Fewer persons are shifting to California now, and it’s worse within the Bay Space

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – California, and the Bay Area in particular, continues to experience slowing population growth, according to a recent analysis by the California Policy Lab.
In the results released on Wednesday, the lab said that by the end of September 2021, compared to March 2020, an even lower rate of people had moved into the state – it’s 38% lower.
The rate of people leaving the state is now 12% higher than it was before COVID-19, the data shows.
Population growth has been particularly slow for the Bay Area since the pandemic began. The data shows that the rate of people moving to San Francisco, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties from abroad has decreased by 48–53%.

At the same time, more people were contacting moving companies and leaving California entirely.
Of all California counties, the lab said San Francisco is the only one where the county churn rate has increased more than 30%, meaning the number of people leaving San Francisco is increasing.
The California Policy Lab’s analysis used data from the University of California Consumer Credit Panel on residential locations for Californians with credit history.
