John Masero Obituary – Los Altos, CA


John Kenneth Masero 1947 – 2014 Resident of Los Altos On February 24, with his wife and son by his side, John Masero lost an 8-month battle with mesothelioma. A lifelong Bay Area resident, he was born in Oakland, raised in Los Gatos and Los Altos. He also lived for many years in San Jose.

John is survived by his wife Regina Masero, son Michael Masero, sisters Mary Vadeboncoeur and Ann Simpson, former wife Susan Masero-Hart and stepchildren David and Stacey Elder. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Virginia Masero and younger brother James Masero.

He attended St Francis High School in Mountain View, Foothill and De Anza Colleges and San Jose State. He served with the U.S. Army in Schweinfurt, Germany from 1970 – 1972.

John worked in his father’s business, Masero Laboratories, at mining and as a metallurgist. Later he joined the Sunnyvale Elementary School District Operations and Maintenance Department as a groundskeeper, then maintenance worker and advanced to HVAC technician.

John will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, caring brother, uncle, and friend. He was passionate about his dogs, operating trucks and tractors, fishing, and spending time at the family cabin. John was a “jack-of-all-trades” and readily helped others. He was an active member of Optimist International. John attended Grace Bible Fellowship in Mountain View with Regina.

A memorial service will be held for John on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 4:00 PM at Spangler Mortuary, 174 N. Sunnyvale Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086. If you wish to donate in John’s honor, charitable contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
