A leading gynaecologist’s car was secretly bugged by her jealous former handyman after he mounted a surveillance operation on her activities when she broke off their brief relationship.

Dr Marie Gerval, 52, drove her Renault Megane around the neighborhood unware 58-year-old tradesman Kelvin James had placed a tracker device on the engine to check if she was meeting up with other men.

Dr Gerval, who lives in London and treats women in specialist NHS menopause clinics, only found out she had been bugged after she was pulled over on suspicion of drink-driving when James tracked her to a local pub.

She passed a roadside breath test and when she asked why she had been stopped, police said an ‘anonymous caller’ had called them falsely claiming she was drunk behind the wheel.

The court heard James falsely reported Dr Gerval for drink-driving after she had met a friend at a bar near her home. After providing a negative roadside test, police told her they had pulled her over after receiving an ‘anonymous tip off’

Suspicious the culprit was James as they were still meeting as friends, Dr Gerval confronted him and he admitted getting a local garage to install the tracker whilst he had borrowed it for an afternoon. She later said she was so distressed at being followed she suffered hair loss due to alopecia.

At Wigan Magistrates’ Court James from Orrell near Wigan who admitted stalking was ordered to wear an electronic tag to monitor his own movements under the terms of a 12-week curfew order from 7pm-7am.

He was sentenced to a 12-month community order with a requirement he complete 13 rehabilitation activity days and was banned from contacting Dr Gerval for 12 months under the terms of a restraining order.

Steve Woodman, prosecuting, said: ‘Dr Gerval first met Mr James back in April 2020. She needed some work doing to the guttering and so looked for a tradesman through a directory app. She found James on the app and he carried out the work for her,

‘During this period they formed a relationship which developed into a romantic involvement, albeit for a short time. It lasted from about late 2020 to early 2021.

‘After their relationship ended, they maintained a distant friendship via text in the months after. In the summer of 2021, Gerval noticed that James was suffering with his mental health. Being a health professional and a friend she reached out to James and agreed to meet him.’

The court heard James borrowed Dr Gerval’s Renault Megane and returned it having fitted a tracker. After she received the car, Dr Gerval received a series of jealous texts from the handyman when she rebuffed his attempts to resume their relationship.

On November 16, Dr Gerval went to meet a friend at the Britannia pub in the Upholland area of ​​Lancashire. After leaving the pub she was pulled over by police on suspicion of drink-driving. She passed the breath test and was told they had received an ‘anonymous tip’ that she had been drunk.

James later admitted to fitting the tracker which would update him on Dr Gerval’s whereabouts.

The court heard James had a previous conviction for harassment from 1998.

In sentencing, chairman of the magistrate Jean Hamilton said: ‘Although this has clearly caused the complainant serious stress and harm it was a relatively isolated incident.’

James was also made to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £95. Magistrates rejected Gerval’s demand for compensation for alopecia care costs saying: ‘This is an issue better suited to the civil courts.’

FIFPRO, a global federation of 66 soccer player unions, has published its Charter of Player Data Rights and accompanying research report to provide a player-centric view of managing technology and innovation in the sport.

Developed in conjunction with FIFA over the past two years, the FIFPRO charter seeks to align the interests of all parties in deploying technology while ensuring basic athlete rights around privacy and access. The eight primary personal data guarantees that FIFPRO wants to ensure are:

• The Right To Be Informed
• The Right To Access
• The Right To Revoke
• The Right To Restrict Processing
• The Right To Data Portability
• The Right To Rectification
• The Right To Complain
• The Right To Erasure

Of the 119 male and female players surveyed across 10 national player unions by FIFPRO, 80% indicated they want access to their own data to improve performance. The charter is a statement of standards but not a governing document; the athletes hope to collectively bargain these rights with their respective leagues.

When a building’s HVAC system fails, timing is everything.

The sooner a system is up and running again, the better, and every minute with a system down is a minute where a building’s occupants are uncomfortable, office appointments may need to be canceled, and, in some cases, landlords may have to offer rent Abatements to make up for the inconvenience.

Dowd shared a story about a medical office building in Chevy Chase, Maryland, that experienced an outage to both of its chillers — shutting down cooling to the entire facility. The building had gone through a repositioning a few years earlier, and while some of the air handling systems had been replaced, the old chillers had remained untouched. At this point, he said, these chillers had reached the end of their life expectancy and as a result, when one failed, they both shut down, creating a serious issue for the facility.

Boland was able to install a rental chiller within hours to resume medical services and keep the building’s occupants comfortable. Later on, the team replaced the failed chillers with high-efficiency water-cooled Trane chillers.

“Luckily, we had two brand-new machines, which were in stock in our factory,” Dowd said. “So the owner executed a contract and 30 days later, the old machines were out of the building, the new machines were operating and the temporary rental chiller was removed.”

The Boland team went even further than just replacing the failed chillers; it also upgraded the facility’s building automation system, implementing new controls and technology that allow for optimized heating, cooling, lighting schedules and sequencing. It also upgraded the lighting system by replacing 660 T8 fixtures with LED fixtures throughout the building and the garage.

“Now we have a connected building, where we’re monitoring the energy usage and utility usage in real time, with 24/7/365 monitoring,” said Mechelle Munn, an energy performance engineer at Boland. “We’re watching that building every minute of every day to ensure it is operating optimally.”

Munn and her colleagues on Boland’s Applied Building Insights team work to provide clients with data-backed insights for continuous building energy and sustainability improvements.

As a result of these upgrades, the client not only has a reliable HVAC system that fosters a safe, comfortable and healthy indoor environment, it saw a 34% reduction in electric consumption, which led to $168K in electricity bill savings. As for the cost to the client, Dowd said the lighting system paid for itself within 10 months, while the building automation system paid for itself in just six months.

To ensure that things continue to run smoothly, Dowd said, the Boland team is not content with simply monitoring the building automation system and waiting for a problem to present itself. Instead, it meets with the client on an annual basis to discuss the client’s long-term plans for the asset and develop strategies to keep the building and its equipment operational and efficient for years to come.

A craftsman was found guilty of murdering his ex’s new partner by knocking him unconscious and burning him alive in his car.

Mark Chilman, 52, faces life imprisonment after being convicted of the murder of 66-year-old former CEO Neil Parkinson.

He hit Parkinson with an unknown gun before knocking him out in his 4×4 car and setting it on fire to cover up his crime as suicide.

Parkinson’s body was discovered in a burning BMW X5 at a Worcestershire rest area on December 12th last year.

The jury was told how Chilman attacked Parkinson after finding out he was in a relationship with his ex-partner Juliet Adcock.

The couple had split in June last year, but Chilman remained “obsessed” with Adcock.

The court heard Chilman use a tracker on her car to follow her and steal her underwear after she broke into her home.

Chilman was on trial in Worcester Crown Court for murder and found guilty Thursday.

The defendant bowed his head and closed his eyes when he learned of his fate.

He is expected to face life imprisonment if sentenced next week.

The court was told how Chilman lay in wait before attacking his victim and hitting him on the back of the head with a heavy object such as a hammer.

Parkinson had been on his way home to take care of his elderly mother after spending the evening with Adcock.

Chilman drove his unconscious corpse to a rest stop and set it on fire in the driver’s seat of his car with around 40 liters of gasoline from two stolen canisters.

The jury was told how he intentionally centered the fire around his body and staged it as if he had committed suicide.

An autopsy revealed that Parkinson’s had a fractured skull and was still alive when he was put in the driver’s seat of the car before it was set on fire.

Chilman later sent Adcock a “suicide text” pretending to be from Parkinson’s in which he wrote, “I lead a double life. I use and abuse woman [sic]. “

But Adcock said she knew the message was not written by her partner because of the “appalling” spelling and grammar.

He also sent other fake text messages pretending to be Parkinson’s disease claiming he had sexual relations with three other women.

The court was told that Chilman was still obsessed with Adcock and bought the same perfume as she sprayed on clothes he stole from her.

When they were together, Chilman wrote love messages in her lipstick on her bedroom and bathroom mirror that said, “I love you forever.”

He also left a noose to “hang up” and put a sledgehammer on the farm and a tracking device on her car because he suspected she was “having an affair”.
