Jerry Lee Slayton
Ojai, CA
Jerry Lee Slayton, 81 years young, went to be with his Jehovah on Aug. 24, 2016.
Born in the Texas Panhandle to Astel and Cathrein Slayton, he moved with his family to California when he was about 8 years old. He spent his young days picking cotton along side his mother. He attended Los Gatos High School, and did a tour of duty with the US Air Force during the Korean War. After that, he went to trade school to become a plumber. Most of his years were spent in Los Gatos and San Jose, CA where he worked hard as an Industrial Plumber to provide for his family. He worked his way up the ladder of the plumbing ranks at ThermaTrain to finally retire as a Foreman with local union 393.
Jerry was married and divorced twice, both women pre-deceased him: Dorothy Underwood and Virginia Cramer. Between these two women he became “Dad” to 5 children: Veronica Norman, Jay Slayton, Darril Slayton (deceased), Charlotte Slayton, and Andrew Slayton. He left a legacy of 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren scattered from coast to coast. He is survived by his brother Jack Slayton and sister Jesse Brown.
Dad had a quirky sense of humor and loved to laugh. He always wanted to help people, and spent most of his last years in Ojai, CA with his church family sharing the gospel and trying to help others get on their feet. May he find heaven “Wonderful” and “New and exciting!”
Memorial will be held at Kingdom Hall 1015 Tico Rd Ojai, CA 93023 at 2pm on Sep. 24, 2016.
