Larry Moroney, 84, died peacefully at home on March 9, 2023, surrounded by his beloved wife Margaret and daughter Linda.
LARRY'S FUNERAL MASS WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15, 2023, AT 1:00 PM AT ST. BRENDAN CHURCH, 29 ROCKAWAY AVE., SAN FRANCISCO. A celebration of life will follow the Mass.
Born in Ireland on July 22, 1938, Larry spent his youth swimming in the River Shannon in County Roscommon with his 11 siblings. At the age of 18, he emigrated to England and then to San Francisco where he settled. In 1958, Larry was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served for two years. Upon his return, Larry played Irish football for the championship team in 1960 and 1961 and was inducted into the San Francisco GAA Hall of Fame.
In 1965, he met the love of his life, Margaret, at the Carousel Ballroom, and just over a year later they were married, making the O'Brien, Moroney and McNulty clans one family. In 1967, Larry and Margaret had their daughter, Linda. Larry worked as a plumber and was always there to help friends and neighbors when they needed help. Larry was a founding member of the United Irish Cultural Center and a regular presenter, joke teller and musical talent on the annual Connaught trip. In his later years, Larry loved nothing more than attending 49ers and Giants games with his grandchildren, Danielle and Rory, and once even made a pilgrimage to spring training.
Larry was predeceased by his parents Michael and Margaret as well as his siblings Michael (May), Patricia (Jimmy), Philomena, Tommy, Nancy (Kevin) and Myra.
Larry is survived by his wife Margaret, his daughter Linda Moroney Grady, his son-in-law Chris, his grandchildren Danielle and Rory, his sisters Nuala (Con), Christine, Mildred (Billy), his brothers Vincent (Betty) and Willie (Nuala) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a funeral mass in Larry's honor on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Brendan Church, 29 Rockaway Ave, San Francisco, CA. A celebration of life will follow the mass.
