A plumber visit can cost anywhere from $175 to $450. If you don’t have that money lying around, you should have a chat with your TikTok-loving grandkids before they come to visit. A viral TikTok pipe cleaning trend could destroy your home’s sewage disposal system.

It’s all part of a viral trend called “product overload.” Users film themselves filling toilets, baths and sinks with a surplus of astringent cleaners. Not only is it wasteful, but it can also be dangerous.

Before we dive into the details, here’s a quick disclaimer: Not all TikTok cleaning trends are dangerous. In fact, cleaning-focused TikTokers often share some great product recommendations. But this particular trend can cause severe damage to your pipes and your lungs.

This “CleanTok” trend can poison your family

If you’ve ever wondered, “How dangerous is TikTok?” here’s a perfect example. If you’re behind on the times, here’s a quick overview of how it’s even possible for a social media video to put you in danger.

TikTok is a video-sharing app with 1 billion active users as of 2022. It’s hard for moderators to rein in so many people at once. This means dangerous trends can slip through the cracks.

Some videos with the #productoverload hashtag have warnings at the bottom. For example, a footer underneath this video says, “Participating in this activity could result in your or others getting hurt.”

It’s a bit of an understatement since the wrong combination of chemical cleaners could lead to homemade mustard gas. Just in case you forgot this historical tidbit, mustard gas is a chemical weapon of war. The Genoa Convention banned it in 1925.

Maybe it’s hard for you to picture the trend when you don’t have a video. We’ve got you covered. Here’s an example:

@cleaningmamabee Reply to @asyy_yyy  #emojiclean part 1 of 2 #MadewithKAContest #asmrcleaning #cleantok #fypシ #foryou #satisfying #toiletclean #asmr #colorfulcleaning #productoverload ♬ original sound – Cleaning Mama Bee

Notice how the person behind the camera overlays different cleaners. Stacking chemicals like this can burn your throat or skin. It can also poison you or make you pass out.

Here’s why the user is doing this in the first place. They’re responding to a challenge, which you can see in the upper-left corner of the video.

One of their followers challenged them to use toilet cleaners based on emojis. So the TikTok user is cleaning their toilet bowl as an artistic challenge. They’re focusing on colors rather than ingredients.

PROTECT YOUR FAMILY: 18 must-have items that help you survive any emergency

Aside from the dangers, this TikTok pipe cleaning trend can damage your home

Costly damage can bite a massive hole out of your bank account. Mixing corrosive cleaning chemicals can damage household drainage systems and pipes. The product overload trend introduces the risks of fires and explosions and can also cause pipe erosion or flooding.

You could even deal with clogged pipes. That’s because a sludgy mixture of cleaning products can make a thick, goopy paste that blocks your pipes. In some cases, the internal pipe damage could impact your entire community’s wastewater.

You might think your city’s wastewater treatment system is too strong to be hurt so easily. But your pipes need lots of water to flush these thick mixes down the drain. These volatile chemical combinations are demanding, which could strain local resources. So, this could hurt the environment.

If you want to cut man-made chemical cleaners out of your life, switch to plant-based products. Here are some of the best natural cleaners you should try.

You need to know about this if you have friends or family members who love TikTok

If you have loved ones who adore TikTok, bring this to their attention. You must warn them ahead of time so they don’t hurt themselves. Actually, they might hurt you if they come to visit!

Share this article with your friends just in case they need a reminder of the most dangerous cleaner combos:

ammonia + bleach = chloramines.

Dish detergent + bleach = Toxic gas.

hydrogen peroxide + Vinegar = peracetic acid.

Lysol + bleach = Toxic gas.

Mildew stain remover + bleach = chlorine gas.

Oven cleaner + bleach = chlorine gas.

rubbing alcohol + bleach = chloroform.

Toilet bowl cleaner + bleach = Toxic fumes.

Vinegar + bleach = chlorine gas.

Oh, and don’t mix different drain cleaners. This can release chlorine gas, leading to fires or even an explosion!

The same goes for your kids or grandkids. Maybe they haven’t taken their chemistry class and need some guidance. Warn them about this trend, or you might catch them doing this in the sink!

March 14, 2022

The pandemic is likely shifting the tech jobs landscape away from traditional tech hubs in the US to midsize, more affordable cities dubbed “Zoom towns,” according to a story by MSN that cites a report from the Brookings Institute. Large city tech hubs such as San Francisco; Seattle; and Austin, Texas made up nearly half the US’ tech job growth between 2015 and 2019. However, the major tech centers saw their growth slow during the first year of the pandemic. Meanwhile midsize cities such as Cincinnati and Minneapolis have experienced significant growth. These midsize towns were referred to as “Zoom towns” in the Brookings report, though the report noted it’s unclear if the trend will continue.

The legal sector has embarked on a new era of hybrid working with many firms looking to cut office space – however, one city firm is taking the unusual step of moving to bigger premises.

US-headquartered Jenner & Block has agreed a lease on 13,000 square feet of offices at 10 Exchange Square in Broadgate, London, which will be a 45% increase on its existing space at Tower 42. The lease includes an option for additional floorspace after five years.

Show full screen

The firm opened its London office in 2015 with just two lawyers. He now has 20 fee-earners specializing in complex commercial litigation, international arbitration and white collar defence.

Charlie Lightfoot, managing partner of the London office, said: ‘We have outgrown our existing space and need further room to grow in the future. We continue to focus on a combination of targeted lateral recruitment and organically building and nurturing our younger lawyers.’

Managing partners Katya Jestin and Randy Mehrberg said the move ‘is a mark of the confidence we have in our London lawyers, the phenomenal services they provide, and the continued growth we expect in the coming years’.

The past few months have been a busy time for the international firm in terms of real estate. Last year, it opened an office in San Francisco. It recently moved to new offices in Los Angeles, renewed the lease on its Chicago headquarters and is moving to new offices in New York.

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – New national figures released showing initial jobless claims fell to 184,000 in the week ending December 4, the lowest since September 1969, according to the Department of Labor.

But California is bucking the trend.

CONTINUE READING: “We weren’t expecting a million dollars” – San Francisco Homes Astronomical Overbid drugged agents

“This morning we had 20 percent of the new jobless claims in the country, while we only got about 11.7 percent of the
civilian workforce, ”said Michael Bernick, labor attorney and former head of the state’s employment development department.

Bernick says several COVID-related factors contribute to California’s oversized proportion of the country’s unemployed.

“Sustained effects of the very strict closings and the impact on our small business economy as well as the heightened concerns about COVID and its variants, childcare and uncertainty about schools,” said Bernick.

Large office buildings and corporate headquarters in downtown San Jose remain largely empty.

CONTINUE READING: UPDATE: Person dies after being dragged out of water near China Beach, San Francisco

With COVID posing a persistent health threat, companies have postponed plans to return to the office more than once. This has created a ghost town effect on the streets and in restaurants like 4th Street Pizza.

“It still has a profound effect on us,” said Josh McGhie, co-owner of 4th Street Pizza. “I mean, downtown San Jose used to be a busy area. There are very few people out here now. “

Fewer people in the office mean fewer people on the sidewalk buying food, shopping or needing services. That means reduced working hours for small businesses and their employees.

In addition, there is a segment of the California workforce that is slow to return to work, even when jobs are available.

“Young people, it seems, don’t want a job. It’s definitely hard to hire people, ”said McGhie.

MORE NEWS: Family and friends gather to look out for the beloved security guard Kevin Nishita. to remember

It makes it difficult especially for small businesses, which McGhie says are still operating in survival mode.

Gentrification has fundamentally changed what New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio once called the “crisis of desirability”.

As in the Big Apple, many high-paid workers have begun to return to their former wasted enclaves, contrary to a trend that initially seemed to shrink the city’s tech population significantly due to the pandemic, leading to even more reluctance among the locals.

“I’m not moving. I’m not going anywhere. I have my roots,” a lifelong resident told the Guardian. “Working with kids, teaching kids music without asking for money. It’s about giving back to the community. Latin- Rock music originated here in the mission district, so my aim is to keep it alive. “

With colors ranging from jungle green and royal blue on the sidewalk to a red and yellow sunburst on the ridge, the otherwise humble Spanish-style house is essentially a giant mural, a crowded portrait of long deceased musicians, Segovia’s family members, social activists, various psychedelics and one or the other jungle animal.

Segovia has lived in the Mission District of San Francisco since 1963 and sees itself as the guardian of the district’s culture, especially as the birthplace of Latin rock. (Carlos Santana, a family friend, grew up nearby.) But increasingly, the 68-year-old “Mayor of the Mission” is faced with a stark display of all the colors that have been bled from the city in successive waves of technology-driven ones Gentrification.

“I walk through the neighborhood every day and see all these gray houses,” says Segovia. “It’s like a cemetery.”

From the International Orange of the Golden Gate Bridge to the intricately carved and painted facades of the Painted Ladies in Alamo Square, vivid colors have long been the grammar of San Francisco’s native architecture.

Richard Segovia stands in front of his brightly painted house in San Francisco. The house next to his is painted gray. Photo: Talia Herman / The Guardian

But between the pastel tones and the gold leaf decorations you can see more and more a conspicuous juxtaposition: 125-year-old houses painted in the tones of a nuclear warhead from the Cold War or a dormant cinder cone. In neighborhoods like Mission and Haight, this phenomenon reads for some residents as the eradication of the Latino community or the ongoing counterculture. Gentrification gray houses have become a totem of wealthy intruders. The rush of wealth to central cities is global in scope, but its impact has been particularly pronounced in San Francisco – all the more as the city is known to value its own uniqueness.

Some of these homes have accents of black or darker gray. Some are just the color of a stranded humpback whale. Many have the crispy oxidized planters full of succulents or geometrically austere horsetail plants straight from a dwell magazine page, while others feature brightly painted doors in the same off-neon palette as athleisure clothing.

To their proponents, they’re sleek and contemporary, with paintwork that can take a punch without ever looking dirty. To their critics, they’re unimaginative, historically inaccurate deviations that a wealthy biotech CEO who wears a gray Patagonia fleece vest every day will appreciate – or worse, real estate agents are pushing to add some appeal to a potential investment property in the country nobody is allowed to live.

“I had some concerns about painting our house gray, even though it’s a symbol of gentrification in the Mission,” says Kate Shaw, who lives with partner Dav Rausch in a Mission Victorian they bought in 2012. But the couple, a professional designer and a designer by Hobby, say gray was a “jumping off point” in “reinventing” the “shape” of their pre-1900 home.

A calendar shows a home with a color scheme on historic buildings in the Bay Area designed by Bob Buckter, an independent color consultant. Photo: Talia Herman / The Guardian

“Going towards monochrome might be interpreted as lazy, but getting those colors right is his own business. It’s an art in itself, ”she said of Facetime during a tour. “Color emphasizes the shape and not the other way around.”

“We hired a Latino crew led by a Latino who was laid off from my company,” added Shaw. “People said, ‘Hire him! He’s great and we want to make sure he’s looked after and cared for. ‘ His crew said, ‘We’re used to so much more color and we love that!’ They placed it at the top of their website as what they were most proud of. “

The notion that Victorian houses were traditionally polychromatic is as much a myth as is our contemporary notion of ancient Roman cities like Bone White. As a form of civic improvement, Roman buildings were brashly – garishly decorated by most modern standards – while San Francisco’s Victorians were likely relatively drab when first built.

“When these Victorians started they didn’t have that many color options – usually white or gray, lead-colored. You didn’t pick out the moldings, ”says architect David Baker, who lives in a gray house himself. “I think we shouldn’t take it seriously – it’s just color.”

But for Bob Buckter, known as Dr. Color, it is anything but just color. He has worked as an independent color consultant on historic buildings in the Bay Area for more than 50 years – around 18,500 by his count.

“I talk to people, find out what their taste is, what they like, what they don’t like, whether they are wild or conservative, whether they like dark blue or dark gray or polychrome, how they are dressed, how they design their interiors” he says in his gray-purple office with aubergine-colored curtains and hand-painted ceiling medallions.

Many Buckter customers return for a second or third treatment – in some cases a fourth. He takes a straightforward approach of giving the customer what he wants and tries not to impose his own taste on people. But the usual result is a uniquely harmonious mixture of colors, so that a monochrome, matte exterior appears contradicting his practice. Is it simply a taste preference or the mutilation of an irreplaceable treasure from an old sequoia tree?

“All of that. I’ve spent my life taking care of the architectural details of historic houses and other architectural things, and I want to find out the purpose that they let me in and make color. Whether the market is selling the building or Proud of ownership, I have to take care of all of that in my design, “says Buckter, who thinks I’ve done something.”

After consulting with so many homes and getting enough attention that his work has resulted in copycat jobs, it’s likely that Buckter shifted collective tastes in a certain direction. Consequently, the rise of the gray Victorian could be a reaction against his aesthetic.

Bob Buckter, known as Dr. Color, has consulted on nearly 18,500 historic buildings in the Bay Area – including his own home in the Mission. Photo: Talia Herman / The Guardian

“That can be part of it,” says Buckter. “I think the main reason is a trend towards simplicity and modernity. They are fed up with the polychrome look, some of these people. This trend has been noticed by others and some people just ride the wave of this trend. “

The lack of color annoys some longtime residents whose love for the sedate San Francisco homes has never diminished.

“I wish they’d make me the color officer for San Francisco so that people would check with me what colors they were using,” says artist and photographer Liz Mamorsky. “Some people try to do something good and restore a Victorian style, but they don’t quite get the colors right. You want that retinal flash that you get by having two complements of the same shade. “

Fred Messbarger, a 15-year-old homeowner in Mission, calls the gray trend “heartbreaking,” saying that the “beauty of San Francisco resides in the Victorians and Edwardians, and the contrast of the houses and the curves and the details – and that too.” Neighbors”. . One house could have completely different colors than the others. “

Messbarger had his Italian house repainted in turquoise, navy blue and white around 1870, with gold details and a neon green door. Everyone in the family had input and the response was positive.

“When I work outside in the garden or even leave the house, I keep getting comments and compliments,” says Messbarger. “It’s nice to hear because it took us five years to decide what to paint.”

“I didn’t think we were brave,” he adds. “I just thought we were bringing back color. The door is bold, but that’s our son’s fault. “

But sometimes gray is what happens when a diverse group tries to make a decision.

Eric Carlson owns a condominium in a four-story building that is home to a Latino family, a Greco-American family, and another single man. When it came time to repaint the “deep pale pink with white moldings” on the exterior, these very different people found it difficult to come to an agreement. After six weeks of looking at Swatches, everyone made lists of their top 4 and their two “absolutely not”. The result? Homburg Gray, with parchment white trim.

“I would have been fine with a much more expressive color,” says Carlson. “I was also aware that this had to be a consensus and that these were acceptable colors. Do i love her No. But does it look a lot better than what we had before? By and large, life is about compromise. I knew that by the early 20s there would be no appetite for a historically accurate color. “

If nobody really loves it, then why does gray seem to dominate?

“I think we’re in a strange place where this slate gray looks like a popular color and so is self-reinforcing,” says Carlson. “We are used to this dull palette of modern architecture, and it is boring. We are not exactly in the Baroque era of architecture. “

For some brokers, a dull tungsten gray coat can do more than just dampen the look. When a luxury real estate company bought the house next to Segovia and painted it gray, Segovia tried to put down the real estate agent and tell him that whoever bought the house would have a rock musician as a neighbor.

Cousins Maggie Guillen, 12, left, and Noe Zuleta, 14, sit on the front steps of their home in the Mission District. Photo: Talia Herman / The Guardian

“He wouldn’t pay any attention to me. So I said, ‘I’m going to take revenge on these fools.’ ”Segovia put his speaker system against the wall and slammed Metallica during the open house.

Eventually, the real estate company spent $ 40,000 to soundproof Segovia’s home studio so they could offload their property – to people who paid $ 750,000 and then four years later for $ 1.7 million to the current owner sold.

Segovia has been offered $ 2.5 million in cash for his home so many times that he threatened an aggressive agent with legal action.

“I’m not moving. I’m not going anywhere. I have my roots,” he says. “Working with kids, teaching kids music without asking for money. It’s about giving back to the community. Latin rock music is Made here in the mission district, so my aim is to keep that alive. “

As for the ongoing cruelty, “There should be a law,” says Segovia. “Enough is enough. For me they are prison colors.”

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) – San Francisco’s Director of Public Health, Dr. Grant Colfax, had a dire warning to residents on Friday as COVID-19 cases are increasing nationwide: If the virus continues to spread at the current rate, the city will run out of intensive care hospital beds by December 26th.

Mayor London Breed matched that perspective, saying if you are not ahead of the virus you are falling far behind very quickly.

To contain the spread, San Francisco is joining several other Bay Area jurisdictions to enforce a stay at home order prior to government action.

RELATED: Here’s What’s Closed on an Order for Staying Home in the Bay Area

Contrary to the plan announced by Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday, the Bay Area regional home stay order will go into effect that Sunday through January 6th.

San Francisco, along with other counties in the Bay Area, will opt for the governor’s regional Stay at Home Order starting Sunday at 10 p.m.

We are well on the way to running out of hospital beds for patient care the day after Christmas. We have to turn this around now. https://t.co/F0qwFnCb9e

– London Breed (@LondonBreed) December 4, 2020

Breed made it clear in her message on Friday that what San Francisco is going through is difficult, but “there is a light at the end of the tunnel”.

WATCH: Mayor Breed Says What San Francisco Is Going Through Is Difficult, But “There’s A Light At The End Of The Tunnel”

Hospital admissions and cases are increasing in San Francisco, and Dr. Colfax said those numbers are likely to get worse in the coming days and weeks.

The city is recording an average of 140 new cases per day, compared to just 34 per day in October.

“We were in a much better place then,” said Breed.

Colfax said the city has about a week to stabilize the number of COVID-19 patients in the city’s hospital system.

#BREAKING Starting Sunday December 6th, these activities are required to cease operations in San Francisco via @LondonBreed: hair and nail salons, hair salons / tattoos / beauticians, outdoor dining, open air museums, playgrounds

– Kate Larsen (@ KateABC7) December 4, 2020

“Our biggest fear all along is that we won’t have a bed for you or your mother or your grandmother or grandfather if they get sick,” said Breed. “(It’s) the reality we’ll face if we don’t slow the spread. The actions we’ve tried so far just haven’t turned the curve the way we need them to.”

RELATED: 5 Bay Area counties to announce new restrictions, sources say sources

As part of the Bay Area home stay arrangement, restaurants will be limited to take away and delivery, personal services such as nail salons and hair salons will be closed, and retail store capacity will be limited to 20%.

If the virus continues at the current rate, Dr. Colfax announced that San Francisco hospitals will be short of ICU beds by December 26th.
“If this trend continues and we don’t slow the spread of the virus, we will no longer be able to care for the people in San Francisco’s hospitals, not just because of the beds, but also because we won’t have enough nurses and doctors, to “adequately care for people,” warned Colfax.

According to Colfax, 75% of hospital beds in California are currently occupied.

“There will be no place to relocate patients. There will be no other place to hire more nurses or doctors, which we could otherwise do in a localized health crisis,” warned Colfax.

He emphasized that this is why the city is proceeding so “aggressively”.

“It’s going to be tough this time, but the alternative is unthinkable,” said Colfax.

In the past few months, NFTs have grown in importance as more and more people become interested in the latest cryptocurrency trend.

NFT, which stands for intangible token, acts as a digital collector’s item that people can buy and collect for monetary value. Sites like Open sea and NBA top shot are just a few of the marketplaces where people can buy NFTs.

Works like “Everydays: The First 5000 Days” by Digital artist Beeple has sold for $ 69 million on NFT marketplaces. Artists like Kings of Leon and retired UFC champion Khabib have also stepped into the NFT realm each Publications.

A local San Francisco art gallery known as Local Maker Mart premiered in San Francisco on March 25 – an online NFT auction on Twitch that allowed viewers to bid and buy works by various artists. The auction was held at the market between Green Street and Columbus Avenue in the North Beach district to bring local artists into the NFT scene.

Gregory Castellanos, the gallery’s CEO, sees the latest trends in NFTs as a signal for a new future in art.

Liam Skye, a local artist and Local Maker Mart Gallery resident, explains his NFT-based art to an audience as viewed on a touchscreen monitor in the Local Maker Mart Gallery. (Emily Curiel / Golden Gate Xpress) (Emily Curiel)

“I think it’s growing and it’s going to expand into the mainstream. I feel like there was this crucial point where it looks like it would quickly go away if it gushed, ”he said. “Now I have the feeling that it not only stays here, but also pushes [NFT’s] as moving technology forward and making it accessible to artists, ”he said.

Sponsored by NFT exchange platforms Digitalax and OpenSea, the gallery featured a variety of local artists including Liam Skye and Akeem Raheem. For Raheem and Skye, the event was an opportunity to immerse themselves in an excitement that has grown steadily over the past few months.

“I had heard some rumors about NFTs and what they were and how there was a digital art scene that had already broken out and I was kind of behind the ball,” Raheem said of his knowledge of NFTs before entering the auction .

The prices for the NFTs displayed ranged from $ 500 to $ 1,000. Those who participated in the auction were able to purchase the NFTs through QR codes that the gallery had displayed on monitors. Scanning the QR code would then take users to the OpenSea marketplace, where buyers could bid on the NFTs and view the moving items for some of them.

Each of the NFTs was displayed on a touchscreen monitor where visitors could click and read the premise and motivation for each work.

Although his art has been exhibited as NFT, artist Liam Skye said he was still skeptical of the whole concept.

“It’s kind of scary because you have no idea who it’s going to go to, like the whole thing, who owns the art, gives it value,” he said. “I won’t know who will act it. It’s not the same as when the person comes here or you sell it to them and know who you’re selling to, ”he said.

Anna Chili, a San Francisco artist, displays her paintings on a metal shelf for people to see at the Local Maker Mart Gallery.
Because of its uniqueness and limited quantity, artists like Raheem believe that the work chosen to be later minted and turned into an NFT must have some meaning.

“I try to choose because, on the one hand, I have too many pieces to shape them all and, on the other, I just want something that really reflects the urban culture we all know,” he said.

The term is coined when an artist inserts their work onto the blockchain, which is a type of digital record book that relates to cryptocurrency and shows all of the transactions made on the network. When an artist shapes his work, he makes his work immutable. This gives NFTs the uniqueness that there is nothing like it on the blockchain. It’s like one of one for a fashion item or someone else of monetary worth.

Castellanos hopes to make the auction a recurring event as the popularity of NFTs grows.

“I’m happy about this first one. It is always a learning experience the first time you host an event and we are pioneers in new waters here, ”said Castellanos. “So I would love to see this grow and develop. I hope we have a lot of success on our first auction, and we hope that we can do this more often and add this to the regular schedule if there is something we can do to help artists succeed. “

Trading the top 3 in the NFL draft to pick a quarterback has been a dangerous proposition for the past decade. The 49ers in 2021 are in a strong position to reverse a worrying trend for teams making such a move.

San Francisco was supposed to reach number 12 overall but unloaded a trio of picks from round one and round three selections to jump to third place, where they’ll likely pick up a quarterback they hope will he’ll be their caller for the next round, decade or more.

Five other teams have taken similar steps over the past 10 years, and none of them have been a complete success. Here are the five trades:

In 2018, jets were traded in third place for Sam Darnold

In 2017, Bären traded in second place for Mitchell Trubisky

In 2016, Rams was ranked # 1 for Jared Goff

In 2016, Eagles swapped for Carson Wentz up to 2nd place

In 2012, Washington was ranked # 2 for Robert Griffin III

Darnold hasn’t been good in three years and may not be in New York before his rookie contract expires. Trubisky has gone from bad to worse in his four years in Chicago and will be the second-largest quarterback in Buffalo for his fifth season. Goff was traded with the Rams after five seasons this off-season. Wentz was also traded this off-season following a 2020 disaster campaign. Griffin was injured in his freshman year and was never the same.

The 49ers are in a unique position compared to the previous five clubs that made trades up to the top three. They went 6-10 last year but have a Super Bowl-ready roster and would likely have fought for the NFC championship again last season if injuries hadn’t looted their roster all year round. None of the other clubs were near playoff berths.

The jets were 5-11 the year before Darnold’s draft. The bears were 3-13 before taking Trubisky. The Rams were 7-9 and needed a coach change before Goff arrived. The Eagles were also 7-9 and fired their mid-season coaching before advancing to Wentz. Washington was 5-11 the season before picking up Griffin.

Goff is a fascinating case because the Ram switched coach and took off in his sophomore year. Sean McVay’s magical touch came to an end at some point, however, and Goff’s shortcomings as a quarterback held her back.

Wentz had a good rookie year and an excellent second season before injuries turned the wheels off for him and the rest of the Eagles’ list. Doug Pederson, the coach who was there when he was drafted, was fired that off-season and Wentz was extradited.

San Francisco has an established coach, a good supporting cast and the luxury of not immediately pushing the rookie into a starting role. You can take the route the Chiefs took with Patrick Mahomes, but they can do so with the third choice instead of # 10. Kansas City the year before they acted through the tenth election to collect Mahomes, went 12-4 and went to the playoffs. They were a playoff team at 11-5 the year before.

While it’s an inaccurate science, history shows us that the player is less important than the situation they are going to go into. Talent can play a bigger role later in the design, and there are intangible mental things holding players back that the team just can’t explain. However, if you get in the top three, the talent pool will be exceptionally high. There aren’t many “bad” players who get into the top three, just like there are bad teams who pick good players and make them fail.

It is no accident that only one quarterback drafted into the top 3 in the last 20 years has claimed a Super Bowl victory (Eli Manning), and that of the 73 quarterbacks that have ever been drafted into the top 3 , only eight in pro football are hall of fame.

The draft is a relative crapshoot, but the 49ers this year are knocking down the odds in their favor in a way the team normally can’t. The Stars were aligned to make a good team, with enough injury issues to finish 6-10 and pecking high enough that they could cobble together enough design capital to finish in 3rd place overall. It’s an extremely unique luxury that none of the youngest teams to make the top three could afford.

Perhaps the 49ers pick will follow the path of the last five in the last decade, and the trend of getting into the top three continues to be a disaster. However, if one team were able to reverse this, it would be a championship-caliber team like San Francisco that took the step with the future in mind, not the present.
