Charles William Dunn Sr., 79 years old, of Livermore, died on March 14, 2021 with his family at home.
Charles was born on April 5, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio. Depending on how he was known, he was called Chuck (by the family) and Charlie (in his business). His parents, Charles Edwin Dunn and Loretta Jane (Weikart), preceded him in death. He leaves behind his 53-year-old wife Jennie Lynn (Bronston); and children, Laureen Ray, Gwen Toschi (Patrick), Charles W. Dunn II (Crissy) and Chance Dunn.
He was the grandfather of Jeff, Melissa, Victoria, Gina, Roy, Amber, Nichole, Ryan, Zachary, Chase, and Cole; and great grandfather of Daniella, Madison, Madilyn, Hyden, Mattis, Slone and Emma. He was a sibling of Catherine Pecoraro (Ohio); and a brother, Robert Dunn, California, who died suddenly six days after Chuck’s death. Chuck also leaves several nieces and nephews behind.
The support of his family was of the utmost importance to him – he often worked in two jobs at the same time. After several minor jobs in school, he worked as a nurse at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland before moving to 82nd. Upon his return from the Army, Chuck began working for the family business DC Bowling and Billiard Supply in Cleveland, where he also worked as a driver and train driver Cleveland Transit System.
In 1970, after riding his Harley through the United States, he began his 32-year career with AC Transit in the Bay Area, California. Following his entrepreneurial spirit, he founded his own family business for chimney sweeps in 1983 – he reluctantly retired in 2016.
He traveled extensively in the US and Europe through his job – making lifelong friendships and adding flair to everyone he met and was known as “Charlie”. His home has always been a retreat for those who wanted to experience beautiful California. Known for his late night discussions and strong currents, if you sat with him long enough you would learn so much about life. He is missed by many!
In his signature phrase, we say, “Farewell until we see you again, Shaka, Charlie.” Instead of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hope Hospice – 6377 Clark Ave., Suite 100, Dublin, CA 94568.
