SJ Launches ‘Seize Crime’ Surveillance Program

SAN JOSE, CA — The San Jose Police Department has unveiled a new pilot program designed to provide small businesses and vendors in high-crime areas with free surveillance cameras and hard drives.

City officials said the “Capture Crime Pilot Program” is an initiative that originated in a budget request from Mayor Matt Mahan in 2022 to improve security measures at designated shopping centers and commercial hubs associated with higher crime rates.

Building on the “SJ CAM” program and previous work by former Mayor Sam Liccardo, the new pilot program focuses on key areas known for “heightened criminal activity.” Business owners in those areas can opt-in to receive surveillance equipment at no cost.
