Allen Mitchell Obituary – Upland, CA (1940-2017)
Allen Ellsworth Mitchell, 76, of Upland, died August 21, 2017, in his family home built by his grandfather in 1927.
He was born October 30, 1940 in Upland, Ca. He was a plumbing, heating and air conditioning contractor for Allen T. Mitchell and Son for over 50 years and retired as President in 2007.
Allen was a graduate of the first graduating class of Upland High School in 1958. He was a varsity athlete in track and football. He was named Most Valuable Player as a fullback his junior and senior year. Allen cherished his coach and lifelong friend, Jerry Bell, and often told lengthy stories about his teammates.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his daughter, Amy Mitchell D’Andrea and husband, Dan D’Andrea of Alta Loma, and his son, Douglas Ryan Mitchell and wife, Lyssa Mitchell of Wrightwood, his sisters; Marlene Rodman of Los Gatos and Phyllis Peer Haas of Alta Loma, a brother; Tom Mitchell of Devore, and the love of his life; his six grandchildren.
Allen Mitchell was a thrill seeker, avid boat racer and participated in water ski races in the 60’s. He also enjoyed flying in the cockpit during aerobatic stunts. When Allen’s own children were old enough to participate in the excitement they started Jet Ski racing and Allen spent many summers traveling across the country with his son, Doug Mitchell and his nephew, Chris Peer. However, what Allen loved most was his family and sailing. His greatest accomplishment in life was his family. Allen took his final sail to Catalina Island on August 18, 2017 with Doug, his wife Lyssa, and their four children.
