It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Patrick Connolly, DDS, at the age of 87 on August 14, 2023, of cardiac arrest with loving family surrounding him. Jack had suffered a stroke after knee replacement surgery in 2019 and was recovering well until his sudden passing. He never complained. Jack was born in San Francisco on June 23, 1936 to John and Niceta Connolly. He was raised in the City and attended St. James Grammar School and Riordan High School before attending Stanford University where he completed his B.A. degree in Biology in June of 1958. Jack was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity at Stanford. Jack was in ROTC in college and achieved the rank of Captain. He attended the University of the Pacific Dental School and was affiliated with Psi Omega fraternity and a past president. He graduated in June of 1964 with a degree in Dental Surgery DDS. Jack had a dental practice in Milpitas and Saratoga and practiced for 55 years. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Omega Dental Honor Society and a life member of the California Dental Association. Jack was very active in the local community. He was past president of the Santa Clara County Dental Society and headed many other committees throughout the years even to Hawaii and the Caribbean. Jack married Marion Connolly on August 1st, 1964, at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, where Jack was a member for 79 years, Joining as an 8-year-old. They raised three children in Saratoga, Suzanne, John (Raquel), and Tim (Kit).Jack was always there for his children and family, rushing home after a day’s work to coach soccer, be at every swim meet, and attend every tennis competition of his boys from grade school through college or at Saratoga High football games, as Suzanne headed the song girl team. He supported the children academically and encouraged their goals to attend the best universities. Jack loved his role as grandparent. He was always anxious to be with Isabella, Jack, Josie, & Shea. They were very good athletes and made sure he was at their games. The grandchildren loved his humor; he was Grandpa Jack. Jack was an intellectual. He was the best competitor at Jeopardy, he had a quick Irish wit and a talent for storytelling, he knew everything about any subject. He could take one on a trip anywhere in the world with his knowledge of history and the atlas. Jack loved his home that he built and his gathering of family and friends. He was a good cook and loved to barbeque. For many years he was a member of the Physician’s Food and Wine Society. He spent summers in Napa with his relatives as his family got away from the fog of San Francisco. Jack loved to travel and especially loved his visits to Ireland, where his family had property. Jack will be missed by all who knew and loved him. It will never be quite the same without him.May he rest in peace.The burial will be private with a memorial mass celebrating Jack’s life on September 29, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Los Gatos at 11:00 AM. 219 Bean Avenue, Los Gatos, CA 95030.Jack would love for you to donate to a cause that is close to your heart.
