Hail Blankets Elements Of Bay Space; Snow Falls On Highest Peaks – CBS San Francisco

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) – A storm that moved through the Bay Area on Wednesday morning brought hailstones to cover some neighborhoods while snow dusted the highest peaks.

The Sonoma County sheriff’s office shared pictures of what looked like a scene from a snowy Midwestern town in Larkfield.

KPIX 5 meteorologist Mary Lee made it clear that while it looks like snow, hail quickly built up.

The Santa Rosa Fire Department said it responded to multiple crashes due to hailstorms and heavy downpours on Wednesday, including several on Highway 101.

Snow fell overnight on some of the highest peaks in the region. The National Weather Service said that up to a few inches of snow may have fallen at altitudes above 2,500 feet.

Numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms were expected to continue through Wednesday evening and end by early Thursday morning for the Bay Area, but last through Thursday across the Central Coast, the weather service said.
