Marilyn Juncker Marilyn Juncker, long time Sausalito resident whose medical career spanned almost four decades in the fields of surgical nursing and administration of health services, died on April 17, 2014, following a courageous nine-year battle with cancer. She was 84 years old. Marilyn was born in Salinas in 1930, daughter of Alfred and Christine Juncker who had emigrated to this country from Denmark. She attended UCLA, where she pledged Alpha Chi Omega sorority, then moved on to Stanford for her professional training and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1953. She was an operating room nurse at Stanford for 10 years before relocating to Marin and becoming a school nurse and Coordinator of Health Services in the San Rafael School District, positions she occupied for 26 years. Marilyn moved to a bay view apartment above downtown Sausalito in 1965, where she lived for 49 years until her death. During her retirement years, she was active in an array of professional and community activities. Among them: board member, Marin County Dental Care Foundation; co-founder, Sausalito Chamber of Commerce Visitor Information Kiosk; member, Sausalito Disaster Preparedness Committee, Golden Gate Tallships Society and Sausalito Village; volunteer, Bayside School visitor information team, Ice House Visitor Information Center, and Sausalito Art Festival. In 2003, she was the recipient of the Sausalito Chamber of Commerce “Frank Papouschek Award for Outstanding Community Service.” Marilyn’s favorite pastimes were tennis, hiking, symphony concerts and travel, in the course of which she visited countries throughout Europe and Asia. Ms. Juncker is survived by her brother Rod Juncker and his wife Judy of Los Gatos; her nephews Rick and his wife Krista of San Jose and Jeffrey and his wife Dana of Los Gatos. Her grand nieces and nephew are Hailey, Kaya, Tori and Ryan. Hers was a close family, as attested to by the “My Hero Award” drawing sent to her by six-year-old Tori a few months before she passed away: “The award goes to Tante Marilyn,” it said, “because you are so nice.” Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (P.O.
