San Francisco officers shoot auto housebreaking suspect

SAN FRANCISCO – Plainclothes police officers shot and injured a suspected car theft in San Francisco on Friday, authorities said.

Central Station officials were investigating a car break-in at around 12:50 p.m. when they found a suspicious vehicle occupied by at least three people on Varney Place near 3rd Street, the San Francisco Police Department said in a press release.

“There was a shooting in which a suspect was hit by an officer,” the police said.

According to police, the officers helped the suspect until the paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital. The suspect’s injuries were not classified as life-threatening, the police said.

The alleged vehicle left the scene with the other occupants, the police said.

The shooting is being investigated by the Independent Investigations Bureau of the San Francisco District Attorney, the SFPD Investigative Services Division, the SFPD Internal Affairs Division, and the Department of Police Accountability.
