San Francisco Giants vs Cincinnati Reds – Might 19, 2021

The Cincinnati Reds (19-21) will try to end their two lost games against the San Fransisco Giants (26-16) tonight at 6:40 p.m. Tonight is going to be an uphill battle for the Reds. The Giants now have the best record in baseball and their current starting pitcher has an ERA of 1.84. The Reds must win both of their last two games against the Giants to keep their current streak of six straight defeats alive.

Start pitchers

Wade Miley gained full starting experience in the big league during the last road trip. He threw a no-hitter in Cleveland and then gave up 8 earned runs in Denver. The last launch skewed its numbers quite a bit, but Miley was everything the Reds hoped for by 2021. Miley has a career of 3.60 ERA in 13 appearances (12 starts) against the Giants.

The Reds certainly saved Kevin GasumanCareer. He had an ERA of 6.19 when the Reds called him from the exemptions in August 2019. Gausman has been 15th in the MLB at fWAR (3.5) since Aug. 8, 2019, and his 2.99 ERA and 2.90 FIP rank 8th and 5th best in the MLB of Any Pitcher with 135+ IP .

The good news is that Gausman has a career 9/11 ERA in 4 starts against the Reds. Gausman has also insanely allowed 1 ER or less in every start this season except one on April 13 against the Reds: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 2 HR.

Starting grid

Tyler Stephenson and his .830 OPS career starts tonight on the first base while Moustakas isn’t there yet. It looks like a day off Tyler Naquin. He currently has a hit rate of 5 games and an OPS of 0.924 in the last 8 games. It’s hard to take your racket off the line-up, but it’s important to keep in mind that no more than 89 games have been played in a season since 2016.

Conclusion

Today’s match doesn’t look good for the Reds on paper. Let’s hope the small selection of Reds who are the rare team that Gasuman meets becomes a trend. Go Reds!
