After the San Francisco 49ers’ staggering win over the Los Angeles Rams in Monday Night Football, the team had another staggering achievement when former CB Dre Kirkpatrick was released from Alabama.

The 49ers announced their decision on Tuesday afternoon via Twitter:

The # 49ers did without CB Dre Kirkpatrick.

Kirkpatrick was the Cincinnati Bengals’ first-round draft in 2012 and played 7 seasons for the club before joining the Arizona Cardinals in 2020 and the 49ers in 2021.

According to Chris Biderman, who covers the 49ers for the Sacramento Bee, the move wasn’t all that unexpected.

Biderman tweeted this about the situation:

Dre Kirkpatrick’s release isn’t a big step at first sight. But it’s remarkable considering how the first half of the season went. It signals that the 49ers are indeed ready to play Ambry Thomas and Deommodore Lenoir through a free agent on the street responsible for some really gritty games.

“Approving Dre Kirkpatrick isn’t a big step at first sight,” said Biderman’s tweet. “But it’s remarkable when you consider how the first half of the season went. It signals that the 49ers are indeed ready to play Ambry Thomas and Deommodore Lenoir through a street free agent responsible for some really gritty games.

Kirkpartick won two national championships while playing in Alabama and was the All-SEC second team in 2010 and 2011.
