The jilted lover and ex-handyman accused in the horrific slaying of the Queens married mother of two Orsolya Gaal will not testify before the grand jury due to the charges against him, his lawyer told the judge.

David Bonola, 44, was marched into Queens Supreme Court in orange prison garb Tuesday with his long curly brown hair tied back and a mask partially covering his face.

The handcuffed Bonola did not utter a word as the female translator spoke to him in Spanish and his lawyer addressed the judge.

‘Mr. Bonola will not be testing before a grand jury. We withdraw from their request for him to appear before a grand jury,’ Attorney David Strom from Queens Defenders said.

Bonola, who is from Mexico, had been living in the US for the last 21 years. Police said he had been living in New York in violation of immigration law before the gruesome murder

The former handyman was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree evidence tampering and fourth-degree weapon possession in relation to the brutal murder, a report said.

Bonola allegedly admitted to stabbing Gaal more than 58 times before stuffing her body in a duffel bag and dragging it down her residential Forest Hills street in the early morning hours of April 16.

He made his purported confession when questioned by police, making incriminating statements after voluntarily going to the police station amid the investigation.

Bonola was obsessed with New York City crime and how to seduce women, according to his YouTube channel.

One week before the murder, the suspect updated his playlist by saving videos including one titled: ‘7 Mindsets that Attract Women Like Crazy.’

Some of the tips were how to attract beautiful woman and make ‘you become unstoppable with women… without you really having to do anything.’

Bonola did not upload videos himself, but instead saved a series of clips that he liked onto a playlist on his YouTube account, which is publicly visible.

Other videos Bonola saved included titles like ‘Pickup and first date confidence’ and ‘how to go down on a woman’

Additional videos on his playlist were sexually graphic in nature, while others dealt with topics such as: ‘How to deal with a relationship when a woman is just not that into you;’ ‘How you know you are with a Hungarian woman;’ ‘Male magnetic mindset that drives women wild.

His YouTube channel shows he saved thousands of shooting, rapes and murders, on curated playlists, including 754 videos of local news reports of violent crimes, The New York Post reported.

Some of the stabbing videos were eerily similar to the brutal slaying on the Queens mother. One of his videos shared the news report of Amie Harwick, a former sex therapist, who reportedly sought two restraining orders against ex-boyfriend before her February 2020 murder in Hollywood, the news outlet said

Gaal had hired Bonola to do handyman work in her Forest Hills home. The pair had been having an on-off affair for two years before he allegedly murdered her with a kitchen knife in her basement during the early hours of April 16, while her 13-year-old son was upstairs.

Surveillance footage captured just hours after her murder showed Bonola walking along 114th Street near his apartment in Richmond Hill, just after 6am.

The day of the killing, Bonola allegedly headed to a CityMD in order to receive help for cuts on his hands. He was referred to Bellevue Hospital after urgent care doctors said the wounds were too deep for them to treat.

Police said they received a call around 8.10am on Saturday for a report of ‘a suspicious bag with blood on it at the corner of Metropolitan Avenue and Jackie Robinson Parkway in Forest Hills.’ The bag held Gaal’s body.

Cops then followed a trail of blood left by the dragged bag, leading back to Gaal’s home. They found son, Leo, inside unscathed and took him in for questioning, putting him in handcuffs, before letting him go later that day.

Gaal’s husband Howard Klein and her older son Jamie, who had been on the West Coast, rushed back. They have not been seen or heard from since.

He had reportedly gone over to the home in an attempt to resurrect the affair as the relationship had come to ‘the end’.

Bonola later confessed to the heinous crime after being spotted by police days after the murder.

Police sources told the New York Post that he was very ‘matter of fact,’ and that he proceeded to eat a bagel with cream cheese as if nothing had happened

‘It was very matter of fact, very thorough, he answered every question they had,’ a police source told the newspaper. At no point did he request a lawyer.

The day of Bonola’s arrest he screamed: ‘F**k you motherf****r!’ when a group of reporters asked him why he killed Gaal.

Bonola has been living in the US illegally after moving from Mexico 20 years ago. His estranged wife and children are believed to live in Queens with him.

NYPD detectives declined to comment on Bonola’s immigrant status but ICE has now filed a detainer with Queens Central Booking, where he is being held.

It is unclear if he will face additional charges related to his immigration status.

Bonola will next court appearance will be May 10, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office.

Ornithologists are skeptical as to whether Bud, an African gray parrot allegedly witnessed a murder in Michigan in 2015, can give reliable testimony or oral testimony in a court case.

It’s not because African gray parrots are not intelligent – birds can be taught to do simple math, speak with enormous vocabulary, and demonstrate impressive conclusions. Rather, it’s unclear whether Bud is repeating a conversation from the murder itself, or whether he heard it on TV, on the radio, or from another time in his life, experts told Live Science.

“We don’t know where this conversation might be coming from,” said Erin Colbert-White, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., Who works with African gray parrots. [Pretty Bird: Images of a Clever Parrot]

The murder case, which is attracting national attention, involves 45-year-old Martin Duram, who was found dead from five gunshot wounds in May 2015. His wife, Glenna Duram, 48, is a suspect, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The Duram family owned Bud at the time of the murder, but Martin Duram’s ex-wife Christine Keller is now taking care of the parrot. Several weeks after Duram’s death, Keller heard Bud speak in both male and female voices as if he were conversing, the Free Press reported.

The parrot said in a man’s voice, “Get out,” followed by the voice of the woman who said, “Where should I go?” The man’s voice replied, “Don’t shoot,” reported the Free Press.

Keller alerted the prosecutor on the case, who said he was unaware of a precedent allowing a parrot to participate in a trial, but he would be looking into whether Bud could serve as admissible evidence, the Free Press reported.

Star witness?

Bud can no doubt handle words, but experts doubt that this feathered chat can provide reliable testimony or evidence in a trial.

“Basically, it’s about whether a parrot can learn a sentence it has only heard once,” says Irene Pepperberg, research fellow at the Department of Psychology at Harvard University and author of “Alex & Me: How a Scientist and a Parrot discovered a hidden world of animal intelligence – and formed a deep connection in the process ”(Collins Publishers, 2008).

“The general answer is ‘no’ because it takes a lot of practice for the bird to reproduce the sounds of the English language,” Pepperberg told Live Science in an email. “A bird may learn a single word quickly, but only if it already has the specific sounds in its repertoire.”

For example, Alex, also a gray parrot, learned the word “carrot” after a training session, but he already knew the words “key” and “parrot”, which probably made it easier to learn the new word, she said. However, the origin of the conversation could remain a mystery, she said.

This isn’t the first time a parrot has helped solve a murder. A man was beaten and killed in Dallas on Christmas Eve 2001. His cockatoo (a species of parrot) attacked the attacker and drew blood that landed on the wall. DNA analysis, along with other clues in the case, helped convict the killer, one of the Texas man’s former employees at his pool company, according to BBC News.
