Dr. Angelo K. OzoaFilipino philanthropist and beloved relative and friend, Dr. Angelo K. Ozoa died at his home on July 15, 2007 of heart failure at age 82. Born May 31, 1925 in Dumaguete City, Philippines, Ozoa earned his MD in 1954 at the University of the Philippines, where he first met his wife Natividad of 50 years. They married in Chicago in 1956 during their internships, where he earned a PhD in Pathology from the University of Chicago in 1966. After moving to Los Gatos in 1970 with their four children, Ozoa lived and worked in Santa Clara and Alameda Counties until his retirement in 1998 as Chief Medical Examiner-Coroner of Santa Clara County. His illustrious career also included work as Pathologist-Director of Laboratories of Woodlawn Hospital in Chicago and Valley West Hospital in Los Gatos.Ozoa served as President of philanthropic and professional organizations including the Philippine Medical Society of Northern California (PMSNC), the Philippine Profesional and Business Society of Santa Clara Valley, and the Maharlika Lions Club of San Jose. He was most proud of his role in directing and building the PMSNC Medical Missions program from 8 volunteers providing medical/surgical/dental services in rural Philippines for one week annually, to over 150 volunteers with a long waiting list. Ozoa earned recognition for his service and visibility, including Outstanding Alumnus of the Year, 1993, University of Philippines, San Francisco Chapter, and Outstanding Public Employee, 1994, Filipino American Public Employees in Santa Clara County.Angelo Ozoa was beloved by family and friends nationally and internationally for his wise counsel, abiding patience, unwavering integrity, and ability to inspire others to be their best. He is survived by his wife Natividad Florentes Ozoa, children Teresa Ozoa (husband Larry Ebiner), Cindy Ozoa Cannady (husband Derran Cannady), Steve Ozoa, Becky Ozoa (fiancé Dan O’Donnell), and grandchildren Angela Ebiner, Peter Ebiner and Miles Cannady.Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 22, 2007, 4-9 p.m. with a Vigil at 5:00 p.m. Lima Family Milpitas-Fremont Mortuary, 48800 Warm Springs Blvd, Fremont. A funeral mass will take place on Monday, July 23, 2007, 10 a.m., St. Joseph Church on 43148 Mission Blvd, Fremont, followed by burial at the above mortuary grounds. In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations are requested to the PMSNC Medical Missions (EIN: 94-2922490).
