On Sunday, Oct. 16, the San Francisco 49ers (3-2) face off against the Atlanta Falcons (2-3). The game starts at 1:00 p.m. EDT (10:00 a.m. PDT) on Fox.

New 6-acre San Francisco park, Battery Bluff, opens in the present day

The much-anticipated Battery Bluff park in the Presidio opens to the public today.

The 6-acre site features gardens, picnic tables and a majestic view of the Golden Gate, and marks the second of three sections to be opened around the restored site at what was once Doyle Drive.

Seven acres of tidal marsh opened at Quartermaster Reach in December of 2020. The final 14-acre park atop the Presidio Parkway tunnels, Presidio Tunnel Tops, is set to open in July.

“Yes, I’m wearing heels in a park,” joked Mayor London Breed at a clear sunny day at the site yesterday, in front of the old batteries. “I’m in awe of this view, and the magic of what I feel today.”

“People come from all over the world to experience the best that San Francisco has to offer. They come for the sheer beauty, access to green and open space, and to visit some of the best urban parks in the country,” Breed said. “Now, everyone will have more to look forward to and greater access to this national park with the historic renovation of Battery Bluff.”

Built in 1936 as a New Deal project, the original Doyle Drive connected San Francisco to the Golden Gate Bridge, but by the 1990s it was deemed both an eyesore and one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the city. Before it was finally torn down, federal highway officials gave it a safety rating of 2 out of 100. The park project to restore the site has taken numerous agencies and more than 30 years. The park was designed by late landscape architect Michael Painter.

Four historic gun battery sites, Slaughter, Baldwin, Sherwood and Blaney, are now on view at the site for the first time since the construction of Doyle Drive began in 1936. Built between 1899 and 1902, the batteries were part of the US Army’s coastal defense system around the Golden Gate to protect San Francisco Bay.

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The 2022 Game Developers Conference (GDC), the world’s longest-running event for professionals dedicated to the art and science of making games, begins its 36th edition today, in-person at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. The week-long conference, which also includes a virtual component, will feature more than 200 exhibitors, over 1,000 speakers and more than 600 lectures, tutorials, roundtable discussions and networking events. Safety is a priority for the conference, with proof of vaccination required at the event and face masks worn indoors in compliance with California and local requirements.

The GDC kicks off with two days of Summits, March 21 and 22, each of which offers in-depth insight on a wide range of game development disciplines, including: advanced graphics, AI, animation, art direction, community management, fair play, free-to-play games, game career, game narrative, game storytelling, independent games, level design, machine learning, math in game development, game educators, online game technology, open source game development, programming, production essentials, technical artistry, tools, visual effects, UX and VR/AR.

Following the GDC Summits, the main GDC conference will kick off on Wednesday, March 23 with the multi-part presentation “GDC Main Stage: The Developer’s Renaissance,” which this year will focus on the future of game development and the evolving workplace. Esteemed speakers from Eidos-Montréal, PlayStation Studios and Devolver Digital will talk on topics including finding the right balance in a remote/hybrid work environment, taking a stronger approach to addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and empowering developers to “kill it with kindness.”

The main conference also features sessions full of insights from some of the biggest names in electronic entertainment. Top designers will lead sessions on Baldur’s Gate 3, Clash of Clans, Horizon Forbidden West, Life is Strange: True Colors, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Psychonauts 2, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Sable, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience at Disney World, Wolfenstein 3D, Q-bert and much more. The 24th annual Independent Games Festival (IGF) Awards, which honor the most promising developers and projects from the world of independent video games, and the 22nd annual Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCAs), which recognizes and celebrates the creativity, artistry and technical ingenuity of the finest developers and games of the last year, will both take place back-to-back on Wednesday, March 23, starting at 6:30pm PT. Both the IGF and GDCA ceremonies are available to attend for all GDC 2022 pass holders and will be livestreamed on the GDC’s official Twitch channel.

‘Transferring ahead’: Indoor masks guidelines altering immediately for a number of Bay Space counties

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (KGO) – Three Bay Area counties have introduced new rules for wearing masks indoors. Marin, Contra Costa and Alameda County are loosening their mandates to varying degrees.

“Do you want to know what my Halloween costume is? I’ll be there tomorrow because the mask mandate ends, ”said Michael Freed.

Freed probably waited months to say that line. He owns the Bogies 2 restaurant in downtown San Rafael. From Monday, vaccinated customers and employees no longer have to wear a mask.

“I’m excited to see the end, even more concerned about the customers. They don’t want to sit inside, some still want to go outside,” Freed said.

Marin County is the first in the Bay Area to remove mask requirements from most indoor public spaces – including Jeff Brusati’s long-running sports business.

“We are making progress, but we will be watching closely and if they ask us to wear masks again, we will wear masks again,” said Brusati.

Marin County’s health officials hope things don’t go backwards. Numbers have now been reached for the penetration into the moderate spread category for the virus.

“The vaccination rates for all residents are over 80%, the hospital rates have declined. In fact, there are only two people with COVID-19 in the hospital today, none in the intensive care unit … a four-month low, “said Marin District Health Officer Dr. Matt Willis.

Ernest Owusu is still uncomfortable taking off his mask.

“I’m not ready yet so I’ll still be wearing a mask. I’m uncomfortable with it, I won’t be doing it for a while,” said Owusu.

“I prefer not to wear a mask when training. I just got my booster, so I’m pretty excited,” said Christine Cabras of El Sobrante.

“I think it’s a little early to change the rules with the flu season starting. Even if it’s not about preventing COVID, I think it’s nice not to be exposed to other people’s germs, ”said Georgie Ziff from San Pablo.

Back in Marin, masks are still needed in facilities such as schools and hospitals. Private business owners can choose to maintain mask guidelines.

Vaccine Tourism Takes Off at San Francisco Worldwide – Homeland Safety In the present day

With San Francisco International Airport (SFO) exceeding 30,000 vaccination doses at the airport in August, a clear trend is emerging: More and more foreign travelers are making vaccinations part of their stay in San Francisco.

This concept, known as “vaccine tourism,” represents the fastest growing category of visitors to the SFO Medical Clinic, where Johnson & Johnson’s free, single-dose vaccine is administered. Currently, 80% of new vaccine appointments at SFO come from non-US citizens, and visitors from 58 countries around the world have received over 1,000 doses.

“This trend is really a win-win for everyone,” said airport director Ivar C. Satero. “It ensures vaccine doses are not wasted by making them available to those who may have difficulty accessing them in their home country. It also stimulates travel and visitor spending for the Bay Area and, most importantly, it helps protect against the virus spreading across the community. My thanks go to the entire team for making this program a reality. “

Since the end of May, the SFO Medical Clinic, located in front of the security check in the International Terminal, has been offering free single-dose vaccines from Johnson & Johnson on an appointment basis.

SFO first began offering on-site vaccines in February when it partnered with San Mateo County to provide vaccines to health care workers and county residents over 65. The airport converted one of its multi-story garages into a drive-through vaccination facility. Over 26,500 doses were administered through this program.

SFO also opened a vaccination clinic in the International Terminal in early May, offering doses to airport employees, residents and travelers. This program was administered through a partnership with Safeway and administered nearly 2,200 doses.

Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE: UBER) Shares are trading 3.4% lower at $ 48 after the company announced it has reached an agreement with the minority shareholders of Cornershop Global LLC to sell its remaining 47% stake in the online – Grocery retailer to acquire Cornershop for 29 million Uber shares.

Uber is a technology provider that connects passengers with drivers, hungry people with restaurants and food delivery services, and shippers with carriers. The company’s on-demand technology platform could eventually be used for additional products and services like autonomous vehicles, drone delivery, and Uber Elevate, which the company calls aerial ridesharing.

Uber is headquartered in San Francisco and operates in over 63 countries with over 110 million users who order a ride or meal at least once a month. Around 76% of gross sales come from car pooling and 22% from food deliveries.

After the earthquake and fire of 1906, thousands of auxiliary houses were built. At least 30 are still home to Bay Area residents today

Where did all the earthquake huts from 1906 go?

Most of the 5,610 relief houses built in San Francisco parks have been demolished, but there are still a surprising number in the San Francisco Bay Area – at least 30 and maybe many more. The residents who live in them swear that the sturdy redwood frames, built in one day, could last another 115 years.

We’ve compiled a list of all San Francisco cabins that have been “certified” by local conservationists, as well as some that are more widely believed to be earthquake huts for refugees as well. Bernal Heights has the highest concentration, but the dainty homes are scattered around the area and beyond.

The Earthquake Hut Preservation movement began with this hut in the Sunset District after Jane Cryan rented the site in 1982. There are actually four huts – three in the front, one free in the back yard. With Cryan’s help, this cabin became the first a tenant lived in to receive historic status. It’s San Francisco Landmark # 171.

The little blue house between two larger buildings on the main street of Bernal Heights has a strong “up” house feel. It is one of the larger “Type B” cabins in the front with two bedrooms in the back. Despite the additions, the floor plan is only 600 square meters.

This wood-sided earthquake house in the Sunset District looks more out of place than most in a neighborhood filled with pastel post-war housing. It has added a bay window, but the sloping roof gives it away as a larger “Type B” cabin.

673 Moultrie in Bernal Heights, one of the most picturesque earthquake cottages, always has a light color scheme (currently brown clapboard with yellow and light green borders). And while other huts are often hidden, this one is flush with the sidewalk and looks small between two apartment buildings. The structure is actually made up of two of the larger “Type B” cottages stacked together, making the space about 500 square feet.

The cabin on Bocana Street is one of the most famous earthquake huts included on every refugee hut tour in Bernal Heights. For years it was the home of Shack Tivist Vicky Walker. The house impresses with its stained glass window and its larger size. The cabin at 164 Bocana is one of the few surviving “Type C” cabins with a luxurious living area of 400 square meters.

These two cottages are separate residences, but a clear pair in Bernal Heights. The white “Type B” cabins are offset from the street, one near the sidewalk and one behind a gate, but they are similar in design.

While most of the surviving huts are in Bernal Heights, this little gem is a prominent landmark in San Francisco’s Oceanview District, where there are four surviving huts. It looks like a shed next to two much larger houses (including a new one with a similar color scheme). The 233 Broad House is a “Type A”, the smallest type of earthquake hut.

This “Type B” is one of several Oceanview cabins and is far from the sidewalk so it looks even smaller. Oceanview is third in the San Francisco Refugee Home Census, after Bernal Heights and the Sunset District.

Many of the surviving earthquake huts were raised on hills and offer wonderful views. Former cabin dweller Lisa Ruth Elliott talks about how she would start her day at 14 Elsie Street, looking south to the San Bruno Mountains. The house is a simple blue refugee home and has possibly the best hilltop views overlooking the city and the Sutro Tower.

The 3653 Folsom Cabin is located between two larger houses and is characterized by a matching garage (built after moving out of a park in 1906) and lack of space. The “Type B” hut has no front garden and shares the walls with both neighbors.

A small and delightful “Type A” cabin, clad in wood shingles and located near the street in Bernal Heights, looks tiny between two two-story apartments from the 1950s. A larger structure with a similar pointed roof is attached to the rear.

The Presidio “Goldie Shacks”

Shack activist Jane Cryan was part of the group that saved these two 34th Avenue cabins and restored the two smaller “Type A” cabins for display in the Presidio behind the Old Post Hospital. Without a ticket, they’re two of the most accessible cabins in San Francisco.

810 San Antonio, San Bruno

In addition to the Bernal Heights, Sunset and Oceanview districts of San Francisco, Daly City and San Bruno were popular places for relocated earthquake huts. This audited house includes two smaller cottages and some additional constructions.

A triumph of conservation, this cabin was the beginning of the nonprofit history group of the Western Neighborhoods Project. Keepers, including David Gallagher and Woody LaBounty, rescued four cottages on Kirkham Avenue, moved three to a room near Jack London Square, and saved a fourth (including the authentic color park green) for public display. After being exhibited on Market Street in 2005, it was brought around town in a pickup truck and now has a home in the San Francisco Zoo Conservation Corner.

3 Fifth Ave., Oakland

When the Western Neighborhoods Project worked with conservationists to save the cottages on Kirkham Avenue, three of them went to the Fifth Avenue Institute, a bohemian collection of buildings a few blocks south of Jack London Square.

Amazingly, someone dragged two earthquake huts and built a house in three counties 75 miles away in Santa Cruz. The two small “Type A” huts are next to each other, with a third, newer structure in between.
