As Los Gatos continues its “Summer of Sounds” with Jazz on the Plazz, Music in the Park and the popular weekly Santa Cruz Avenue Promenade, local restaurants and watering holes are joining with their own live music.

Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company has live music Fridays and Saturday evenings (, Charley’s LG has salsa every Thursday ( and Number One Broadway rocks Wednesday through Saturday with a great lineup of music (

“Los Gatos benefits from attendees who go to our restaurants, hotels and do some shopping,” says Stephen Shelton, owner/manager of Lexington House Restaurant. “The shows serve as a first introduction to Los Gatos for those who come for the great music.”

Los Gatos lawyer Miriam Behman Brody says, “I always show up and am an ardent supporter of our local businesses.”

Janet Penny enjoys dancing to the music and says, “I never miss a Promenade.”

Upcoming Promenades include July 7 with Kurt & Johnny and Daze on the Green and July 14 with Cabana Boys and The Complications.

A beer stroll may be in the town’s future, as the former site of Flights and Hult’s is set to become a full-service brewery. This newcomer will join Out of the Barrel, Loma Brewery and Hapa’s.

The new outdoor patio at Double D’s looks great and will look even better when the Los Gatos town sign and wall are put in place to match the ones in front of Out of the Barrel. There’s bound to be a lot of happy action at the town entrance.

As the weather continues hot, you might want to try Humphry Slocombe’s Secret Breakfast ice cream in Local Kitchens at Lester Square. Two secret ingredients: bourbon ice cream with cornflake cookies.
