Elvis Moreland Obituary – Campbell, CA (1922-2014)

Elvis “Doc” A. Moreland November 30, 1922 to July 20, 2014 Resident of Sonora Elvis A. Moreland, better known as “Doc” by his friends and family, began his life on a small farm near Asher, Oklahoma where he learned to fish, hunt, grow food and care for farm animals earning his nickname curing a broken chicken’s wing. He grew up creating and building things with a minimum of tools and materials. He left home at 17, moved to California working in shipyards as a steamfitter before joining the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and served our country as a specialist Plumber and was honorably discharged on March 9, 1946.
Doc returned to San Jacinto, CA where he met and married the love of his life, Eva Neel, in 1946. They moved to Campbell, CA and completed their first family home in 1952, built two cabins and their retirement home in Cold Springs, CA between 1961 and 1991, then moved to Sonora in 2006.
Doc leveraged his shipyard and military training to begin his plumbing career and worked with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #393 in San Jose, then passed his contractor’s license test in 1968, incorporating Moreland & Moreland Plumbing and Heating in 1970. The family business prospered over the next 20 years. Doc and Eva loved to travel, fish and camp in the outdoors. Doc achieved a utility patent for a Tide Operated Energy System, AKA T.O.E.S. and was designing a working plan for this system when he died from a heart attack in Sonora, CA on July 20th, 2014.
Doc and Eva’s family includes two children, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many friends and extended family members. Doc, Dad, Grandpa, Elvis, Little Brother – he was known by many names and wore many hats, but he was always loved and respected. We will miss your stories, boundless strength and love, keeping our memories of you and your gifts to each of us close in our hearts and minds forever.
A viewing will be held Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Darling Fischer Campbell Memorial Chapel, 231 E. Campbell Avenue, Campbell, CA. A viewing will take place Monday, July 28, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Darling Fischer Campbell Memorial Chapel. A graveside to follow at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
