SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – To the cheers of the crowd along its route, a 139-year-old Victorian house in San Francisco snaked its way down Franklin Street on Sunday as the crews gently moved the building to its new location on Fulton Street.

The move – the first in town in nearly 50 years according to the San Francisco Historical Society – caused a sensation on social media and a flood of postings.

Teresa and Dan Newmark and their 7-year-old daughter Madeleine were among those who gathered to watch the move.
“It’s like a Mardi Gras procession,” Dan Newmark told the San Francisco Chronicle.
“It’s a one-time thing,” added Teresa. “You hear that when an earthquake happens.”
San Francisco realtor and Victorian home owner Tim Brown had to pay approximately $ 200,000 for various permits and fees associated with the move.

Home’s former location at 807 Franklin St. is to become an eight-story, 48-unit apartment building, while the moved Victorian at 635 Fulton St.
