Marie McCool On Athletes Limitless Lacrosse – CBS San Francisco

(CBS local) – Marie McCool is one of the best lacrosse players in the world and will have the opportunity to show everyone how good she is in a brand new professional lacrosse league for women called Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse. The league will air one of its games each week on the CBS Sports Network.
CBS Local’s DJ Sixsmith spoke to McCool ahead of the games this weekend to discuss the new and innovative way the game of lacrosse is played, the importance of growing the game for the next generation, and her fondest memories of winning a championship at the University of North to speak Karolina in 2016.

“It was really amazing. I was able to play softball and volleyball when I first started and I was even more excited to be part of Athletes Unlimited for the first season of lacrosse, ”said McCool. “My favorite part so far is being able to play at a high level and being with some of my best friends and building even more relationships. We are all in the same hotel and we have a lot to do with each other. It was great to see familiar faces and meet new friends. “
One of the interesting things about Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse is that players get their own individual scores based on their performance and the performance of their team. In one week, McCool has 315 points, which puts her in the top 20 overall. The field got a little smaller for this league and the quarters a little shorter to keep the action going.

“Doing it differently is something we are seeing now with the scoring system and our teams that change every week,” said McCool. “This is a new experience for all of us and we all learn what works and what doesn’t. Since lacrosse is a team sport, we’re used to building that chemistry and playing with the same people, so it was different. I really enjoy being able to play with different people every week and what the best combinations are. “
The 2016 NCAA national champion has been playing lacrosse since she was a child and one of the most exciting things for McCool is to be a role model for the next generation of lacrosse players, especially because she had no lacrosse role models – check out when she was younger.
“I was asked the other day who your lacrosse role model is and I couldn’t really answer it because when I was young I never got to see it on TV until I got involved with UNC and it was livestreaming with a camera streaming the game live on a random website. Just seeing how people look up to us and the college game this year has made me very proud of where our sport has grown over the years and we still have a really long way to go. “
