Ex-Yankees star Alex Rodriguez is shifting on up after he ‘begged’ for Central Park West co-op, report says

Money is not everything.

The New York Post reports that former New York Yankees hitter Alex Rodriguez paid nearly $10 million for a Central Park West co-op “after initially being denied by the building’s board of directors.”

The Post reports that the board didn’t want anyone with Rodriguez’s “reputation” as an A-list celebrity. But Rodriguez eventually prevailed after “making a fuss” and “begging” for the unit.

“He almost didn’t get accepted and asked the board to take him on,” an insider told The Post. “He threw a tantrum and then they said ‘yes’.”

So what did 46-year-old Rodriguez get for $9.95 million? Here are the listing details for the three bedroom, 5.5 bath unit in the pre-war 1929 high-rise:

It’s the crown jewel of famed architect Emery Roth and one of the city’s most prestigious addresses, right across from the Natural History Museum and Central Park.

You enter through beautiful 8.5 foot French double doors into a central gallery that is spectacular for art. Here you will be struck by the volume of his house. You are likely to be seduced by a spacious 500 square meter living room with a wood-burning fireplace directly into the park. Alternatively, head into the beautiful oak paneled formal dining room with understated storage. The large bistro-style kitchen has restored original St. Charles cabinets and is stocked with professional appliances including two dishwashers.

Privately, you have a nearly 900 square foot master suite that includes two full bathrooms, a dressing area and a separate living room that could be used as a study or even a fourth bedroom. The second and third bedrooms are secluded and both have en-suite bathrooms and great views of tree lined West 82nd Street. There is also a powder room, separate staff room and full size laundry room.

Because this home is on a corner, it offers 16 outward-facing windows. …. From its beautiful and unique facade, recognizable from virtually any vantage point, to its lavish and ornate lobbies, The Beresford is one of a kind and the preferred home of a long list of notable and accomplished residents, past and present. This premier co-op offers the best in white-glove service, including full-time doormen, on-site management, a state-of-the-art fitness club, storage bins based on availability, bike storage and a central laundry facility.
