The longest flight between India and the US is set to resume next month. According to a recent report, Air India plans to restart direct flights between Bengaluru in South India and San Francisco in about a month. The service was suspended, citing poor demand due to COVID, but the airline is reportedly bringing it back. The route will, of course, be flown by the 777-200LR.

  Back on the map

Air India’s longest nonstop flight is set to resume soon. According to a report by ET Now, the carrier will start a twice-weekly nonstop service between Bengaluru (BLR) and San Francisco (SFO) from October end for its winter schedule.

SIMPLE FLYING VIDEO OF THE DAY

The service was inaugurated during the COVID pandemic on January 10th, 2021. Flight AI 176 took off from San Francisco with four women pilots, 12 cabin crew members, and 238 passengers. It covered a distance of almost 14,000 km on the Atlantic route that had it fly over the North Pole.

Air India plans to resume BLR-SFO service from October end. Photo: Gcmap.com

Being an IT hub, Bengaluru is also on the list of US carriers, as many US West Coast-bound passengers originate from the city. However, nothing has materialized so far.

  Suspended in March

Air India’s BLR-SFO service last flew in March, and people in the know cited poor demand for suspending the flight. The Times of India quoted an airline official at Bengaluru airport as saying,

“AI 175 took off from Bengaluru on Saturdays and Tuesdays while AI 176 from SF landed here on Mondays and Thursdays. But the COVID crisis and landing permit issues for the airline in the US saw the disruption of the longest direct flight from South India to the US. Though operations resumed as the COVID situation eased, the flight didn’t have enough passengers.”

However, the ToI reports to an Air India officer saying that the flight was not suspended due to poor patronage but because of the carrier’s Boeing 777s undergoing an overhaul. The source added,

“The flights are getting ready for restart of the longest operation to the US in a big manner, which will be announced soon.”

Air India’s monopoly on the route

With the COVID situation improving, demand for more India-US flights is on the rise. Many people have taken to social media demanding better connectivity between Bengaluru and the US.

Air India also finds itself in an advantageous position to monopolize the route due to the current geopolitical developments. Both United Airlines and American Airlines are keen on establishing direct flights from Bengaluru to the US West Coast, but COVID and then the Russia-Ukraine conflict spoiled those plans.

Earlier this year, American Airlines once again halted plans for its long-delayed flight from Bangalore (BLR) to Seattle (SEA), which was initially set to debut in 2020. Many western airlines, including the ones in the US, are not overflying the Russian airspace, which is vital for an ultra-long-haul flight originating from Bengaluru.

Air India continues to fly over Russia and is, therefore, the only carrier as of now to be able to connect BLR with the US. The airline, in fact, is planning a significant expansion into the North American market by leasing five more Boeing 777-200LRs for these long flights.

Have you traveled on one of Air India’s previous BLR-SFO flights? What was your experience like? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

May 10, 2021

Improvements made during the pandemic include maintenance upgrades for smoother journeys and improvements like WiFi in tunnels

San Francisco, CA. – Mayor of London N. Breed and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) today announced the full Muni service plan and upgrades to the Muni Metro. All Muni metro stations will reopen and the historic F-Line tram will be back in service on Saturday 15th May. To further maximize access to Muni across the city, a new bus route is being added to the service plan to serve the neighborhoods of the subway west side of San Francisco. The introduction of additional services coincides with the reopening of businesses and activities across the city. Muni service is an important part of San Francisco’s economic recovery.

“To move San Francisco forward, we have to do everything we can to get Muni back to full functionality,” said Mayor Breed. “As we reopen more shops and activities, it is important that our transit service can accommodate more passengers and help people get around our city. This weekend, the Muni metro service, the F-line and more complete Track back and Muni comes back even stronger with new improvements like Wi-Fi in the subway tunnels. “

In addition to reopening the subway stations and the F Line, the N Judah subway will resume its full route between Ocean Beach and 4th and King Streets (Caltrain) on May 15, extending the T Third westward portal and then continue as K Ingleside to Balboa Park Station. With the return of rail travel to these routes, customers will have faster transit times in the downtown area as well as other popular destinations such as Castro, City College, Ocean Beach, Golden Gate Park, Oracle Park, Chase Center, UCSF Parnassus, and UCSF Mission Bay and Caltrain.

Muni trains will travel through a much more reliable subway system. Muni employees used this rare, extended metro shutdown as an opportunity to expedite other upgrades and necessary maintenance. During normal operations, subway maintenance teams can only work for a few hours a day when trains are not running.

Important improvements for Muni Metro drivers are:

Wi-Fi availability thanks to routers installed in stations and cellular antennas installed in the tunnels.

Installation of new signposts and signposts at Castro and Church stations.

Faster and smoother journeys through improvements to the overhead line and rail loops.

Art in public space at the entrance and exit of the Castro and West Portal stations.

After working closely with dealers from Castro, Mid-Market, and Fisherman’s Wharf, the entire F Market & Wharves route from Fisherman’s Wharf to Market and Castro will once again be used in San Francisco’s popular historic trams. This return to service will help support the reopening and return of tourism to the city.

In response to customer feedback for improved service connecting hospitals, grocery stores and vaccination centers in hilly areas, the SFMTA is also introducing a temporary new combined route – the 36/52 special. This bus route will serve the hill districts of Forest Hill, Miraloma and Sunnyside on a loop between Forest Hill Station and Glen Park Station. Currently, 91% of Franciscans are within two to three blocks of a Muni stop, including 100% of residents in San Francisco’s neighborhoods listed in the Muni Service Equity Strategy.

“Without public transportation, there is no economic recovery,” said Jeffrey Tumlin, SFMTA transportation director. “Our people are committed to keeping San Francisco moving and working tirelessly to bring Muni service back better than ever.”

May 15, 2021 Muni Service changes

The service times for each route are given below. The opening times of the owl network are from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily. For more information on frequency and opening times, see the COVID-19 Muni Core Service Plan.

F Market & Quays

The historic tram will return to service between 17th and Castro Streets and Jones and Beach Streets.

From Castro: approx. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (first ride from Castro train station at 10:50 a.m.)

From Fisherman’s Wharf: approximately 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Use the L-Bus or L-Owl for local service along Market Street during the hours when the F is not on.

K Ingleside / T third

The K Ingleside and T Third will mesh as KT Ingleside-Third and expand the service between Balboa Park and Sunnydale. This route uses the newly opened Muni U-Bahn station, which serves all stations between West Portal and Embarcadero.

Weekdays: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Weekends: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Between the hours of the owl service (10 p.m. to 5 a.m.) and the rail traffic, the Muni Metro buses run on weekdays from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

N Judah

Rail traffic will resume for the entire route, with two-car trains replacing the underground buses. Drivers have more space and fewer overtaking maneuvers as the two-car train increases the capacity of the N Judah.

Weekends: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

K bus, L bus and L owl

These lines will no longer serve Forest Hill Station directly. For more information, see the K Bus, L Bus and L Owl route pages.

36/52 special *

Temporary new combined route between Forest Hill Station and Glen Park Station for the parishes of Glen Park, Sunnyside and Miraloma. The route will serve the Laguna Honda Hospital.

The inbound route (clockwise) includes an additional loop on Clarendon.

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) – San Francisco was the first city and county in the Bay Area to pass the Yellow Tier Policy Thursday morning. Bars and other businesses finally got the chance to serve customers indoors.

The state announced its updated animal assignments on the California Blueprint for a Safer Economy website just before noon late Tuesday morning. San Francisco officials said they plan to “expand almost all activity to 50% indoor capacity” unless California imposes more restrictive capacity limits.

CONTINUE READING: Farms and ranches in southern Santa Clara County are struggling with worsening drought

The San Francisco Department of Health plans to issue its final health and safety guidelines to reopen activities that are allowed under the yellow tier of the state’s safer economy on Thursday. The relaxed restrictions took effect from 8 a.m.

But of all the things that open up again inside under the yellow step, the bars seem to be in the foreground.

They were closed from the start. Some have even disappeared for good.

From Thursday, bars with a capacity of 25 percent can be opened indoors.

San Francisco supervisor Matt Haney recognized the hard work of the San Francisco residents and their willingness to adhere to safety protocols.

“So this is a huge landmark and it reflects a lot of sacrifice,” Haney said.

When asked if he was concerned that San Francisco might return to another lockdown, Haney expressed confidence.

“I think that’s safe, you know? We are still cautious; You know, masks inside, even at bars, you have to sit at tables and no crowds inside, ”Haney explained. “But we see that with the reopening, cases are still falling. And a big part of that is the vaccinations. In San Francisco, over 50% of our population aged 16 and over is fully vaccinated. “

Locals turned up at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Church of 8 Wheels, a popular roller-skating rink in San Francisco’s Lower Haight neighborhood, excited about the Yellow Tier’s reopening.

Leyla Norooz caught the early morning wind and laced herself indoors for the first time in more than a year.

“It’s wonderful! So good. So soft!” She said.

Owner David Miles Jr. weathered the pandemic by adapting.

CONTINUE READING: 5 boats burn, 4 destroyed in the delta near Bethel Island

“We have opened an online skate shop. I started selling ice skates like crazy, ”he said. We are also involved in building runways for other communities. I don’t let the grass grow under my feet. I have to get rolling; I have to spread the religion as widely as possible. “

His son David Miles III was just as enthusiastic about the reopening.

“We have finally reached that day. So we’re finally here! Now we can do this every day. It’s something that has definitely given us high hopes of moving forward, ”he said.

“We are almost normal. We’re getting closer to normal, but we still have a long way to go, “said Miles Jr.” I just hope we can move on. I don’t want another shutdown you know That would be devastating. “

“I’m here with all of my friends. I couldn’t be happier. It’s about being part of a community, ”enthused skater Jake Zimmerman.

In addition to bars, breweries and wineries, which are allowed to reopen indoors with a capacity of 25%, there are further adjustments as part of the yellow level.

Eight guests are now allowed per table in restaurants. Ice skating and roller skating rinks, playgrounds and family recreation centers such as amusement arcades, mini golf, pool halls and bowling alleys can be reopened with a capacity of 50%, as can public libraries.

Saunas, steam baths and indoor whirlpools may be reopened with a capacity of 25%.

Outdoor gatherings can accommodate up to 100 people, and outdoor live spectator venues can be expanded to 67% capacity in accordance with published government guidelines. San Francisco has largely adhered to state guidelines in previous COVID strides.

On Monday, SF health officials announced that San Francisco would follow the state’s new guidelines on masking, reflecting the recently updated CDC recommendations.

Acting San Francisco Health Commissioner Dr. Susan Philip, released a statement Monday after the state decided to generally align with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for masking fully vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

For the purposes of this guide, people are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine two weeks after receiving the second dose in a two-dose series of Pfizer BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after receiving a single dose . Currently, people aged 16 and over can be vaccinated in San Francisco.

MORE NEWS: COVID: Employers in the service industry complain about the lack of people willing to fill vacancies

“The CDC’s announcement that people who are fully vaccinated, and in some cases not vaccinated, will no longer need to wear masks in certain outdoor environments is fantastic news that reflects the science and data we now have on the effectiveness of the Vaccines in preventing the spread and shutdown of the community have fall rates and minimal risk of outdoor transmission, “Phillip said in a statement.

SAN MATEO (BCN / CBS SF) – Starting Thursday, the San Mateo County Event Center in San Mateo County will have weekly COVID-19 mass vaccination clinics for anyone living or working in the county.

The mass vaccination centers will return if the county vaccine supply increases after weeks of restricted supply that prompted district officials to halt the mass vaccination centers in mid-March.

In the future, the district will host two to three mass vaccination centers every week, provided that the supply permits. These are in addition to the community clinics in badly affected areas where vaccination efforts have been concentrated over the past month.

District chief Mike Callagy encouraged people to get the vaccine, saying in a statement that the more vaccines the district can get, the safer the district will be.

“We need to get everyone to see this vaccine as a life-saving measure that will bring us closer to normal,” Callagy said.

The state’s MyTurn.ca.gov website allows people to register for drive-through appointments at the event center.

CONTINUE READING: Drought in California: As communities see water problems, some are re-using gray water

The county will also resume use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in accordance with instructions from the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The county will continue to seek vaccination efforts for the homeless, farm workers and residents in communities with low vaccination rates.

First and second dose clinics continue in neighborhoods and cities such as North Fair Oaks, East Palo Alto, San Mateo, Daly City, El Granada and Half Moon Bay.

As of Monday, San Mateo County’s 445,776 residents have received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. That figure represents 69 percent of the adult population eligible for the vaccine.

For vulnerable communities – those with lower vaccination rates and high exposure to the virus – vaccination rates are 56 percent.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF / AP) – With new cases of COVID-19, San Francisco health officials announced the city would move into the state’s Red Tier, bringing indoor dining to difficult restaurants for the first time in months can be.

At a press conference on Tuesday Mayor London Breed described the reopening as “the start of a great time for San Francisco”.

TO UPDATE: San Francisco Bar, restaurant owner cautiously optimistic about switch to Red Tier

“We’re here, we’re in the red,” said Breed. “Now I know it doesn’t sound that great to be in the red, but it’s great compared to where we’ve been … it means this is just the beginning. This is the beginning of a new day for San Francisco. “

She said the city would move into the even milder Orange Tier within the next three weeks. Breed also promised that San Francisco’s iconic cable cars would be back in service before the end of the year.

With a few exceptions, the San Francisco reopenings are in line with state-approved activities. Napa County and Santa Clara County also announced Tuesday that they would be moving into the Red Tier.

In addition, San Francisco will now allow groups of up to six people from three households to dine al fresco together, and the city lifted the 10 p.m. curfew.

Businesses can start reopening interiors at 8 a.m. Several restaurants, including Waterbar and EPIC Steak in the San Francisco Embarcadero, have already announced that they will be open for indoor dining on Wednesday.

In the Red Tier districts, indoor dining rooms and cinemas may reopen with a capacity of 25% or up to 100 people, whichever is lower. Gyms, dance and yoga studios can be used up to 10%. Museums, zoos and aquariums can open indoor activities with a capacity of 25%.

The last time the city moved into the Red Plain was in autumn. Then came the surge in new cases after Thanksgiving, forcing many reopened businesses to stop operating indoors in December, January and February.

“Almost a year after setting up our shelter, we have seen our worst surge since the beginning of the pandemic thanks to our collective action and commitment to health policy compliance,” said Dr. Grant Colfax, the city’s health director. “We know how to slow the spread and save lives.”

The move to the Red Tier comes because the CDC is asking states not to reopen. The latest health data in San Francisco has allowed the county to move into the less restrictive category, but nationwide the clear downward trend in case rates and COVID deaths has plateaued in recent weeks.

This is causing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to issue a warning so as not to relax the restrictions just yet.

The concern is another increase. Health experts warn states not to relax restrictions too much, as cases could recur due to variants, undoing the gains made.

“San Francisco was the first major city to shut down, and we’ve been extremely conservative in every decision we make,” said Breed.

Scientists say one of the COVID-19 variants, B.1.1.7. is about 50% transferable.

“Nationally, cases have started to rise slightly. So we need to double the preventive measures, ”Colfax admitted. “There are more and more variants in our region.”

Outdoor gatherings can resume after 10:00 PM. For meals indoors, the tables are limited to a household with a maximum of 4 people. When dining al fresco in San Francisco, 6 people from 3 households are allowed in one group.

“Be aware that there will be different restrictions indoors and outdoors,” said Laurie Thomas of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association.

“We have to balance the risk of reopening and the fact that we’ve been in it for a year. I think we are in a place where we can safely conduct some of these activities, ”said Colfax.

Several boroughs in the San Francisco Bay Area passed strict home stay orders almost a year ago ahead of a statewide shutdown. Public health officials have been largely more cautious about reopening the economy than their peers in Southern California and other states.

Operations in San Francisco shut down in early December after several Bay Area counties were pre-emptively lockdowns as the positivity rate spiked and the case rate spiked. Outdoor restaurants, outdoor museums, and some indoor and outdoor personal services reopened in late January after the state canceled its regional stay-at-home order.

The economic burden was high, and apartment and office rents fell as downtown restaurants that once fed many hungry office workers and tourists at lunch struggled.

Much of California’s 58 counties remain in the state’s most restricted Purple Tier tier of a four-tier color-coded system, even though counties of San Francisco, Napa, and Santa Clara moved to the less restrictive Red Tier on Tuesday.

The following activities can be reopened:

Indoor restaurants and food courts
Indoor restaurants in restaurants, bars where meals are served, cafes and cafés, hotels, museums and food courts in shopping centers can be open up to a maximum occupancy of less than 25% or 100 people. San Francisco limits indoor dining tables to members of a household up to four people and requires indoor service to end by 10:00 PM.

Personal indoor and outdoor services
Personal services that require mask removal can be done outdoors and the service provider wears an N95 or other well-fitting mask. Personal services that require the mask to be removed can be performed indoors if the service is at least 10 feet away from others, and preferably in a separate room, and the service provider wears an N95 or other well-fitted mask.

Indoor fitness
Gyms and climbing walls can be reopened indoors with a capacity of up to 10%.
Gentle indoor fitness classes like stretching, yoga, and meditation can be done within the indoor fitness guidelines. Changing rooms and indoor showers will remain closed at this time. Indoor saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs remain closed according to state regulations.

Indoor museums, zoos and aquariums
Indoor museums, zoos, and aquariums can be opened up to 25% capacity with an approved security plan.

Indoor funerals
Funerals can take place indoors with a capacity of up to 25%. Simultaneous indoor and outdoor services may not take place.

Indoor political demonstrations
Political demonstrations can take place indoors up to 25% of the maximum capacity.

schools
Middle schools and high schools that have not yet reopened can resume reopening for personal tuition with a health officer-approved COVID-19 safety plan. Elementary schools can still be open, as was the case.

Standalone outdoor rides
Standalone outdoor rides such as ferris wheels, carousels, and train rides will open. Only one household can be accommodated in each individual room, e.g. B. a Ferris wheel cabin or a railroad car.

Indoor cinemas
Indoor cinemas can be opened with a capacity of less than 25% or 100 people, but with no concessions for food or drinks. When there are multiple auditoriums, each auditorium is limited to less than 25% or 100 people, provided the complex as a whole does not exceed 25% capacity.

Indoor pools
Indoor pools can be up to 25% capacity, but only for basic swimming and anti-drowning courses for children. Outdoor pools remain open for wider use.

The following activities can expand your operational capacity:

Outdoor gatherings
Small outdoor gatherings of up to 12 people from three households can continue. Outdoor dining and drinking gatherings can be expanded to include up to six people from three households.

Outdoor dining
Outdoor dining is expanded from members of two households with up to six people to members of three households with up to six people per table, and there is no requirement that service ends by 10 p.m.

Additionally, for companies that put barriers between tables in place of distancing prior to December 6th, those barriers may remain in place. New barriers to replace the required 6 foot spacing may not be built.

Hotels and other accommodations
Hotels and accommodations can open restaurants and fitness facilities in accordance with the guidelines. Although the travel quarantine has been lifted for travelers outside of the Bay Area in San Francisco, the state’s travel advisory that non-essential travelers from out of state or over 120 miles must be quarantined for 10 days remains in place.

Drive-in venues
Live entertainment with up to six performers can kick off in one trip with up to 100 cars with one household per car. The personal order or collection of concessions can only be done in a designated area in which the customer only measures vehicles and eats or drinks.

Real estate
Real estate demonstrations must be virtual or, if a virtual tour is not possible, by agreement with no limit to the number of people viewing or showing the property. Open days are currently not permitted.

Outdoor youth programs and after-school time programs
Extracurricular programs for school-age children and adolescents such as community hubs, youth sports, and post-school programs can increase the number of outdoor cohorts to 25 children or adolescents. Young people are only allowed to participate in one program at a time.

Higher education and adult education
In-person, college, professional, and adult education courses can be held outdoors for up to 25 students. If special equipment is required, classes can be held indoors at 25% capacity or for an essential core service with no capacity limit as long as a physical distance of 6 feet can be maintained. No indoor lectures are allowed.

Outdoor recreation
Double tennis and double pickleball can resume with members of up to four households. Up to 12 people from three households are allowed to practice low, medium or high contact sports outdoors. If you are part of a supervised youth or adult league or club, moderate and high-contact outdoor sports such as softball, field hockey and gymnastics, as well as soccer, basketball and soccer, may be resumed for stable groups of up to 25 people per team DPH safety precautions.

Competitions may only take place in the county or with teams from neighboring counties (Marin, San Mateo and Alameda) at an equal or less restrictive level. In accordance with state guidelines, travel for tournaments outside of the state may not take place.
