Plans for a 13,000-square-foot food hall in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood have been canceled due to uncertainty over technicians returning to the neighborhood.

The Seattle PI first reported on the highly anticipated plans to bring San Francisco’s popular restaurant and market complex China Live to Westlake Avenue in February 2020, just a month before the COVID-19 pandemic hits the city and eats as we do know has changed.

The company had rented a space at Amazon’s headquarters on the corner of 8th Ave and Lenora near the Spheres and was hoping to open it in 2021 with a rotating selection of local groceries. After the virus outbreak and subsequent stay-at-home orders last spring, owners delayed the opening of the Emerald City outpost until 2022 and planned to switch to more contactless ordering options and pod-style seating.

However, according to Eater Seattle, those plans are not moving forward as owners have weighed the city’s economic recovery against the virus and many tech companies in the neighborhood may telecommute a large portion of their workforce and take away potential customers.

“We’re not going to do Seattle,” said George Chen, co-founder of China Live, on an episode of Eater’s Digest. “It’s not the right concept and location because, like any big secret company, Amazon won’t tell you whether or not their employees can work remotely.”

Guests dine in the main dining area of China Live in San Francisco, California on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. China Live is the new and ambitious restaurant and Chinese grocery store in Chinatown.Carlos Avila Gonzalez / The Chronicle

China Live opened in 2017 in San Francisco on an area of 30,000 square meters and was inspired by the Italian New York food complex Eataly. The Food Emporium offers a variety of options including casual table service and fine dining restaurants, cocktail bars, and retail stores selling condiments, teas, condiments, produce, cookware, and cutlery.

In the South Lake Union neighborhood, several high profile restaurant closings were closed during the pandemic, including two Tom Douglas restaurants in July 2020 popular with neighborhood workers for happy hours.

It is unclear when or if masses of technicians will return to the neighborhood. Amazon, which employs around 75,000 people in the Puget Sound area, appears to be cautious about reopening its offices and announced last fall that it would be extending corporate work from home until June 30, 2021.

However, some tech companies have begun making plans to return to the office as vaccination efforts increase. Facebook, the region’s fifth largest tech company, announced in March that 10% of its employees will be able to return to their offices in the Seattle area.

The news that the grocery hall will not have an outpost in town comes as King County is likely to fall back on Phase 2 of the state’s reopening plan this week. If the county rolls back, restaurants will have to cut capacity back down to 25%, adding another challenge to the city’s food scene.

The Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve features a lush forest with hiking trails. It’s part of the history of San Francisco. The name comes from a successful real estate investor and engineer, Adolph Sutro. In addition, it was part of the 13 hectares of land he had donated. This reserve is being preserved as an important natural resource. You agree to keep the website accessible and wise. The hiking trails and areas around the reserve are regularly maintained. The vegetation is avoided in order to avoid overgrowth. In addition, invasive sprouts are removed and trees are regularly pruned. There is also a security patrol that drives around the reserve.

A piece of woody heaven in the middle of SF. Great place to clear the mind on a long walk to the top. No view of the summit but a lot up and down on the way. Lots of little weird tributes lie around as you explore the less accessible trails. These hikes in the nature reserve help me overcome the quarantine. “- Carlos Prieto

We just dipped our feet in and left. We sat on a bench and enjoyed the view on a day that smoked everywhere but not here! Beautiful hiking trails meander around and through the golf course. I will definitely come again. There was enough parking space immediately behind the starting point. “- Janan Attia

The lush serpentine meadows can be seen on the railroad. One can also see the endangered Presidio Clarkia. In addition, native wildflowers bloom along the way. Towering redwoods, eucalyptus, oaks and cypress trees cover the area. Presidio’s largest watershed is the Ecology Trail. The El Polin Spring connects to the trail. Naturalists and hikers can enjoy the fresh air and the glittering view. It’s a wildlife hotspot with butterflies and hummingbirds fluttering around.

Fort Funston has sand dunes and sand martins. The sand dunes in the region are the largest remaining dune field on the peninsula. There are plants with tolerance to harsh conditions and deep roots. In addition, it has adapted to the ever changing landscape of the San Dune. You could also see how the bank swallowed. They are part of the endangered species. Their nesting sites are in Ano Nuevo and Fort Funston. There is also a hiking trail. It is wheelchair accessible. The circular trails are paved, but the hiking trails near the beach are not.

“A wonderful place to get some fresh air and do sports. The entire trail length can be covered in 45 minutes to an hour. There are sand dunes and the path leads down to a beach. There are cliffs that are quite a sight from below. On a good day there are gliders taking off from these cliffs and being cool to look at. It’s a dog friendly way. Lots of dogs here. The parking spaces are huge. I never had any problems parking there. “- Anna Amador

It has connecting paths to the Bay Area Ridge Trail, the California Coastal Trail, and the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail. In addition, the landscape offers native dune plants and flowers. With a bit of luck you can also see dolphins riding on the waves. Birds and butterflies fly around the bright flora.
