Just one San Francisco restaurant makes TripAdvisor’s ‘Better of the Greatest’ eating places listing

On Wednesday, TripAdvisor published its 2021 Travelers’ Choice “Best of the Best” restaurant awards, and only one San Francisco restaurant made it.

The Kokkari Estiatorio took 10th place in the annual ranking in the “Fine Dining” category.

“Always the best,” says one of the reviews on TripAdvisor.

Kokkari has long been a San Francisco establishment, known for its wood-fired rotisserie meat and Greek flavors.

Kokkari is more than two decades old and seems like a fairly safe and straightforward choice. Former food critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, Michael Bauer, wrote about the restaurant in the Financial District in 2015: “With the smell of oregano and burning embers, guests could imagine themselves on the Greek islands. For those who dream of going there, the simple, pure food at Kokkari is an incentive to fulfill that wish. “

TripAdvisor restaurant awards are calculated based on the “quality and quantity of traveler reviews and ratings” from January 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021. This year the awards were given in eight categories: gourmet cuisine, everyday dishes, fast food, picture-perfect restaurants, date night, best brunch spots, hottest new restaurants and best vegan spots.

Kokkari wasn’t the only Bay Area hotel to break through in the fine dining category. Three North Bay restaurants have also made the list, including Valette in Healdsburg (# 17), The French Laundry in Yountville (# 21), and Bistro Jeanty (# 22), also in Yountville.

Gott’s Roadside in St. Helena also made it onto the list of the best quick bites and landed at number 15.
