, and responding officers from the San Francisco Police Department arrived to find numerous cases of various caliber ammunition. A dark SUV that crashed into a vehicle parked at the hotel was found by police, leaving the woman inside with a gunshot wound that was not life threatening. She was rushed to hospital, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s detectives assigned to the San Francisco International Airport also responded and opened an investigation. Through the investigation, they learned that a white Acura SUV pulled up outside the Grand Hyatt and two to three people, described by witnesses as black male adults in their twenties, got out of the Acura and shot at people who were nearby two parked cars were in the hotel’s valet parking. The suspects then got back into the Acura and quickly drove away. The Acura has since been recovered as an unreported stolen vehicle. At least two other victims reported attempted carjacking by similar-looking men nearby and at the time of the incident, which the Sheriff’s Office said is also being investigated.

This shootout appears to be an isolated incident. The motive for the shooting and the suspects’ connection with the people they targeted are still under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

The detectives are investigating clues regarding the suspects’ identity, and anyone with information about the incident can call the anonymous tip line at the San Mateo Sheriff’s Office at (800) 547-2700.

PITTSBURG (CBS SF) – In the case of a stolen car tip, Pittsburg police and CHP officials blew up an illegal chop shop, arrested suspects and confiscated weapons, including at least one “ghost weapon” in a Friday attack.

Investigators said the incident began when Pittsburg police received an alert for stolen vehicles near Buchanan Road. Officials soon located the vehicle in a house in Inverness Dr. and called the stolen vehicle department of the CHP plant.

Armed with a search warrant, the officers entered the house and discovered an illegal chop shop operation that was already in full swing.

Elsewhere in the house, officers found several stolen items and several firearms. Several suspects were arrested and taken to Martinez Detention Center. The case will be referred to the public prosecutor for formal indictment.

The officers also located another stolen vehicle and an occupant who was in possession of a ghost weapon. He was also taken into custody and sent to prison.
