When the San Francisco 49ers signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a five-year, $137.5 million contract extension in February 2018, the organization seemed set at the most important position in sports for years to come. But after watching Tom Brady’s former backup struggle to stay healthy, the franchise made the bold decision to trade up to the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to secure the uber-talented but incredibly raw Trey Lance.

Naturally, the move led to immediate speculation about Garoppolo’s future with the 49ers. And while he maintained his spot atop the depth chart for one season, it’s clear the 30-year-old signal-caller will throw his next pass for another team.

In fact, the 49ers have opened the door for their longtime starters to secure $25 million elsewhere.

The 49ers seemed primed to make a transition at quarterback

*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden}html,body{height:100%}img,span{position:absolute;width:100%;top:0;bottom:0;margin:auto}span{ height:1.5em;text-align:center;font:48px/1.5 sans-serif;color:white;text-shadow:0 0 0.5em black}

<img src=https://img.youtube.com/vi/_3CBPkXYGeo/hqdefault.jpg alt=">” src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/_3CBPkXYGeo?feature=oembed” frame border=”0″ allow=”accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture in picture” allowfullscreen>

This week represented a monumental moment for the 49ers as a franchise. After all, it’s rare for a team to give one of its most popular players the chance to find a new NFL home.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the organization granted Garoppolo’s agents permission to seek a trade. San Francisco’s starter since 2017, Garoppolo has spent most of the offseason rehabbing from shoulder surgery. With just one year left on the pricey extension he inked during the 2018 offseason, the veteran quarterback needs to play well to prove he deserves another multi-year deal.

While the 49ers can trade Garoppolo to any team of their choosing, putting the ball in his agents’ court suggests they’re willing to do what’s best for him. However, it remains to be seen whether potential suitors will find the ninth-year pro’s contract palatable.

Jimmy Garoppolo has an opportunity to secure $25 million from another NFL team

Jimmy Garoppolo currently has one year left on his deal.

Any team acquiring him would owe him $24.2M in base salary and up to $800K in per-game roster bonuses ($25M max) as things presently stood. https://t.co/yO7CV1PUV1

— Field Yates (@FieldYates) July 20, 2022

Set to count nearly $27 million against the salary cap, Garoppolo will certainly force other franchises to consider the financial implications of a trade. Between his $24.2 million salary and $800,000 in per-game roster bonuses, he has a chance to earn just north of $25 million in 2022.

Of course, given Garoppolo’s injury history (he’s played a total of 63 games since 2014), it would be a mild surprise if he remained healthy and appeared in every game. However, with no semblance of financial or job security, he should have no shortage of motivation heading into his ninth year in the league.

Still, it isn’t easy to gauge the market for a quarterback who comes with several red flags. Not only does Garoppolo have a lengthy injury history, but he’s also unlikely to be back to 100% until the middle of August.

Plus, will a team want to surrender draft capital and significant cap space to acquire a passer who hasn’t exactly performed at a high level in the playoffs? With a 74.1 rating and six interceptions in six postseason starts, it’s not as if Garoppolo has impressed when it’s mattered most.

Where are the best landing spots for Jimmy G?

Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers warms up before the game against the Green Bay Packers in NFC Divisional Playoff game at Lambeau Field on January 22, 2022 | Stacy Revere/Getty Images

Ultimately, some NFL team will employ the veteran quarterback this season. Assuming the 49ers don’t release Garoppolo, there are several potential trade partners who could look to secure his services.

So, what are the most logical fits?

First, don’t count out the Cleveland Browns. Despite trading a considerable haul for Deshaun Watson and handing him the largest contract in NFL history earlier this offseason, the AFC North franchise remains in limbo at the most important position in sports. With the ex-Houston Texan facing the possibility of a lengthy suspension over alleged inappropriate sexual conduct, the Browns may have to play a large chunk of the season without him.

Could Garoppolo be viewed as the best fallback option? Despite his shortcomings and durability concerns, he boasts more upside than Watson’s current backup, Jacoby Brissett. In addition, the Browns have almost $50 million in cap space, which gives them plenty of wriggle room to take on Garoppolo’s $24.2 million salary.

Sticking in the AFC, Houston has to be considered a top landing spot, too. Sure, the Texans are in the middle of a rebuild. But don’t forget general manager Nick Caserio was the Patriots’ director of player personnel when New England selected Garoppolo in the second round of the 2014 draft. Acquiring the veteran and pitting him against promising second-year per Davis Mills wouldn’t be the worst move for a franchise that will have incredible spending power next offseason.

The only hangup?

According to Adam Coleman of The Athletic, Houston only has about $9 million in cap space at the moment. So, if Jimmy Garoppolo wants to take his talents to the Texans, he may have to sacrifice some of his $24.2 million salary to make that happen.

A city with so many hills struggled with its long-term vision. Every view has the power to narrow or broaden our view of the city. It all depends on your point of view.

If you saw the city behind the windshield of a car in 1948, the vision of the future was a vision of elevated highways and fast arrival. At that time, the aptly named “Comprehensive Trafficways Plan” proposed adding a tangle of freeways to San Francisco. Highways proponents saw the ever-increasing presence of the “cement octopus” as inevitable, a concrete solution that would get motorists to their destination with the ease and immediacy that modern life demands. These enthusiasts believed that their desire to arrive now would benefit the communities below the freeway by diverting traffic (i.e., themselves) away from the surrounding streets.

However, in the 1960s and again in the 1990s, proponents of the “now” stopped. The Gum Tree Girls, whose fight to protect Glen Canyon went so far that they threatened to handcuff their children to the trees that stood in the way of the proposed highway, were some of the first to successfully argue that the future of “Right here” is more important than the urgency of “now”.

Much has been said about the Freeway Revolts, but the line between this series of events, which spanned 50 years from 1948 to 1998, is the struggle of ordinary people against the urgency of the present for the quality of life of the future.

Glen Canyon or the Panhandle, which is criss-crossed by highways, can hardly be imagined as the heirs of the future for which these insurgents fought, but this reality was only averted by a series of wafer-thin 6-5 votes on the board of directors. Modern politics is uniquely prone to the charm of the “present” as power rests on yesterday’s issues and alliances and long-term plans rarely fit into electoral cycles. Still, one can easily wonder how nearly half of the city’s overseers could ever be in favor of replacing the Panhandle with a freeway or rebuilding the Embarcadero Freeway that separated the city from its waterfront. Still, it took a coalition of 77 organizations, 20,000 letters, and numerous editorials to convince our leaders that the San Francisco we are enjoying today was worth saving this beautiful green space at the end of Golden Gate Park.

Now a new attempt is underway to separate the San Franciscans from their parks and the waterfront. The siren chant of “right now” calls upon those looking to take a few minutes off the commute, sincere in their desire to please their loudest voters and the dangers of prioritizing today’s convenience.

But when the perspective of the city is above a stroller, behind a handlebar or at a café table in a former parking space, the vision for the future of the city is already emerging. COVID has resulted in the biggest street changes in San Francisco in decades as slow streets, shared spaces, and new pedestrian promenades along JFK Drive and the Great Highway have all shown what tomorrow’s streets might look like.

These new public spaces have found their own proponents as neighbors – artists, teachers, parents and small business owners – are discovering the many opportunities our streets offer when cars become visitors and people become guests of honor. In the same spirit as the insurgents of our past, San Franciscans are now forming coalitions, creating art, writing songs, signing petitions, holding rallies, and advocating civil disobedience. They have not yet threatened to tie their children to trees, but if our leaders continue to bow to the pressures of the present, there is no doubt they will.

We are no longer threatened by a sky blocked by concrete roads, but by a sky that is increasingly filled with smoke, smog and weather that intensifies with each season. If we want the next generation of San Franciscans to inherit a healthy planet, not to mention the same parks, burritos, and beautiful October days we enjoy, we need to reduce our emissions to zero before today’s babies celebrate their 30th birthday . Given the task at hand, the effort may be negligible within 49 square miles, but those 49 square miles have an oversized impact. If we create a sustainable urban future here, we can change how others see their cities.

The Embarcadero Freeway, February 1959.

Ken McLaughlin / Hearst Bay Area

Despite our commitment to sustainability and our lip service to being a city that comes first, it is clear that the perspectives of our executives are still largely shaped by the rear wheel.

These leaders often speak of the need for compromise, but when it comes to our roads there are no more compromises that will not endanger future generations. Our only way forward is to create a future in which human mobility is put above car mobility – not just for sustainability reasons, but also for our commercial corridors, our children and our social fabric.

The scale of climate change requires a “spaghetti-on-the-wall” approach to finding solutions, and our streets are the best spaghetti bowl we have. Not only is our road network a network that can easily accommodate the multitude of iterative changes required to create a truly liveable city, but the exhausts of cars and trucks are our greatest source of emissions. It’s a truth no politician wants to acknowledge in the face of mounting pain, but the future of San Francisco is one where it will be harder to drive – yet easier, safer, and more enjoyable to do almost everything else.

I became a father during the pandemic, so my perspective has changed too. Suddenly the future is not in the distance, but sleeps in my arms. That transition got me behind the wheel of a car more than ever, which made it clear how exaggerated the recent traffic collapse stories are. My driving experience has been remarkably average, but the city can often feel treacherous behind a stroller.

The Gum Tree Girls fought to save Glen Canyon from this reality. My daughter will inherit what we fight for.

If history is our guide, we shouldn’t turn to politicians to show the way. They’re usually a lagging indicator of a city determined to protect the wonder that is right here from the insatiability of the “now”. However, the revolt against “now” is already underway, and it is evident that every San Franciscan is giving up something of today in order to create a better tomorrow.

The antidote to urgency is to move slowly. Maybe that’s why some of our Slow Streets have an incredible 90% approval rating. That is why the many mantras of Slow are repeated over and over again. Keep it slow. Go slow yo Slow is forever. The urgency of “now” means that taking slow action is an act of resistance.

We can’t all be heroes of this revolt – who has the time? But every little act counts. Filling out the JFK Drive Future Poll for five minutes counts (only one minute if you use this voter guide). Even the 12 seconds it takes to double-click a pre-filled email counts. Because the rulers often only count the insurgents before they decide on which side.

Rest assured, however, our heroes will show up. The revolt against “now” seeks more Scott Newhalls, the editor of the San Francisco Chronicle, who gave the paper a decidedly anti-freeway stance. They will find it, maybe because it’s good for business or simply because they love to cycle the Great Walkway. The revolt is currently looking for more Sue Biermans, the outspoken superior who convinced her colleagues to save the panhandle. It will find them, perhaps as soon as a manager decides to put tomorrow’s quietest voters – their children – over today’s loudest voters.

If you look at the city from a historical perspective, one day you could sit on a bench in Sue Bierman Park and stare at the Ferry Building from what was once a freeway exit. The view makes it easy to see that while the monuments of speed are temporary, the monuments of slowness are forever.

SAN FRANCISCO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Sept. November 2021–

ForgeRock ® (NYSE: FORG), a global leader in digital identity, today announced new features for the ForgeRock Identity Cloud designed to help organizations overcome the barriers posed by passwords when moving to the cloud with pass-through authentication and authentication Overcoming just-in-time migration.

These new features come at a time when many companies are at a crossroads on their digital transformation journey. Teams need to evaluate the best approach to authentication that will maximize security while ensuring a seamless user experience. For many companies, managing sensitive passwords locally while moving other operations to the cloud is a major challenge.

“Our customers tell us that they want to say goodbye to passwords and become passwordless. But moving to the cloud often means adding more passwords or forcing password resets, which is a bad experience for users, ”said Peter Barker, chief product officer at ForgeRock. “With our new pass-through authentication and just-in-time migration capabilities, ForgeRock Identity Cloud enables companies to move to the cloud without having to manage even more passwords and inconvenience to customers that can undermine brand loyalty. “

This is what the new functions offer:

Pass-Through Authentication (PTA): Adding more passwords in the cloud is cumbersome and expensive. To avoid this, PTA enables customers who are ready to move to the cloud and want to keep their passwords locally to use existing user IDs and passwords by authenticating against any identity store including Active Directory, LDAP, SQL or even flat files. This innovative approach also simplifies implementation and reduces the associated IT costs.

Just-in-time migration: When customers are asked to reset their passwords, cloud migration projects are often blocked because companies fear customers will be leaving their service. ForgeRock’s new just-in-time migration feature removes this hurdle by enabling companies to migrate to the ForgeRock Identity Cloud without forcing their customers to change their passwords. Organizations can also gradually migrate users by department, location, or other factors to enable a step-by-step approach to the cloud, reducing unnecessary risk during the migration. This incremental approach also offers the flexibility to store the passwords locally for companies with stricter regulatory or other compliance requirements.

ForgeRock Identity Cloud is the only SaaS-based identity platform specifically designed for businesses. Its unique IAM capabilities include patented data isolation technology that separates any company’s identity data to provide superior cloud security. ForgeRock Identity Cloud also doesn’t offer surprising pricing to provide simple and flexible subscriptions with predictable pricing that avoid overage fees.

These new features are available immediately to ForgeRock Identity Cloud customers. For more information, please visit www.ForgeRock.com.

Note: GJEL Accident Attorneys regularly sponsors coverage on Streetsblog San Francisco and Streetsblog California. Unless otherwise stated in the story, GJEL Accident Attorneys will not be consulted for the content or editorial direction of the sponsored content.

The controversial debate over the future of Muni has reached its climax and culminated in a special hearing on the restoration of Muni service last Friday. Supervisors Preston and Chan wanted to know why full service hours could not be restored immediately prior to the pandemic, implying that a secret decision had already been made to abandon large numbers of Muni lines. For his part, Director Tumlin merely reiterated his assertion that neither the money nor the staff would be available to restore service faster than the agency had planned.

It is understandable that Director Tumlin would be cautious about restoring service times too quickly. SFMTA’s financial health was in dire straits even before the pandemic and is now at a crisis point, with a slow downtown recovery continuing to lead to financial uncertainty and the need to reinstate a workforce decimated by the pandemic. However, it is also unacceptable for drivers to have to wait until the end of 2022 for Muni to return to its pre-pandemic service levels.

Fortunately, there is a strategy to improve service beyond the zero-sum game of deciding where to allocate a limited number of service hours without waiting for SFMTA to be fully staffed and funded. A strategy on which neither Director Tumlin nor his superiors focused enough.

Although the number of service hours (i.e. the time our bus operators spend behind the wheel) may be limited, we can achieve more service miles (i.e. the distance our buses travel) by only using transit lanes and other priority transit methods to keep bus traffic in speeding up the whole city. In addition to shortening travel times, a faster bus journey also enables more bus journeys every day with the same number of operating hours.

At the start of the pandemic, a large number of temporary emergency lanes were planned for key transit corridors across the city, but implementation has stalled as the network is far from complete. Planned transit lanes on Divisadero with a possible 30% travel time savings have been removed because the curb lanes are too narrow – and yet somehow wide enough for the 24 Divisadero to continue to use – and transit lanes on Freemasons with potential 25% travel time savings have been opened postponed indefinitely. Both projects have instead been replaced by an undemanding program of left-turn restrictions.

Proposed transit lanes on Fulton, Lincoln, Mission, Ocean / Geneva and Potrero / Bayshore also languish in the planning of purgatory. Other treatments for transit priorities, such as temporary bus failures and queue crossings, have been implemented very sparingly and should be rolled out across the city. There is no reason why a frequent muni-service street should not have the most aggressive initial treatments for transit.

Such improvements would also complement SFMTA’s proposal to prioritize service on higher-frequency lines rather than lower-frequency parallel lines, one of the options being considered as part of a study to redesign the Muni network for a world after Pandemic should be considered. The higher frequency Muni lines either already have solid transit initial treatments or have the frequency that justifies their implementation. By moving service hours to these roads, we can provide many more service miles than if they were used on lower frequency lines that do not have robust measures to prioritize transit and cannot support them.

Priority treatments in transit are essentially free from a financial perspective, but can be a political challenge due to the need to remove parking lots or general lanes to make room for transit. An unwritten rule in San Francisco politics is the prerogative of superiors; If the supervisor doesn’t support a project for a particular district, it likely won’t happen, even if that project officially falls under the purview of a citywide agency like SFMTA.

So while Director Tumlin should be criticized for not pushing the initial transit treatments as far as possible, managers are also responsible for not advocating car-free transportation in their districts. Divisadero falls into Supervisor Preston’s district, and Freemasons span Preston’s district and Chan’s district. In particular, both overseers remained silent about the failure of the SFMTA to implement the proposed transit lanes in these corridors; they should get in touch.

We’ve heard enough excuses from Headmaster Tumlin that there is nothing he can do to improve transit traffic without increased income, and enough tipping from superiors Preston and Chan while they don’t advocate the first thoroughfares in their own districts. Transit routes and priority actions will accomplish much of the service improvements Preston and Chan call for, while fulfilling Tumlin’s desire for tax responsibility. Instead of continuing a meaningless cycle of conflict, our supervisors and administrators must work together to redesign our streets for the benefit of our Muni system.
