Heber has rejoined the Firm in San Francisco as a partner in its Tax, Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice. Previously at Manatt for over a decade, Heber regularly counsels both emerging and established companies on a wide range of complex tax, executive compensation and employee benefits-related matters in the context of business transactions and throughout their business life cycle.

Heber represents public and private companies in a wide variety of tax, strategic and regulatory issues—including the tax structuring of business transactions, diligence and related corporate governance issues, executive compensation, and employee benefits matters. He regularly advises—at the board, board committee and executive officer levels—on business exit strategies, executive contract negotiations and related SEC reporting. He also has extensive experience with the Employee Retirement Income Securities Act (ERISA) as well as with federal and state securities laws with respect to executive compensation reporting.

In addition to the design, implementation and administration of domestic and international compensation and benefits programs, Heber regularly advises on trends in compensation practices and tax-efficient pay strategies.

There were many other theaters. There were some that I call one-offs that I only built once for. I stayed with some of them for 10 or 20 years. There were several companies that I stayed with. When their productions showed up, I went ahead and made them. Sometimes I was technical director, sometimes I designed. Of course, at that age, I had a lot more energy.

Usually the technical director oversees all technical elements – that doesn’t mean he or she does them all. I would make sure we have the people on the ground and the equipment. My focus was on construction and painting. That was my strong point, but we usually hired people for sound, light, video and so on. It’s similar here, my strengths are building, painting. I do a lot with software, down to background scenes when we need them. Eric Seale will take care of much of the video. I don’t do a lot with video. I have the software, I just don’t know how to use it.

Process for set ideas

Usually we have an initial production meeting where we come up with the idea. There is a lot of give and take for what we want. I read the script. Maybe I’ll go to other shows and then finally formulate what I think, and at the first production meeting I present my designs and thoughts through photos or quick little drawings, then it goes on.

Once we have decided where to go, I’ll start rendering and drawing. Once that’s done, I started a big call for volunteers and that’s it. The volunteers come in and we have it built and painted. It pretty much follows the designs. Every now and then there will be a little change, but not often. We do 10 shows a year and there is no time for changes.

In early December, a survey published by the National Restaurant Association found that more than 110,000 restaurants across the country were permanently closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This month that number has certainly increased as both indoor and outdoor eating are banned across California. We know we’ve lost a lot of famous spots in the Bay Area this month alone: the historic Cliff House, for example, and the 100-year-old Far East Cafe Chinese banquet restaurant (although note that a SF regulators is a $ 1.9 million aid plan in progress to target Chinatown’s struggling eateries (including Far East Cafe) Order takeaway from your favorite eateries if you can as this is likely just the start of a very harsh winter is.

Devil’s Slide Taproom

The six-year-old Pacifica restaurant and beer bar closed on December 18, according to Eater. “The taproom became much, much larger than just a local pub: it became a second home for many people …”, the announcement on its website said.
