Bucs get Yanks in ‘25 house opener

By Trib Total Media

A showdown between Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes and New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge was the talk of the MLB All-Star Game this week.

There could be a rematch in the Pirates’ home opener next season.

For the first time in franchise history, the Pirates will face the Yankees in their home opener, with the matchup set for Friday, April

4, at PNC Park.

The Pirates announced their

2025 schedule Thursday. They will open the season Thursday, March 27, at the Miami Marlins. It’s the ninth straight season the Pirates will open on the road and the second straight season they will do so in Miami. It’s also the earliest season opener in franchise history.

After a four-game series with the Marlins, the Pirates will travel to Tampa Bay for a three-game set before making their way home for the opener against the Yankees.

The Pirates won’t have a home game on any of the three traditional summer holidays. They’re at Arizona on Memorial Day, at Seattle on July 4 and off on Labor Day.

There are two nine-game homestands on the schedule: June 3-11 against Houston, Philadelphia and Miami, and July 18-27 against the White Sox, Detroit and Arizona.

The season ends Sunday, Sept. 28, after a six-game road trip to Cincinnati and Atlanta.
