The Tennessee Titans will have a hard time pissing off the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16 on Thursday Night Football.

While at home for this competition, the Titans are underdogs, which is not surprising given the different levels of play these two teams have shown lately.

The Titans have struggled mightily on the offensive for the past four weeks, which resulted in the team losing three of the last four. Meanwhile, during their last five wins in their last six games, the Niners have been red hot on both sides of the ball, and especially on offense.

To make matters worse for Tennessee is the fact that they have neither left security guard Rodger Saffold nor left Taylor Lewan, nor Lewan’s replacement, Kendall Lamm, who announced he had COVID-19.

The good news for the Titans is that they are reportedly getting wide receiver AJ Brown back, but there is no guarantee he will add much in his first contest, especially given the current state of the offensive line.

If the Titans want a win on Thursday night, they must tick at least a majority of the following boxes.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

It is all well and good that Tannehill will have his two best weapons in passing in the same field with AJ Brown and Julio Jones, but he will not be able to use them if the offensive line in passing protection does not hold.

To expect that the group that didn’t play well at full strength would somehow play better without Saffold, Lewan and Lewan’s replacement Lamm is too much.

In addition, the Niners have the 10th most sacks in the NFL and one of the best pass-rushers in the league in Nick Bosa, who has 15 himself.

To remedy this problem, offensive coordinator Todd Downing needs to design passing games that quickly get the ball out of Tannehill’s hands and into the waiting arms of his receivers, who can hopefully create yards after being caught.

This is not the game to increase passing games on the field unless the offensive line is somehow characterized by pass protection. We don’t hold our breath for that.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

In their five losses this season, the Titans have averaged 3.6 sales per player, and they are currently on the second most giveaways in the NFL at 25. Last week Tennessee coughed football four times.

The Titans have problems offensively like without the sales, but those mistakes only make their problems worse. Tennessee has to stop beating itself before it can beat its opponent, and that will hopefully start in week 16 against a Niners defense that is forcing average sales.

Another way the Titans can take the strain off Tannehill is to establish yourself as you run and give yourself strong support. Tennessee has successfully moved the ball on the ground in Derrick Henry’s absence and has played in the last three two 200-yard competitions.

Getting the floor game going will not only build up game action, it will also slow the 49ers’ pass rush that will no doubt put its ears back as Tennessee knows the injury problems ahead of time. Plus, the Titans will be able to control the clock and keep the 49ers’ fiery offensive off the field.

Granted, the Titans still have offensive issues despite successfully leading football, but it still remains an important part of their offensive and can help make things at least a bit easier for Tannehill.

The Titans will have a very difficult time covering tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Deebo Samuel when quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has time to throw the soccer ball.

Tennessee can help its high school with these difficult matchups by putting pressure on Garoppolo, and ideally, that pressure will force the San Francisco quarterback to make mistakes.

The Titans defense has played very well lately, but if we have one gripe it is the fact that the unit have lost sales in two of their last three games, both of which have been losses.

This is the definition of a strength-on-strength matchup as the Niners have the sixth best rushing attack and face a Titans defense that has the second best run defense.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan is brilliant at planning his stormy attack and while the Niners have had a lot of success lately this is undoubtedly still a first-turn team.

Tennessee must maintain its elite running defense in this case, forcing Garoppolo to win the game with his arm, which isn’t the 49ers’ recipe for success for most weeks.

The Tennessee Titans suffered an embarrassing loss to the Houston Texans in Week 11, 22-13 and are moving back on the NFL power rankings of various experts.

As always, we begin our round-up with USA TODAY’s Nate Davis, who pushes the Titans down four places from 3rd place to 7th place.

7. Titans (3): RB Derrick Henry’s absence would ultimately hurt, but give them credit for what they have overcome on a staffing level. Tennessee has played 82 players in the league this season, eight more than any other team.

The 82 players the Titans have used this season are two shy for most who have played a team since 1993. The Miami Dolphins 2019 and the San Francisco 49ers 2020 hold the record with 84.

Despite their injuries and the Week 11 loss, the Titans remain number one in the AFC South and Conference, although the latter will change if they lose to the New England Patriots in Week 12.

Now let’s look at where other experts rank the Titans.

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Wojton: What happened to the titans? The Bills are close to second, but the weekend’s shocker was Tennessee … the loss to the Texans? And during a winning streak of six games? The Titans are still a top team but they need to use this as a wake up call that they cannot take days off if RB Derrick Henry is not in the group.

Whatever the reason, this team is just downplaying the competition. Strange for a top team in the AFC.

Werner: Amazing. The only word that can describe the Tennessee Titans. Absolutely amazing. Next: with the New England Patriots

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Iyer: What was that? The Titans’ run-dependent trails with Derrick Henry caught up with them against the Texans when they couldn’t get out of trouble in rainy and windy conditions. Ryan Tannehill can’t afford to play like this because the defense just isn’t good enough to overcome it.

Müller: After two years of analytical love, the loss of Derrick Henry and Julio Jones actually seems to have been enough to undo Ryan Tannehill’s efforts. The Titans offense has been looking bad for three weeks in a row.

They beat the Rams because they lost the ball early and their defense was reinforced without their starrunner. Unless they can get some success with play action, I’m not sure how Tennessee’s pass attack is enough, even with AJ Brown.

However, it would be foolish to ignore the quality gains in their schedule. As with seemingly every NFL team in 2021, we will have to wait and see on this offense. But it feels like the old Tom Moore legend when you talk about Peyton Manning – except that it’s about King Henry instead.

Hanzus: Nothing should really be considered breathtaking this season in the NFL, but there weren’t many people who predicted that the Titans’ formidable winning streak would be picked up at home by the Texans. Ryan Tannehill threw four interceptions on the 22-13 setback and began to appear like a man alone on an island as AJ Brown joined Julio Jones and Derrick Henry on the list of unavailable offensive stars. Tennessee hasn’t shown any signs of sustained crime since Henry walked on the shelf after foot surgery three weeks ago. This all feels like terrible timing for a game against the ardent Patriots, but Mike Vrabel’s Titans have a habit of beating the odds.

Turron Davenport: Most Memorable Thanksgiving Game: On November 22, 2008, Lions 47-10 were blown out

The Titans wanted to atone for their first loss of the season after starting the year with a 10-game winning streak. Tennessee’s double backcourt of Chris Johnson (16 carries, 125 yards, two touchdowns) and LenDale White (23 carries, 106 yards, two touchdowns) were on full display in the blowout win. Johnson scored a goal on a 6 yard run and later showed his elite speed on a 58 yard touchdown scamper. Meanwhile, White crossed the Detroit Defense for two short touchdown runs of his own. Both backs finished rushing over 100 yards, and as a team, the Titans ran for 292 yards.

Schwab: Well, it was pretty clear that the Titans weren’t as good as their 8-2 record last week. But lose to Houston? Ouch. They faced a strange loss of bad luck, and that was it. They’re not as good as 8-2 and not as bad as falling 19-0 at home to the Texans. You will still win the division, but no one will select it to make a playoff run. The offense just isn’t good enough without Derrick Henry.

BOSTON (CBS) – Smith & Wesson, one of the oldest gun manufacturers in the country, announced Thursday that it is moving operations from Springfield, Massachusetts to Tennessee due to proposed gun laws in Massachusetts.

The company plans to move to Maryville, Tennessee, in 2023, having been based in Springfield since it was founded in 1852.

“This was an extremely difficult and emotional decision for us, but after a comprehensive and thorough analysis of the continued health and strength of our iconic company, we feel we have no other alternative,” said President and CEO Mark Smith.

Smith said proposed legislation in Massachusetts would prevent the company from making certain types of weapons.

“These bills would prevent Smith & Wesson from making firearms that are legal in almost every state and that are safely used every day by tens of millions of law-abiding citizens to exercise their Amendment II rights to protect themselves and their families , and enjoy shooting, ”said Smith. “While we hope this arbitrary and harmful legislation will be defeated at this meeting, these products represented over 60% of our sales last year, and the unfortunate likelihood of such restrictions being increased again led to a best-way forward review for Smith & Wesson. “

Smith said the company reviewed several cities before deciding to relocate its 750-workforce headquarters to Maryville.

MORE NEWS: The San Jose Agave Sports Bar was closed after a number of incidents including fatal crash, shootings, prostitution

As part of the move, Smith & Wesson will also close facilities in Connecticut and Missouri and consolidate the number of locations from four to three.
