The San Francisco Fire Department said Sunday afternoon that people should avoid the intersection of Grant Avenue and Geary Street, as there was ruptured underground steam pipe causing visible steam.
This all started around 11 a.m. near Geary and Grant.
Grant Avenue between Geary and Post streets were closed to the public. But no evacuations were ordered and no one was hurt.
911 calls were coming in about what looked like smoke coming from manhole covers.
It turns out that nothing was on fire. But a steam pipe did burst.
While police helped block off the area, firefighters tried to find the break.
It’s not clear if the steam pipe and water main break were connected. Crews were working to repair the broken pipe.
