San Francisco 49ers DT Javon Kinlaw out for season after knee surgical procedure

SANTA CLARA, California – San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw’s second NFL season is over.
After spending most of the 2021 season treating a nagging problem with his right knee, Kinlaw was seen by Dr. Neal ElAttrache is operating in Los Angeles, which will end his season early.
Niners coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Kinlaw will soon land on the injured reserve in hopes the 24-year-old will finally be free from the knee problems that have plagued him.
“There are a lot of things in there that they found and things like that,” Shanahan said. “I think the good news is that they feel like they have solved the problem. Obviously it hurts that he won’t be with us this year. … [The doctor] believes he has found the topic and thinks this will be good news for us next year. “
Ranked # 14 overall in the 2020 draft, Kinlaw came into the NFL with questions about a pesky knee that caused him to leave the 2020 Senior Bowl, and then had more issues at the end of his rookie season that resulted in he missed the final two games of 2020.
Kinlaw’s 2021 season ends with eight tackles and a quarterback hit in four games. If the 49ers lose Kinlaw to injured reserve, they are expected to defend Kevin Givens from that list as he recovers from a high ankle sprain.

Aside from Kinlaw, the 49ers have many other problems on the defensive. You could do without Dee Ford (concussion) and Samson Ebukam (ankle) against the Chicago Bears on Sunday and have to do without the failed defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (calf). Ford is listed as dubious and Ebukam as questionable, which means likely activation of defensive end Jordan Willis off the reserve / blacklist to create depth.
But the line of defense isn’t the only place the 49ers will have to make some adjustments this weekend due to injuries.
Left tackle Trent Williams is considered questionable as he continues to struggle with ankle and elbow problems. Williams participated in limited training on Friday, a step in the right direction after not training and sitting out last week’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
“The fact that he was out there was a good sign,” Shanahan said. “Again we’re only doing things at half speed so he didn’t challenge much, but he moved and could do it. We’ll take that flight and see how he reacts tomorrow and hopefully he’ll keep doing it.” get better and it won’t get worse. “
In better injury news, the Niners will greet rookie quarterback Trey Lance back from the left knee sprain that prevented him against the Colts. Lance got through the week of training with no problems and will serve as a backup for Jimmy Garoppolo, although Shanahan pointed out that Lance has the potential to play situationally.
“I thought he was getting better every day,” Shanahan said. “On his first day out there on Wednesday, we gave him a few limited reps. He felt fine on Thursday and we pushed him even harder on Thursday, and he came in today, just talked to him, he had no setbacks and.” so i feel good to go with him. “
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel (Wade) is also not listed on the injury report after he dropped out of practice on Wednesday.
