San Jose murder suspect arrested in San Francisco

SAN JOSE — A man suspected in the fatal shooting of a Redwood City man outside a San Jose bar earlier this month was arrested Wednesday night in San Francisco, according to police.

The San Jose Police Department’s Covert Response Unit arrested 24-year-old San Jose resident Lejon Terrel Rhodes in connection with the killing of 44-year-old Jamal Wright in the early morning hours of Dec. 2.
Rhodes was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail, according to jail records.
The shooting occurred outside a bar on East Santa Clara Street between North 24th and 25th streets, police said. Responding officers found a mortally wounded Wright, who was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators have not disclosed a motive in the shooting, which marked the city’s 30th homicide of the year. There have been 32 homicides in San Jose to date in 2017, a number that rose after the fatal shooting of a robbery suspect by an armed security guard at a Walgreens in downtown San Jose earlier this week.
Anyone with information about the Wright case can contact SJPD homicide Det. Sgt. John Barg or Det. Wayne Smith at 408-277-5283 or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-STOP or svcrimestoppers.org.
