Duane Haugen, 63, Daly City, CA, formerly of the Makoti area, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Seton Medical Center in Daly City.
Duane was born November 12, 1949 to Trygve E. and Beatrice (Moffitt) Haugen. He attended school in Makoti through his junior year, when he transferred to Parshall High School graduating with the class of 1967.
Following graduation, he went to work in Minot until joining a seismograph crew based out of Wyoming. In 1969, Duane moved to Mt. View, CA to start his career at Standard Oil/Chevron.
Duane was once married to Georgia Avery from Parshall, ND on May 25, 1970 in Sunnyvale, CA. This union was blessed with three children, Shannon, Jason and Shar.
Duane received his license for D&H Plumbing based out of Los Gatos, CA in October 1977. He would own and operate the business until health issues forced his retirement in September 1993.
Duane was joined in marriage for a time with Nancy Tripp and her son, Michael in August 1980.
Duane was involved in a serious snowmobiling accident in 1998 between Makoti and Ryder, ND leaving him as a paraplegic and with additional health issues for years after the accident.
Duane enjoyed dancing, playing cards, snowmobiling, fishing, camping and was known to travel. He also cherished time with his family and friends.
Duane is survived by his sister, Cheryl Nielsen, Springfield, OR; children, Shannon (Joanie) Haugen, Livermore, CA, Jason Haugen, San Jose, CA, & Shar Lynn, Long Beach, WA; grandchildren, Grady & Adeline Haugen and a nephew, Jamie Nielsen, Vancouver, WA
Duane was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot, ND
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND
Visitation: Monday, November 11, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti.
