SAN JOSE — Family and friends are mourning a Los Gatos woman who was killed last week in a Highway 101 crash that led to the DUI arrest of the car’s driver.

Julianne Jasmine Quirazco, 22, was a passenger in a 2007 Volkswagen heading southbound approaching Bailey Avenue around 6:05 a.m. Feb. 11 when the driver lost control and hit a guardrail, causing the car to face the wrong way, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car was then hit by an oncoming 2007 Hyundai, killing Quirazco and seriously injuring the Volkswagen driver.

Quirazco died at the scene. The driver of the car she was riding in, 27-year-old Brandon Gates of Gilroy, was rushed to the hospital and later arrested on suspicion of DUI. The driver of the Hyundai, a 47-year-old Oakley man, was treated for moderate injuries.

Quirazco was born in San Francisco but lived most of her life in Los Gatos, attending school there, including Los Gatos High School, according to an obituary published in this newspaper. She recently worked at the Wine Cellar restaurant in Old Town Los Gatos.

In the obituary, family remembered Quirazco as someone who was caring and selfless and amassed a number a friends who conveyed an “enormous outpouring of love” in the wake of her death. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday in Los Gatos.
