Fox Information host will get roasted for tweets complaining about San Francisco streets

Last year, Fox News host Laura Ingraham tweeted eight times about San Francisco. None of them were positive.

Ingraham shared a photo of construction at the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and Filbert Streets and, as part of their anti-San Francisco crusade, complained that the city was apparently degrading itself through repairs.

“San Francisco is ruining itself in a different way … the war on cars,” tweeted Ingraham on Monday morning. “Everyone on bicycles, children.”

But, as many respondents noted, the lane Ingraham tweeted about was a bus lane. And others duly pointed out that children on bicycles are not as terrible a topic of conversation as Ingraham claims.

As part of the Van Ness Improvement Project, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency began construction of the corridor in 2016, which has suffered setbacks and other major delays.

She wasn’t one to row back, but instead turned from the anti-bike to the anti-bus – an hour later she tweeted that the construction was “a debacle on the first day”. (Along with an excavation that, of course, San Francisco is “a city of potholes”.)

She’s not entirely wrong on this point. It’s a bit of an thorn in the side, and the construction has been mangled. The delays come with real downsides, including the damage done to Van Ness business owners.

Building is inevitable for life in a big city. Almost every major American city has ongoing construction and road repairs, and likely many of them involve red tape and other problems as well. However, that does not mean the end of a city, as much as Ingraham would like to think.

We’ll update this story as Ingraham continues to weave threads about the demise of San Francisco’s auto culture.
